Already since 2009 the Giro dell'Emilia, which takes place in Emilia-Romagna, has been part of the calendar. Apart from 2010 it has always been part of the Continental Tour, and the winners are all different. One thing is for sure: we will get a new winner, to follow on the list which includes legends such as Cunego and Ricco, as last year's winner Ginanni rides for ProTour team Pokerstars now.
The route is the exact same as last year. This means that we''ll have a long run to the hilly section, which includes the two longest climbs of the day, the Monzuno and Ganzole. However, the finish lies on the summit of the San Luca, which is preceded by a 2km climb at over 10%. It has to be ascended no less than 5 times today.
With today's hilly parcours and the highest summit not rising over 678 meters, the punchers are the absolute favourites for today. The top favourite for today therefore seems Chris Froome. With Serry as main lieutenant his support isn't too shabby either.
He can hardly be called uncontested though, as behind him a huge field is probably very willing to beat him. These riders include Bellis, who, with Durasek and Anderson by his side can't complain about his support either. Monfort is another favourite, and with Weening by his side he can't be excluded. Gautier may not have this much support, but on the other hand he does have a good punch and acceleration, which may deliver him victory as well. Skujins should do well here as well. With Hoogerland and Löfkvist by his side he's at least an outsider here, but a top-5 is definitely within range. Di Maggio rides here for home team Venchi. He may however be too bad at mountains for this race, and his acceleration is not the best. With Craven his team has another candidate for today though. Bobridge is another one of the many favourites here. He combines a good punch with excellent acceleration. This combination might be what it takes for victory. Finally, Dowsett is a 'real' favourite here. His acceleration may not be the best, but he will try to compensate that on the hills.
Behind these favourites, there are many, many outsiders. These include Kelderman, Kangert, Hategeka, Konovalovas, Mehr-Wenige and Vogt.
Finally, one CT-team is present here. Team Vontobel will surely try to show what it's worth.

Let's try a new approach to those hilly races: no expectations.
Also, di Maggio rides for Venchi

Cool preview. Bobridge with a chance to score. Would be nice to see as for the individual rankings.

Such a fun route. In keeping with my rooting for former El Al riders, would love to see a good result for Konovalovas here. |

I'd like a top 10 from Gautier here, but to be honest I'll take whatever seeing as it's our penultimate race |

Hategeka good result? Yes, no, maybe? Guys have a carte Blanche for this one.
I don't see why Quickstep won't continue their domination here.

Has to aim for a top 30. Everything beyond that will be a surprise. Would be nice to get someone into a breakaway for once.

Matteo Montaguti is a son of Emilia-Romagna, born in Forli (not far from Bologna. We hope for many cheers and a determined leader,... don't be surprised if Vontobel overperforms.

Good to se Swedbank so far up in the favourites ranking. Hopefully Paajanen will do some good work in his final race for them.

Last goal race of the season. Need a top 5 here. This course should fit Di Maggio better than Milano - Torino, so I am optimistic.

More then likely Bellis will attack with 50km to go get brought back go with the attack at 20km to go that sticks and finish top 5 in the sprint after wasting himself not that that bothers me a top 5 i'm happy with |

AMEXpc needs points and we have enough 2nd and 3rd tier punchuers that there is no reason we should not get 3 to score. 40 points would be a good day racing for us with this start list.
Go for the breakaway!

Rough on Froome to peter out like that. Nice win for Di Maggio though.
It's funny how difficult it is to separate man-game Froome from real life Froome. Expressing condolences to Froome pains me deeply...

You're starting to come across a bit like Mel Gibson, except if he had an army of about a dozen warriors...
