Eenkhoorn losing two minutes is a bummer. Makes it a lot harder to fight for the top 10 GC spots
Congrats to bbl and abhi for a great result.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Much better with our own train it seems. Much closer to the podium and always near the frond during the sprint.
AKA is on fire

That looked like a perfect leadout by Sarreau! A pity Prasad lost the wheel and got boxed in, but also that he then had to open up without a slipstream to catch Sarreau.
AKA making a statement against the ACC fans! Congratulations again, bbl! |

Thanks for the preview and the first 3 stages Ulrich Ulriksen, really hope we finally get into the KoM fight this Grand Tour. Not much in it for us at the beginning of this race, Rikunov loosing 5 minutes at stage 1 and Vingegaard, Rybalkin and Foliforov loosing 2 minutes at stage 3 was unnecessary. Hopefully we can turns things around later on. Good luck to all!

What a great story for AKA and Carlsberg! And great and vital scoring from Kuli as well for Sony
Areruya starting the Vuelta in great fashion as well, let's see how long he can stretch this
Thanks for the superb reporting so far, Ulrich!

Ouch. What is wrong with Szarka? He should easily be a Top 10 sprinter here, but something really doesn't work out... That's two complete misses out of two bunch sprints. And El Chapu didn't do any better in the hills, either - looks like this is going to be a loooooong race for us.
Thanks to Uhlig for at least showing we're actually here, otherwise nobody would have noticed so far.
Congrats to Carlsberg, the old man still has it!

Hmmm. I guess the team is just going for Aranburu now, which isn't great. It's still weird to me how these splits so often seem to just be from guys randomly sitting up rather than actually falling behind in terms of energy.
Guess at this point we're building up Carthy's buffer for a breakaway (hopefully).

Looks similar to the TdF so far. We are extremely passive. Why not throw riders in the break? Giannoutsos lost time aswell, so a pretty bad stage.
Congrats red :-)

Apologies for my absence in recent times.
Very excited for the last GT of the season and probably our most important as well. Latour after a lackluster season needs to prove himself pretty majorly here - apart from Herklotz it looks wide open here so he definitely has the opportunity. A top-5 would be the minimum for his capabilities and suitability to the parcours, but with the way GT’s have been raced so far I could see others getting lucky in breaks and him struggling. Time will tell!
Excited to see what Areruya can do in a GT as well, and potentially Herklotz’s audition for another team.
Thank you for the wonderful preview.

Not sure why the whole team waiting for Afewerki but oh well if we can get him to the end of the race he could do some good stuff! Gonov is our sole representative at the moment. Good breakaway but a bit unlucky not getting the GC lead from it. Only 14 seconds though so who knows.
The rest of the team are primed for breakaways now which I’m excited to see!

Champoussin wouldn't have stood a chance in this soft uphill finishes, but the breakaway getting 7 minutes is kind of crazy. It's a shame we didn't have anyone in the breakaway, but kind of hard with Champoussin in our team. On the plus side, we had a good presence in the main group.
Congrats, red!

Thank you for the report, UU! And congratulations, red!
Kind of understandable from Carlsberg that they didn’t want to burn through their domestiques on such a stage, eventhough I’d obviously have liked to see Valter again fighting for a stage win Good to see him well positioned in the peloton in the closing kilometers, also showing strength in the sprint/final climb.
Very curious now to see how Valter can do on stage 5. Could be too difficult for him to hang on and fight for the stage, but hopefully he will try his best. Hope/suspect his good GC placing should play in his favour regarding positioning, making it easier for him to have a go at lasting as long as possible. Should be a good tell for future seasons and possible GT participation, but also for what can be seen moving on in this Vuelta. |

Big win for Chumil! Cedevita might be out of relegation danger now
A shame Aular lost time on a day where the peloton took it so easy. Shouldn't happen. But as a wise man once said, this might lay the foundation for a breakaway victory later in the race!
Thank you for a great report again, Ulrich!

Shame we didnt go with that break, but happy that Dombrowski was one of the few GC riders who finished in the first peloton.
Grats red!

Not huge on the tactic of giving away wins to the breakaway just yet, there are points to be had and bonus seconds to be won. But this stuff happens in Grand Tours sometimes, and not a moan about the AI just wishing we took a different tactical direction. Hope this means Areruya is confident in his ability to make it count when it matters. First test tomorrow with his first Pro Tour mountain stage since his training.
Congrats red, very cool moment

Well, at least my team was strong in that 2nd group.
Obviously not too bad to lose on 4 superior riders only here, but ideally Wellens + support would lead to not lose contact on those kind of stages at all.
That said, can`t expect a lot against stronger riders, so maybe going into a situation which allows breakaways might be better point wise.
All those support riders hopefully becoming more active on later stages and not just accompany Wellens all stage. |
