Tour of Iceland
A brand new race on the schedule and it's a pretty special one: we're heading for Iceland, where the inaugaral Tour of Iceland makes for a novum in the MG history. It's not just a special event for the new CT team Verkefnid Iceland.
Four stages and one key stage right at the beginning: the 38km timetrial in Reykjavik. Two quite tricky flat stages and of course the key hilly stage on third day should make for an interesting race. Definitely a race for strong allrounders, but we may see both TT-specialists and pure puncheurs battling for the overall victory here.
The Startlist
The GC-Favorites TTlers | HI | TT | | Puncheurs | HI | TT | Tennant | 69 | 78 | | Lejman | 77 | 58 | Boaro | 71 | 77 | | Vastaranta | 76 | 69 | Rolland | 70 | 77 | | Simon | 76 | 67 | AramendÃa | 67 | 77 | | Passalacqua | 76 | 58 | Sebright | 60 | 77 | | Durasek | 75 | 74 | Pökälä | 71 | 76 | | Kinney | 75 | 69 | Bontenackels | 62 | 76 | | Chérel | 75 | 67 | Renäng | 56 | 76 | | Gougeard | 75 | 67 | Fejes | 70 | 75 | | Godoy | 75 | 65 | Ignatiev | 69 | 75 | | Cioban | 75 | 64 | Sagan | 68 | 75 | | Favilli | 75 | 63 | Rosas | 65 | 75 | | Ilias | 75 | 63 | Sakellaridis | 62 | 75 | | Bazhkou | 74 | 74 | Van Aelbroeck | 61 | 75 | | Rosskopf | 74 | 74 | Goldstein | 60 | 75 | | Omarsson | 74 | 73 |
Let's begin with the chronomen: Tennant, Boaro/Rolland, AramendÃa and some better puncheurs like Pökälä or Fejes could well fight for the GC til the end. It all depends on how hard the hilly stage will be raced though. Someone like Boaro can pull a strong performance when in yellow there!
Lejman as the best puncheur, but obviously lacking the TT-skills. Vastaranta, Simon, Durasek or Kinney probably with better odds here. Especially those allrounders like Durasek, Bazhkou, Rosskopf and also local hero Omarsson should benefit from the early TT.
The Sprinters Rider | HI | SPR | ACC | Rider | HI | SPR | ACC | Richeze | 66 | 80 | 79 | Hutarovich | 62 | 78 | 80 | Lavoine | 60 | 80 | 78 | Pelucchi | 68 | 78 | 77 | Meyer | 60 | 80 | 76 | Moser | 67 | 78 | 77 | Forero | 61 | 80 | 75 | Westling | 56 | 78 | 74 | Hochmann | 54 | 79 | 80 | King | 65 | 78 | 73 | Corioni | 64 | 79 | 75 | Giacoppo | 64 | 77 | 75 |
Richeze, Lavoine, Meyer and Forero make for a pretty packed list of sprinters. Also Hochmann, Corioni, Hutarovich and Pelucchi or Moser can be real threats. Looking at the profiles, especially the first flat stage looks quite challenging, so better "climbers" like Pelucchi may suit this particular stage.

Durasek with good chances here
Lavoine to take a stage and Richeze will take the other I guess
We could win this and Zielinski can pull a Middle East perhaps ?

I seriously regret not bringing Rabon. Hopefully we can surprise somewhere, but expectations are low.

Hoping one either a good TT by Haga/Griffith or a good punch by Kinney, top 10's can hopefully be reached in both situations

Maybe a few top 10's on the sprint stages. Daspuntsag might be able to do well. Delgerbayar for a high finish in the TT maybe...

I have a KOM goal here, but it will be difficult to reach it i think :/ Let's hope that Ilias assures and that Simantirakis does the same as in Trentino

I wish that I had been able to race here, it being Scandinavian and all. Plus the parcours are quite interesting. But I chose the other band, so it was not to be.

Durasek lost a lot of time and could probably have done much better.
My plan is to get Lejman far enough behind to be able to join the break on the hilly stage and take the GC from there. Plan A is Durasek and he lost a chunk of time to the non punchers, still strongest puncher in the GC after this stage, but will be tough.
Now come Lavoine and hopefully he can do something on next stage

FINALLY Tennant delivers. In a goal race nonetheless. Now it's important to hold the lead all the way and win the GC. Come on guys

Have been looking quite a bit forward to this. Vastaranta lost more on the TT than I had hoped, but Pökälä and Renäng did decently, and Pökälä is actually my buggest GC hope here so that's ok.

Didn't expect much, didn't get much. If there's no break succeeding Tennant probably has the GC already.

Prerace my money was on the Generali duo for the GC but this TT was disastrous for them.
Nice to see Strava with a win once again. As usually I'm cheering for them to keep that jersey

To say that I had ruled out the opening TT, I will gladly accept the Top 5 from Gallopin.
Nice TT from Tennant, who lived up to his favourite tag pre-race (finally as Shonak said!).
Thanks for the report tsmoha

Congratulations Minions, we're now officially the only CT team without victory.
