Nakhon Ratchasima Trophy Preview
An absolutely flat sprinter's classic awaits us in Thailand. This is the second running of this race. Defending champion Nacer Bouhanni is absent as Euskaltel have decided to give this race a miss. The race could become interesting if there are cross-winds. Otherwise, there is no looking past a bunch sprint at the finish.
| Name | FLA | SPR | ACC | | Mohs | 75 | 83 | 82 | | Kennaugh | 77 | 82 | 81 | | Lo Cicero | 72 | 84 | 78 | | Maksimov | 72 | 81 | 84 | | Thorsen | 61 | 82 | 85 | | Holloway | 78 | 80 | 82 | | Nelson | 72 | 81 | 81 | | Itami | 75 | 80 | 82 | | Guerao | 74 | 83 | 76 | | Goss | 74 | 82 | 78 | | Guillén | 67 | 81 | 82 | | Vantomme | 73 | 82 | 78 | | Kupfernagel | 74 | 80 | 80 | | Rowe | 78 | 79 | 80 | | Lay | 73 | 79 | 81 | | Van Asbroeck | 75 | 80 | 78 | | Scully | 74 | 79 | 80 | | Drapac | 71 | 80 | 79 | | Castañeda | 71 | 80 | 79 | | Lavoine | 73 | 80 | 78 |
Erik Mohs will probably start as top favourite for the win in this race. He has an incredible lead-out in the form of Lavoine and Stepniak, who on their own capacity, could be team leaders in this race! Last year's runners-up and third placed riders, Lo Cicero and Itami are both present and should be among those competing for the win.
Kennaugh and Maksimov are likely to be strong contenders. They have excellent acceleration stats to back up their sprinting.
Guerao has started the season well and it won't surprise a lot of people to see him challenging in this race. He lacks a little in acceleration and together with Goss, who has a similar skill-set, might end up ruing their lower acceleration at the crunch.
Thorsen and Guillen are the favourites who will be hoping for a easier race. If it gets technical, or if wind speeds pick up, they might struggle.
A special mention to World Cycling Center, who despite being a CT team, have two contenders, Lay and Castaneda. Their 1-2 punch is capable of spoiling the race for the PCT teams. They'll be hoping to pick up the bigger points available here than in C2 races.
The other riders who can challenge for the win are mentioned in the table above.
| Name | FLA | SPR | ACC | | Matthews | 75 | 79 | 79 | | Stepniak | 72 | 79 | 79 | | Chen | 74 | 79 | 78 | | Vingerling | 71 | 79 | 79 | | Peeters | 72 | 79 | 77 | | Docker | 72 | 79 | 77 | | Soupe | 72 | 79 | 77 | | Mezgec | 71 | 79 | 77 | | Colbrelli | 74 | 79 | 75 | | Santos | 71 | 79 | 75 |
In other races, these riders might themselves be categorized among the favourites. But the sheer number of high quality sprinters riding in this race have pushed these guys down the pecking order. Most of these riders will have the responsibility of their sprint leaders with a notable exception of the Balkan Cycling guys, Vingerling and Mezgec, who will be riding for themselves and each other.

Packed field! So strong we didn't even get a mention in the preview.
A lot will come down to daily form for us, especially just seeing whether or not we make a train, which I'm still surprised about happening every time it does.
As for the result, definitely the invincible Thorsen's race to lose!
Thanks for the great preview Abhishek!

Let's see if Goss can lay off the beers and achieve a decent result here. Guerao's been riding well and for whatever reason I think he'll take it.
Thanks for the preview!

Maksimov has had a pretty good season so far (for his standards). Got to hope he can keep it going here.

Wow, a very strong startlist. Top 10 is our hope for Luke Rowe. Just need to find a decent wheel to follow and hope for the best.

Never had much luck in sprinter classics, but with Mohs on board our chances have improved. Glad I didn't take Guardini here, as I have better faith in PCM without him. Strong field, but the goal is to either win or get a podium. Let's do this
Good luck to all

Too flat for Van Asbroeck, so I hope the winds toughen the race up a bit. Top 10 would be nice enough.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Another race for Holloway. He hasn't been performing as well as hoped so far this season, let's hope this race is the turning point. Trusov, Kuznetsov and Vermote should make for a good lead-out here.

WCC's sprint roster has mostly flattered to deceive thus far in CT level races, so not sure what to expect here. If at least one of JAC or Lay gets involved in the sprint, that would at least avoid wasted RD's. JAC was tenth in this race last year, more of the same would not go amiss. If one of them scrapes into the top 10 and the other the top 20, would be delighted and meet the PPRD target. However we have already delivered a 0 pointer at a similar C2HC event, so who knows!
Mohs has to start as favourite here, and would be good to see Itami repeat last years solid result given Meiji's shocking start to the season. I'd also tip Holloway for a good day in this field, so let's make my top 3 prediction - Mohs - Holloway - Itami.
Fun fact, WCC have 10 contracted riders in this event with loaned out riders Contreras and Mraouni also on the start list .

Given Ricki all the help we can here. Mitch and Souper as big leadouts, who could happily freelance themselves to a Top10 with some luck. But also some depth in Matthews and G who are decent sprinters and draggers. Those 5 should make up the bulk of our race chances. The Law is here with Kim and Huynh for XP gains and maybe a breakaway appearence.
A Top10 really should be reachable, a Top5 would be ideal. Podium or higher, i'll be a very satisfied manager. Looking forwards to this one!

Expecting outside the Top 10, and barely any mention like the rest of the season so far. Im sure several 78/79 sprinters will beat Itami as well.

Time for Lo Cicero to shine and bring some much needed points when the PT-sprinters are not around to mess things up.

Flat C1 classic, I must have done my season planning while under the influence.
Anyway, the profile suits Drapac more than any other classic so maybe it isn't that bad, but the opposition is mega strong so I'm not counting on a top ten.

Damn, mere meters from a win, that stings! But a 3rd is still good considering the field.

Well done by "Maksimovic" to hang in there against the wind and against the reporters after the race mispronouncing his name.

Finally a great day for Oz Cycling
Great win for Drapac, surely a surprising winner ahead of Goss. A pretty cool podium with also Meiji up there. Congrats to those three and thanks for a nice report.

Such great positioning going into the final moments and...he just stopped. Pretty disappointing, but you're always going to get a few races like this.
Still, the same thing happened to Guerao and Schruers, guess because they all 'went too early'. Although I do find it weird that Vantomme didn't spend any time in the wind and suffered the same fate.
On the bright side, it was cool to see wind playing havoc on a race, always exciting. Bernas and Reckweg did a nice job surviving to the end to chase back attacks score some points each - although it would've been nice if they tried a lead-out given the conditions.
Thanks for the report Abhishek and Congrats Marco on the surprise win!

Boring sprint classic my ass, what a race! Vanbilsen ripped everything apart and Van Asbroeck gets a deserved 4th place.
Also congrats to minions, you should do even more weed while planning the season
Thanks for a great report as well!
