Riga - Jurmala GP - Discussions
Imladrik
The Riga - Jurmala GP is a straight 190 km flattish classic, which should come to a mass sprint, without that much difficulty helping for a late attack. This year will be the 6th edition of the race.

Last winners

2022Bryan Coquard (ELCO - ABEA)
2021Matti Manninen (Los Pollos Hermanos)
2020Jacopo Guarnieri (Bakkafrost)
2019Jacopo Guarnieri (Delvaux)
2018Ben Swift (Aegon – Lavazza)

The two former winners, Bryan Coquard and Matti Manninen, are back to try and join Jacopo Guarnieri at the top of the palmarès. The former is not in his best year and has to bring every points possible to his team. Los Pollos Hermanos seem well on their race for promotion, but won’t frown at more points for the title.

In addition to the two already named, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/rab.png Grosu and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/fas.png Groenewegen are the favorites here, in an important race for their team, respectively fighting to stay in the PT and to go back there. There’s a handful of very good sprinters here, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Halvorsen or pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kanter bringing excellent physical condition.

Late attackers

A late attack always is a possibility, furthermore on such a long and tiring race. Those are some of the riders who could be expected to try something.

Thanks for the preview! If we want to push towards the top 5-6 we need a miracle here from Rowe and Dzama!

I have a strange feeling that Max Kanter will take this one though.

cunego59
It is rather unlikely that Silvestre does anything significant here, but then again, he's pulled a rabbit or two out of his hat this season already, so why not again? Anything better than ~15th here should be considered a success, anything significantly better would be a big boon in the promotion race. Would love a little bit of depth from the likes of Okbamariam, Teggart or Hadi, but so far this season that's rarely been the case.

Would love to see Coquard do well here. Good luck everyone, and thanks for the nice preview!

Coquard and Grosu top the favorites list? Wide open race.

Honestly a slightly weaker field than I was expecting. We got beaten by a bunch of rouleurs last year though, so we can't really count on that helping us.

Fingers crosses for a good result! Top 10 would be nice just to keep pace.

Really need Groenewegen to shine here.

His season is about to be over then. So a last shot for big scoring to push us back into promotion spots.

Ollfardh
It would be fitting a Bonifazio fail would put the final nail in the coffin of our promotion fight.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

A key race for us, seeing it is kind of a bonus race in the fight for the PT title. A good result here from Kragh, and we will put pressure on the other teams before we go to Balkans and ToNE.

We've done pretty well this season in the flat classics with our rouleur lineup, and even better with Wisniowski also joining the fun. He's not here, though, which hopefully makes it easier for the AI to prioritize Kragh, and let him go for a result here, be it a late attack or a top 10 in the sprint. Fingers crossed!

tastasol
Late attack? Yes, please!

Nemolito
Top-15 for Manninen would break the 1.000 points barrier for him again in his last race of the season, but it would be great to see him get into the top-5 one more time to end the season. Won't be easy with this competition and the (I think) slightly better sprints results from the AI in classics, so we'll see where we finish.

Thank you for the nice preview, good luck to everyone!

Horrendous result from AKA, almost outside the top 50. Luckily the last rankings update was positive because oof.

I have a similar feeling about Silvestre, though arguably 36th - while not great - is within the span of reasonable outcomes in such a strong field, and with how tough the race turned out to be. Same for having only one more rider in the Top 100.

It's going to be interesting if this result brings Lierse back into close promotion contention. Bonifazio is a very funny rider, that much at least can't be denied, even if it's to the detriment of Ollfardh's mental health Pfft

Happy to see Coquard do something big, congrats SotD! And thanks of course for the nice report, Imladrik.

Nemolito
Manninen sixth is definitely decent, also with Peruvians Ruiz and Quispe scoring some nice bonus points. Happy to see Coquard take the win. Thank you for the nice report, Imladrik Smile

alexkr00
Not a good result from Grosu, but at least we get some points. And any point is good at the moment.

Good to see Coquard take the win though I'm not sure how much this helps ELCO at this point.

Seems like we tried our best getting something out of it. 12th is certainly decent for Pedersen given it was a mass sprint, so we'll take those points. And good to see the team functioning well.

A good win for Coquard, at last ypu'd probably say. Think it will be too little, too late, but it could give some hope at least if he does something similar in Moscow.

Thanks for the report, Imladrik!

SotD
Finally a good result. Have had VERY little succes since the fluke Giro result from Giannoutsos. From being projected 5-600 points over relegation, to being projected 500 points below.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys. Must admit, this season has been rough, and demotivating - So it means a lot.
