Now we have a thread for the Tour of the Basque Country or the Euskal Herriko txirrindulari itzulia.
Can anyone take care of race profiles and a startlist?

Tends to be one of the best races of the season. Wouldn't miss it for the world

Saxo is coming to Basque country with extreme squad, i am keen to see what they can do there with Contador, Kreuziger and Roche. I think Conta going for top3 and Kreuziger for late top 10 should be possible.
Also what about Andy, will he finish the race?
And i believe winner is given, we end by 24kms long TT, so i think nobody can stop that Porte reborn champion.

Too bad Mollema isn't racing. He looked in good shape. |

Surprising that Purito isn't taking part, with the Ardennes coming up soon. This race always suits him extremely well. Great opportunity for Spilak to show the strength that won him GP Miguel Indurain.
Porte to win, obviously. Contie might've been able to challenge him normally, but I highly doubt it after his illness on Corsica.

Sky starting with only 6 riders will hit them hard considering this is one of the toughest races out there.
Will be sure one great race though.

I dunno, I think the length of the TT may skew it towards Tony Martin - I know it is a hilly one with a nasty wall towards the end but Martin is for me streets ahead in TTing to anyone in this race. It does mean that the hilly guys especially riders like Quintana and Samu's Orange brigade have to make this one tough.
Just loads of guys though to form check going into the Ardennes and even looking ahead to the Giro.
Slagter, Poels, Pinot, Garmin returners, Vanendert, Gerrans, Ulissi, Betencur, Kolobnev, Spilak, Gasparotto, Serry and Skybots... plenty of guys to keep an eye on. Oh and Andy Schleck on this nasty (and usually wet) Basque roads!

According to the Team Sky website they are also sending Ian Boswell and Joshua Edmondson along with the six already mentioned |

Sammy Sanchez to win this one for me. One of the only races in the season where Euskaltel has a strong team. And fully Basque!
Can't see Tony Martin limiting his losses in Eibar and the other hills.

Euskaltel sending close to their strongest team possible here very exiting...
I wouldn't think this will be Porte's race but Sky's 'marginal' gains work wonders...
Contador for this one!

The Itzulia is usually the best one week stage race, racing wise, maybe together with Switzerland. Looking forward very much to it.

Even if stages 3 and 4 don't kill him with their hill/mountaintop finishes stage 5 is just going to be too much for Martin. Too much punch required on those short and steep climbs. I think he is just here to grab the stage win.

A surprise might take this. Spilak, Ulissi might be surprises to watch out for. |

Contador to take this one.
Stage 1: Didier (RLT) and Txurruka (CJR) are the two men in the breakaway and they have a fair bit of lead (5'15" at km 47, which was about half an hour ago, according to their Twitter) |

I can see Slagter or Poels doing a good job today.
Or it's just hoping

The same for me(About Mollema). I fear that Slagter has already peaked this season(January) though. Still, Poels surprised me a bit in Tirreno, I thought his form would be worse after that injury. Who knows what he can do in Pais Vasco? No win, I know, but maybe he can impress

A "mini-bet": In what stage will Andy abandon?
I bet he will do it on stage 4. |
