Im working on compiling a DO's and DONT's list for stories
a general guide for new and existing story writes
advice, tips, criticisms etc
range across all story types (one rider, team etc) all lengths (short, long etc)
some will be obvious some not so much
I have 10-15 do's and dont's so far but i want to cover as much as i can
I've been re-reading many old stories, and current ones to pick up things
but i want some help. Anyone, whether you've written 1 story, none or 100 doesnt matter. 1 season, 1 day, 12 years doesnt matter...
just PM me any ideas (titled DO/DONT or some variation)
if your idea makes the list i will credit you next to the idea
When the list is completed it will go into the Tips/Tricks section, and i hope in a Topic section aswell
as an example;
DO - take inspiration from a good story ... DONT - just copy an existing story with different names
(but more specific than that)
hope i get some replies
let me know what you think

And most people wont if they have computers with a good graphics card. jpg means a loss in picture quality and if you play with great graphics you can spot some differences!
Plus, you cant dictate what format people should be using... We all live in Western countries (meaning, we all have a personal freedom) Unless otherwise stated in rules about story writing people are free to choose what ever format they want. Besides you wouldnt ant all shirts to be displayed in jpg, would you?

Damn you alcohol!!!!
I like the: stick to one story for at least a season. That's the point where most stories die. Lating for several months, and then start a new one, and a new one, and a... think I've made my point. Says the guy who is about to start his 4th season and has over 170 pages

Nice list there Here's a couple more:
Do - write some reports of the story before creating a thread, so you can know how much time it'll take, if you'll have the motivation to keep it going, etc (cunego59 was the one who said this in some thread some time ago).
Don't - avoid writing walls of text, they're boring to read

That's also a good point yea, I always pretype it in word and just copy it. If i make any mistakes I won't have to edit and stuff.
@Manx: Nice list! Will keep them in mind! |

Quite a nice list so far.
Maybe it should be in tips and tricks or something?
Maybe we could request a new category there: Stories? |
