Thank you for another report, UU!
Definitely think Valter dodged a bullet and was quite lucky there to see no gaps occur. It means he's still in contention for a top 5 GC place, but we will need the final stage to be selective and have all those great TT riders dropped. Seeing how the first hilly stages have played out, I'm not sure we will. Still, it's great that we got the chance, fingers crossed he can make use of the opportunity compared to Portugal.
Vansevenant with another win is massive for Fastned, as it really should seal the GC for him, I think. I mean, his gap to Pidcock is the same as Pidcock's gap to 18th place, and it will be a surprise to see Pidcock gap Vansevenant on the final hilly stage. Though, you clearly never know with the new beast this season...
Must be amazing for roturn to see Vansevenant though, straight from finishing development to claiming both these stages in Tirreno and very likely the GC too. Congratulations, roturn! |

Another stage without a time loss for Plapp. This could still end up a good race

It looked like TGH was a goner there, but he somehow managed to recover and finish in the main group of favourites. Two more painful stages to get through!

Another fantastic performance by Vansevenant. Demare was a bit worrying in that group but apparently it was too hard in the end for him and then Vansevenant was best of the others.
The gap now looking pretty solid for the TT but the 6th stage is yet to be taken first. Hopefully we will see a similar scenario there.
Havik again with a great early work and still doing fine till the end. Denz and Bax being able to save energy until the final part is great to see.
A bit unfortunate to see the gap between 11th and 12th not rewarded. This would have been a great scenario for non TTers otherwise. Maybe happening on the 6th or more bonus seconds there ideally.
Thanks for the report. |

Hum... I definitely underestimated that steep climb at the end. It turns out that betting on Groves definitely was the wrong strategy there, fortunately Errazkin reacted in time to help closing the gap. We're definitely lucky that no gaps were awarded for the Top 9 there. Errazkin should be able to keep up with the best on S6, whereas I now think that this finale will be too hard for Groves. Still, if the latter could get some bonus seconds tomorrow - ideally even winning the stage - he could still get a decent GC result now. For Errazkin, finishing outside the Top 15 would be disappointed as it stands now.
Congrats to Fastned again - I really though Pidcock would win the GC, but Vansevenant clearly doesn't agree. Might come down to bonus seconds on the next 2 stages though, but the two youngsters should end up 1/2 in GC.
Thanks for the report.

Looks like we have a clear favorite for the GC now.
Good to see Kron among the best, but given that he is out ot the GC battle he should be helping Remco, who is in very a good position for the GC.

Very nice to see the team and most of all self developed riders Ruiz and Osorio with some great domestique work at the highest level. Good final sprint from Higuita for some bonus seconds, that might be very valuable in the end. Not dropping the tt'ists is definitely not ideal for his final GC result, but we're seeing the team work and Higuita compete with some of the best puncheurs so that's all we can ask for.
Thanks for the great report, Ulrich, and congratulations on the Vansevenant show to roturn!

Some funky splits and the riders making them which hasn't gone our way here. Hopefully we can battle on for a stage win but otherwise looking like a pretty dismal return from the GC guys here.

Glad we were able to neutralize that first big split. Aleotti and Malecki eventually being able to finish in the first group is huge for their GC.

Great sprint by AKA to take a podium. A stage win here would have been better than the couple of minor places, but when you play the sprint lottery, you can't look a gift horse in the mouth. We don't leave here completely empty handed now, even if objectively it will be a poor race for us compared to the competition.

Peak not getting it right here after stage 1, which is fine, as Valter is our main man here. Thus, this stage 6 is key for his overall race. Few gaps again, and it will be a disappointing GC similar to Portugal. If he can do a good stage with gaps, it can hopefully be his first nice race result for us. |

Sucks how bad Groves is, with backups absolutely not mattering at all. Should've left him to Assa and get Abdul Halil instead. No, of course I wouldn't, as I dislike unbalanced riders, but at least he's delivering big from time to time. Congrats.

We survived the day without any gaps, that's what matters. When writing this I realized we have Marin here, but another weak sprint and just outside of top-10 for him sadly. Guess we still need to find the right startlist for him. Congratulations Sykkel!

Terrible race for us so far; Banaszek is trying, but the whole team losing 1'20 during stage 3 and 47 seconds during stage 4 is bad. Hopefully Trakhov, Strakhov and Tikhonin can do something at the penultimate stage. As always very nice reports Ulrich Ulriksen!

Ouch. Errazkin not making that split surely hurts, that's a potential Top 10 gone. But thanks to pretty big gaps and a short TT, it could still be a Top 20 for both Errazkin and Groves, plus Top 30 for Küng and 1-2 more Top 50 spots.
So while we have absolutely zero notable stage results - which is disappointing in particular by Groves who was the man to deliver here - we at least get some GC depth. Nothing spectacular, but likely enough to reach our points target. And I guess we might be able to win the team standings vs. Gazelle, or at least finish 2nd, so that's minor points as well. GC fine, stages not.
At least Setiawa tried today, and 10th in KoM is worth a point. By the way, Groves not even in the Top 10 of points shows just how bad he was, but I guess others can also complain about their sprinters.
Congrats once again to Aker; no matter the race, you're just unstoppable. I guess 1st and 2nd in the GC are gone, but whether these 8" between Valter and Yates are enough might come down to how much the prologue stat matters...
Thanks for the report!

Team's literally just punting this race. Sulvaran failed to get in the break and Skjelmose way out of position. Let's go home.
