Rumours say Jumbo will quit sponsoring the team after the 2024 season, After the scandal of Frits van Eerd, who definitely left the Jumbo company now, and the death of his father in december, the company is re-evaluating their sports sponsoring. They already quit some of their sponsoring in motorsports and now they might step back as title sponsor from the cycling team.

 It's officially happening. The greatest sprinter of all time is retiring at the end of the 2023 season. A genuinely sad moment for me, if inevitable. A legend of the sport, and i'm just praying he can go out on a major record breaking high.

I was never a Cav fan, until his comeback. He was a legend and had been riddled with illnesses and bad luck for so long. He had no reason to come back and keep fighting like he did, and he still went for it. I'll never disrespect him again after that.

Maybe not the greatest (Van Looy? Maertens?), but definitely the fastest. He'll be missed.
I'm not sure Merckx' record should be beaten this summer, but I won't dislike him for it if he does it.

Tuned in to watch today's stage and saw this in the frontpage of l'Équipe. Quite shocked too, Bardet was talking about a fall yesterday, but then nobody knew how grave it was.

We always know better in hindsight... Fact is that this stage - or at least the final part - was ridden exactly like this multiple times before. According to Sven Montgomery, former pro and nowadays cycling expert on Swiss TV, it was the 14th time already that this downhill was done. Nothing new or fancy.
It isn't a particularly difficult or dangerous descent, the roads are good and they were dry. I've seen tons of Giro/TdF descents that were far trickier, and on bad roads.
As much as I hate the outcome, and as much as it hurts - it looks like Gino just made a mistake at the wrong time and then had a ton of awful luck.
I guess if downhills should be made more secure, they'd have to be neutralized in some way. Just avoiding downhill finishes wouldn't be enough imho, as crashes can happen anywhere, anytime. Sadly

I don't know what you think, IMO the remainder of the tour should be canceled and the results declared null and void. Anything else would be disrespectful. This tragedy was 100% avoidable, but the organizers were careless.

I know, I like the thrill of a sharp descend. I loved guys like Savoldelli and Nibali back in the days. But the last few years rider safety has become much more important. Stages are being shortened or cancelled because of the weather, something that was unheard of 10 years ago. Riders stop racing if they think certain finishes are unsafe, like in Schaal Sels a few years ago. A lot of riders voiced their opinion right after the stage, but then the damage was already done of course.
Bjorg Lambrecht was a stupid crash that could never be avoided. But this felt different. I still don't what to think of it. Just sadness.

imo putting this downhill section at the end of the stage or in the middle make no difference (seeing Pidcock at Galibier for example)...Albula has a super fast road with apparently low risks...it's normal that they were going almost 100km/h, and the fate was bad in that moment.
As said before, I remember many times this finish in TdS in past editions, and never heard a rider hails against it until now (other riders still disagree it's a dangerous road).
Let's see if Magnus Sheffield will be able to tell what happened.
