Acropolis Cup
C2HC Classic
Hello and welcome to Greece for the 2nd edition of the Acropolis Cup. A hilly CT classic, it will big the division biggest names in the search for glory on the finish line.
The Favourites
| Hill | Sp | Acc | | | Hill | Sp | Acc | Klemme | 80 | 66 | 66 | | Krizek | 75 | 67 | 76 | Barbin | 78 | 71 | 75 | | Michely | 75 | 67 | 75 | Diggle | 77 | 64 | 70 | | Favilli | 75 | 76 | 74 | Lejman | 77 | 59 | 68 | | Pozzato | 75 | 74 | 74 | Hategeka | 77 | 62 | 66 | | Kinney | 75 | 69 | 74 | Yates | 76 | 73 | 78 | | Mancuso | 75 | 65 | 73 | Pavarin | 76 | 72 | 76 | | Milan | 75 | 70 | 72 | Taborre | 76 | 62 | 72 | | Chérel | 75 | 61 | 72 | Passalacqua | 76 | 62 | 69 | | Khripta | 75 | 63 | 69 | Efimkin | 76 | 56 | 54 | | Ilias | 75 | 64 | 68 |
Looking down the list of favourites, there is one stand-out rider - Dominick Klemme. With no Alex Dowsett present for the La Poste p/b Mavic team, he would be a run away winner here in Greece. Enrico Barbin has proved many times this season that he is no slouch over this terrain, so the Kraftwerk man might not have it all his own way if he doesn't come to the line on his own.
Tom Diggle, Gracjan Lejman and Gasore Hategeka could run our two main favourites all the way, but do lack the top end speed if this ends in a sprint.
Should that be the case (just like we had last year), it has to be advantage to Simon Yates and Marcello Pavarin, with the former taking a number of victories this season from that sort of position, whilst the latter's chances will certainly depend on his level of domesitique duties to Barbin. You could also throw Elia Favilli into that mix as well.
Further down the list, we have the likes of Fabio Taborre, Aleksandr Efimkin and Alberigo Passalacqua, who despite not maybe challenging for the victory, could still come away with a strong Top 5 or Top 10 finish.
Keep and eye out for Pippo Pozzato as well, who showed there is still life in the old dog with his victory at the Lincoln GP.

nice preview, though hopefully we'll prove you wrong for not mentioning Grega here
btw: did you confuse the Sp and Acc line in your table?

With a finish like that Simon has to be in with a real good shout at a top result here. He's spent most of the year punching above his weight (or at least his HL stat) and another performance here would really boost the title fight!

Lejman is useless...
Putting more faith into Kinney, hoping on a top-10!

Slightly weaker squad due to Herald Sun so no Lloyd or Nzeke but Salinas in support and Jams for the break win are here Should be lower top 10 for Diggle but anything can happen in these classics I guess!

Have a top 5 goal here so I have a strong team including Klemme and Stauff backed up with my hill sprinters to cover all the bases.
Result could have a big influence on the title race so looking forward to it.
Thanks for the preview the_hoyle.

De Maar is historically good here, finishing second last year iirc. It's suits him too, so even though there are at least 20 puncheurs better than him, I'm hoping he puts in a dig somewhere and at least shows his stripes.

Wow, surprising winner! Congrats the_hoyle for the victory and thanks the_hoyle for the report!
As far as I'm concerned Kinney did a good job to finish seventh, and Milan got some points out of here as well. I won't even get started on Lejman.

To say I expected this victory is a complete lie! Nerve racking playing the stage, and made even worse by the fact I had no control of the outcome or what Thaouta was doing effort wise. Massive boost to us after a poor August, and with Bille and Cherel picking up points, I couldn't be happier.

If only Jams was in the break 7th is pretty average I guess.

This is why we don't usually let reporters report their own races.
I'm very pleased with De Maar's performance here. That's the type of rides I like to see him put out there. What he lacks in hill, he gains by the fact that he's always willing to put himself out there. A podium here is a tremendous result with everything else that has been going sour lately.
Congrats and thanks to the_hoyle! Now that's a strange phrase! One tip though. Always save the replay at the end of a stage you report until the report is done, just in case something goes wrong with the screens. No big deal, just something to keep in mind.

Congrats and thanks to the_hoyle
Looked like Kraftwerk were left to do the chasing and weren't quite up to the job. Pity Klemme didn't get away in an attack, waiting for a sprint finish was never going to end well.
Lost ground to our main rivals and missed our goal, bit of a Greek tragedy.

@bbl At least my copy of PCM 15 crashes when opening replays, not sure about hoyle's but it's a lot safer not to touch that

Same here. I never touch replays as I hate when it crashes because of it, which happens at times.
Though I luckily never have problems with screenshots normally.
Congrats the_hoyle. A bit of reporter`s luck is always nice. |

My laptop was running a bit laggy towards the end of the stage, so I didn't want to touch the replay button or even minimise the game to check what had been captured.. It took long enough to give me the newspaper page after the stage.
I have had the issue before (when writing stories) where the screenshot button doesn't work as the game is lagging and still trying to process the change of camera angle.
Thanks for the words of congrats
