It was a bit surreal seeing Paul and the Schwinn again.
It took me back to my roots and why I started cycling in the first place.
A great new motivation to have going into my last scheduled race of the season.

August 19-25, 2017 : USA Pro Cycling Challenge

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/PastResults_zps86a7bc41.jpg

The competition has been fierce here in Colorado for the past 4 seasons.
Hopefully my first ever race here will be a little easier.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/Startlist_zps849a70e7.jpg

That's a little better, favourites look to be Fuglsang, Bakelants, and Acevedo.
A few frenchies make the trip, so that should stir up the crowd,
and I feel sorry for De Kort as his whole team ditched him.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/Squad_zps14cf39f0.jpg

I'm the leader for team Fox and I have my trusty side-kick Warbasse with me.

A short 6km downhill prologue kicks things off in this 7 stage tour.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S1-1_zps6755afed.jpg

I dreamed of winning stages like this as a kid while riding the Schwinn to school.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S1-2_zps63beb757.jpg

Sorry to disappoint you, but today wasn't like my childhood dream. +17" (35th).

Assuming the climb at the beginning is taken easy an uphill sprint finish is likely.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-1_zps24603536.jpg

Breakaway of 3 gets away, and the peloton does just coast up the cat. 2 climb.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-2_zps3e635416.jpg

Jump to about 20km to go, the morning breakaway is being chased by
a group of 4 late attackers. No favourites but they are decent climbers.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-3_zpsd6a206aa.jpg

6kms to go and the peloton does their job, everyone is back together.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-4_zps419b6f7b.jpg

The first attack comes from Jakob Fuglsang! Red alert!

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-5_zps8da860fc.jpg

Red alert because Fuglsang is quickly brought back and Rémy Cusin
wearing the red Air Canada colors is on the move. The crowd is irate.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-6_zps2536dc57.jpg

1km to go and Cusin might pull off a Romain Feillu type victory...

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-7_zps83324cde.jpg

Jan Bakelants and I are closing in, can we stop the Frenchman?

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S2-8_zps5e678fe9.jpg

Phew, that was close. Bakelants steals the win and the crowd goes wild!
I get 3rd place and the bonus seconds help me move up to 9th overall.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-Profile_zps1f543a08.jpg

The only mountain stage of the tour, but it's 210kms. A very long day ahead.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-1_zps52d82bde.jpg

Let's fast forward to the final climb, the morning breakaway of 3 is being chased by a late attack group of 3. This is very similar to what happened yesterday.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-2_zps40127256.jpg

However, the peloton doesn't seem interested in chasing so the tag-team
of Warbasse and I decide to raise the tempo ourselves. Attack!
This has worked before so why not try it again?

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-3_zps9743f7e0.jpg

1km from the top and Warbasse and I are dangling out in front of the peloton.
We have pulled back 4 minutes on the breakaway in 10kms. Pretty impressive.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-4_zps214a4387.jpg

Going over the top I ditch Warbasse to try and catch the lead group of 6.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-5_zps0367d3f0.jpg

And I do with 4kms to go! The peloton is just 20 seconds behind us though.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-6_zps34c251bd.jpg

Under the banner! This is going to be close!

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-7_zps058584b6.jpg

I'm out-sprinted and finish 4th but I'm more concerned about getting a gap.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep8/S3-8_zps3c6492b7.jpg

That's a gap, right? Nope. Not by the race officials standards.
Seriously, why do these guys still have a grudge against me?

+1 EXP for back to back top 5's, while the form continues to drop.

The next race update will include Stages 4-5 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge:

Spoiler

My training is now in your hands for the rest of my career.
After each race I can receive both EXP and Form Points.
EXP is a permanent stat gains while Form is temporary (the next race update).
A maximum of 3 EXP and 5 Form can be rewarded after each stage.

After any stage I receive EXP or Form points
you guys get to decided where I put those stat gains to use.

All you have to do is comment on which category you want
1 of the stat gains to go (Ex. Mountain, Sprint, Flat, etc.)
The EXP points are used up first followed by the Form.

Each member can only say one category for themselves.
And it will go until all the points are used up.

If you have any questions about my training, leave a question below.
It looks confusing at first but it's rather simple,
and this will be the only method for me to progress talent wise.

Welcome back for stages 4 and 5 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
I'm currently 9th overall, but only 19 seconds off the GC leader Jan Bakelants.

--- *** --- *** --- *** ---

Perhaps the most crucial stage of the tour as the mountains
haven't been able to split up the pack yet.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep9/S4-1_zpsc63271ee.jpg

Warbasse gave me a few tips before I headed out from the start house.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep9/S4-2_zps35e91d27.jpg

Looks like his tips were valid as I hit the finish with the 2nd best time so far.
8 seconds behind current leader Peter Stetina of Target - AT&T.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep9/S4-3_zps12c28592.jpg

Two riders later Alexsandr Dyachenko beats Stetina by 6 seconds.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep9/S4-4_zps68de6f5a.jpg

Two riders later his teammate Fuglsang beats him by 3 seconds.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep9/S4-5_zpsdcc31922.jpg

Sergent gets the fastest time at the checkpoints but falls apart on the climb.
The two Astana boys, Dyachenko and Fuglsang, hold the top two spots still.

i1080.photobucket.com/albums/j335/mresuperstar2/The%20Comeback/Season%2016/Ep9/S4-6_zps6cb2d864.jpg

The last man to have a chance to knock them off is the yellow jersey...
And he does! Jan Bakelants extends his overall lead. I finish 6th on the day.

Nothing really EXP worth, but the form points remain the same.

The next race update will finish the USA Pro Cycling Challenge:

Current Stats

Judging by the title, USAP3 is the last race episode. Assuming I do get to upgrade downhill, that would only get it to 72, and more people would have to help...

I give up. Travis will never be as good as Taylor Newton in descending.

Travis has certainly been riding consistently at the Pro Cycling Challenge Smile good luck for the last two stages Wink

6th place overall is pretty good so far, in such an important race (among the American races, ofc Pfft). Besides, Travis did great on the first hilly stage, so with another good day he can definitely overtake Stetina for 5th, and who knows, maybe even climb to the podium? Go Travis! Pfft

On another note, he's got 76 MO now? Shock See, you should have announced that it would end a couple of seasons earlier, then people would be more concerned about getting him to be someone in cycling, rather a nobody with medium downhill and cobble skills Pfft

Luigi, you are trying to hint that Travis should have tried to dope again? Shock
