COMMENT POST RACE: COPA AMERICA DE CICLISMO
Welcome,
I'm the D.S. of team BNPParibas and this is the start/ first comment post race. This was the first race of the season and the beginning was very exciting, promising equally beautiful races during the season.
Our goal here was a Top 15, in fact in the sprint we can't compete with Miche and Node 4.
Now let's come to the race: we tried to put Godet in the breakaway
Unfortunately they were caught after few kilometres. Then Node 4 took the responsibility of leading the peloton and then close the gap to the breakaway. So we come to the sprint with Martinez as our main sprinter
And then the sprint starts with Pierzga who wins an exciting race followed by Frazer and Hannachi.
This was pretty surprising because the main favourites were Borghesi, Sabatini (Miche) and Hawkins (Node4).
About the team we knew here the competition was really fierce and as said before our expectations weren't high. In fact our best rider here was Martinez (20th)
BEST RIDER:
-Martinez: he did a decent sprint finishing 20th very near to our goal.
DISAPPOINTING RIDER:
-Jules: He was our leader here but apparently has not even participated in the sprint
TEAM OVERRALL: 5.5
Out of the Top 15 and not able to put even a rider in the break. This means that the performance of the team was disappointing and a twentieth place is not enough to save a race to forget

Comments Post Race - Miche - Copa America De Ciclismo
So obviously a big goal for use in the Mini man game this year was to dominate the flat stages. I thought we could. With the two best sprinters, it seemed obvious to me that the team would make a sprint train with the short and flat parcours.
Apparently, one of our domestiques, Lorenzo Bernucci. decided completely wreck all of our teams chances with a useless attack late in the race. I told the team through race radio to go for it anyway, but by that time, our domestiques had slacked off the front, and our sprinters were poorly positioned. our best result was Borghesi is 6th. This is unacceptable.
Bernucci's flailing acceleration does not go unnoticed. For his part in the catastrophe, I have locked him in a vault and severely beaten him. I attempted to pull him from further races but the startlists have already been sent out. I am not sure if killing him will give my team a penalty, so i have refrained from doing so. I cannot be sure whether his decisions were influenced by cocaine. He will regret this action
For now, we look forward to the next race for better results there, hopefully without Lorenzo...

LKT Race Review
Copa America de Ciclismo
The race profile shows that the race for one for the sprinters, which LKT really lacked, so a top 10 and some camera time would go well here
The Race
In the end, Mohlmann lacked the power to finish in the top 10 but clearly showed the team colours in this brilliant show of power beforehand:
Manager's View
What did you think of the team's performance?
The race was not certainly one for the team so obviously not managing to get in the top 10 is not a problem, Mohlmann tried his luck from far out and in the end it just wasn't the right idea. We can take this as a good result and I hope the confidence the team has will be shown in the next races. The team managing to show it's colours was also nice to see.
Anything else you'd like to add?
Just to say congratulations to Adam Pierzga, we wanted him but when we contacted him, he was already taken, such a shame but Fuji have a nice rider in their hands...

Post Race Press Conference - Node4 Giordana
No profile available. Completely flat.
The team did well in driving the peloton, though we expected some COOPERATION from Miche!
And that teamwork continues the whole race, I couldn't have asked for a better leadout train.
But in the end we could only manage a disappointing 9th. Perhaps we can attribute that to Peter's poor beginning - of - season fitness.
Press Conference with Node 4 DS, Number Guy
Q: How disappointed are you with today's result?
A: To be honest, I can live with it. Although we were aiming for a podium, we showed our colors well and had great teamwork. It's certainly a sign of better things to come.
Q: What is your team strategy moving forward?
Again, we would like to aim for the same strategy as today, controlling the race all the way to the flamme rouge. The [Copa] was really completely flat, and I think some of our guys, I've seen great things from them in the hillier routes, we should be looking for better results then.
Q: Anything else?
No, just waiting for the day that the top 8 finishers are all caught using EPO.

Copa America de Ciclismo - Post Race Comments
I told the guys before the race that I would consider it a success if a picture was taken of our jersey. I guess Kenny took that a bit literal as he was photographed sitting in the middle of the crash...
Well for the next race I guess I'll have to give them a bit more specific instructions...
Perhaps something about attacking and trying to sprint in the end?

Spoiler So sorry this is a bit late, just haven't had the time to do anything recently
Kalev is a new cycling team based primarily in the Baltic, offering a wide range of opportunities for cyclists both young and old. After an initial team of eight riders was formed, nearly all from the Baltic region, we managed to procure the signatures of two experienced riders to help the younger ones along.
AS Kalev is an Estonian confectionery company. The company can trace its origins back two hundred years, it was founded in 1806, and is now a part of the industrial conglomerate Orkla Group.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Drasutis Stundzia | Time-triallist | 33 | 71 |
The oldest man on the team, Drasutis will look to impart experience to the younger riders in the team with his knowledge of the pro peloton. A strong time-triallist at this level in his own right as well, so he will be aiming for some top 10 places in the time-trial stages this season, as well as being one of the earlier members of the lead-out train.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Erivin Korts-Laur | Time-triallist | 27 | 71 |
A very similar type of rider to Stundzia, but not quite as good on the flat; Korts-Laur is the type to go on the attack in the flat stages of a stage-race to try and show off the jersey.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Martins Trautmanis | Fighter | 25 | 71 |
A decent all-round rider who can get up the hills, Martins is excellent at downhilling, in fact, probably one of the best at that in the peloton here at the moment. He also likes to go on the attack regularly and I'm sure he'll be looking for some stage placings from the break.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Mantas Blekevicius | Puncheur | 24 | 71 |
Mantas is a solid domestique who can climb hills, but isn't so good on the longer climbs. He also has a decent kick at the end, but he'll probably spend most of his time aiding the marginally better climbers in the team.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Ivo Suur | Climber | 24 | 70 |
Ivo is a talented rider, no doubt about it, but, whilst he favours the big mountains, he needs to develop some other skills to make him into a better rounded cyclist. At 24, he's still got some good years ahead of him, though.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Kristofers Racenajs | Lead-out | 28 | 70 |
Kristofers is a solid lead-out man who might get the chance to sprint for himself at some point during the season. He has good stamina, so will be useful in the longer stages in guiding our preferred sprinter into the right position.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Cristian Omar Clavero | Sprinter | 31 | 70 |
Cristian is one of the aforementioned experienced riders we signed from overseas to inject some knowledge into the team. At 31 he's seen quite a lot and he's also a very good sprinter, possibly able to go head-to-head with the top sprinters of the division. If we get a lead-out train right, he could get us a stage win - there are certainly lots of opportunities! He also rides a good prologue
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Andreas Matzbacher | Climber | 31 | 70 |
Andreas hails from Austria, a little journey away from the Baltic but says he thinks of it as a second home. He is probably the best climber on the team and will spend most of the season cooperating with Ivo to form a decent climbing duo that will hope to slip under the radar. He will be targeting Tour of Andorra, but there are plenty of other climbers there, so he will have his work cut out.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Marius Bernatonis | Sprinter | 26 | 69 |
Whilst statistically being the secondary sprinter, that doesn't mean that Marius will have plenty of opportunities this season to deliver a good result. His good positioning skills mean that he may be able to pick a good wheel, but he has plenty of support if he doesn't. Marius will probably be aiming for a few top 10's this season.
| | Specialisation | Age | Avg | | Harry Kraft | Lead-out | 23 | 68 |
The last man on our roster is also the youngest. Harry is a stagiare coming from team Koenigsegg and his youthful enthusiasm will surely lift team spirits. Not only will he be a key member of the lead-out team, he can also ride a decent prologue, a bit like Cristian. One for the future, but hopefully one also for the present.
Team presentation roundup
All in all, I think you will be able to conclude from that team presentation that we are a sprinting-orientated team, although we have riders who are capable of doing well in all terrains, so where we might lose out to the big sprinting teams like Miche and Node4, we might be able to regain some ground in areas like breaks and the prologue, for example.
We're not setting ourselves specific goals this season, as we know failure to meet them would result in massive disappointment for some of the guys on the team, and that wouldn't be good for team morale, something we value very highly here. So our aim is just to try our best and see what happens:
'By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail' - Benjamin Franklin
That's it from us at Kalev, we hope to see some of you following the progress of our team over the season

Copa America de Ciclismo
The first race of the mini season, was a flat route in Brazil. The team wanted a podium place out of our sprinter: Frazer
He achieved the goal taking second place, despite being placed very far back near the finish. After the race, the sprinter said that "he was disappointed that he got boxed in, and that we hoped he would be put in a better position next time." The lack of help was obvious as our next best placed rider was way back in 65th.

Copa America de Ciclismo
Post-race telephone interview with 7-Eleven CEO Joe Depinto
Introduction
As we're very interested in reading the point of view of every team DS for every race, we decided we wanted to hear Mr. Depinto's view of the Copa America de Ciclismo. After spending nearly a week trying to get in touch with him, we decided to make a gamble and make a telephone call to the 7-Eleven Corporate HQ.
Below is the transcript of our phone conversation, for all you cycling fans.

M: 7-Eleven Corporate, mr. Depinto's office. This is his assistant Mary, how may I help you?
I: Hello, I'm calling for a phone interview with Mr. Depinto, we are from a Cycling website and want to hear what he has to say about his cycling team and the latest race.

J:You do know that I am the CEO of a multimillion dollar franchise right?
I: Yes, but...
J: Do you really expect me to make time for the press for every single race? Make a nice little presentation and all that with flashy images?

J: Who do you think I am? Some high school kid or lazy ass student with too much time on his hands? Who can spend all day browsing internet forums of whatever nerdy games he plays? No!!! Please don't ever call me again, and don't expect me to comment after every single little race. If I have something to say, my people will contact you.
