That jersey is so so nice - lovely work by the_hoyle! Interesting team set-up with the two cobblers - if only there was another team last year who wanted Pedersen and right now has no cobbled leader... A lot of riders to really like outside of the top two who I both have stated my love for a lot I guess Quite a few changed but always glad to see some of the fixtures of your team stay the same such as Nesset and Korsaeth

Flying start to the season
With a good finish to the season, we managed to stay well clear of the relegation zone last season. This year we wanted to start good to avoid a similar situation, and the guys came flying out of the blocks.
Tour of Tasmania
Stage 1:
17th - Nils Eekhoff s.t.
Low expectations for the opening stage. We finished with our guys well inside the peloton and with our rookie Eekhoff showing that he could be useful in flat stages to come.
Stage 2:
19th - Benjamin Brkic + 43
The hilly stage. Another new guy, Benjamin Brkic showed himself as a good allrounder, with four more riders in the big group 1'34 behind stage winner Taylor Phinney.
Stage 3:
1st - Mads Würtz
Our TT king crushed the 19k long ITT, winning 15 seconds ahead of Yoann Paillot.
GC:
13th - Mads Würtz + 1'03
18th - Benjamin Brkic + 1'29
Points:
2nd/3rd: Mads Würtz
U25:
4th: Benjamin Brkic + 1'07
Points:
Mads Würtz - 114 points
Benjamin Brkic - 41 points
Ingvar Omarsson - 15 points
Gonzalo Serrano - 5 points
Jonathan Lastra - 5 points
Niklas Larsen - 5 points
Nils Eekhoff - 5 points
Truls Engen Korsaeth - 5 points
Total: 195 points
Tour of Qatar
Stage 1:
1st Søren Kragh Andersen
8th Mads Würtz + 11
This year the Tour of Qatar started with a short ITT/prologue, and our Danes kept delivering. First win of the season for Würtz, who also took the GC lead and the lead in the points classification.
Stage 2:
23rd - Niklas Larsen s.t.
We hoped to keep the lead in the GC, but Fernando Gaviria (Isostar) just managed to get himself ahead of Kragh Andersen due to bonus seconds.
Stage 3:
6th - Mads Pedersen s.t.
Pedersen had a quiet season last season, but he started more promising this year. A sign of what to come?
Stage 4:
1st - Mads Pedersen
It was definitively a sign! Pedersen timed his sprint perfectly and took our first non-ITT win of the year. A win we thought wouldn't be possible in such a strong field as Qatar, but with a bit of luck and good timing, we got a surprise win.
Stage 5:
13th - Mads Pedersen s.t.
A more expected result. Before the last stage we had Kragh Andersen in 6th place in GC.
Stage 6:
18th - Mads Pedersen s.t.
...
73th - Søren Kragh Andersen + 1'36
A puncture for Kragh Andersen turned out costly, but all in all we have to be happy with the race.
GC:
18th - Mads Würtz +34
22th - Mads Pedersen + 37
Team Classification:
1st: Grieg-Maersk
Points:
Søren Kragh Andersen - 79 points
Mads Pedersen - 77 points
Mads Würtz - 42 points
Niklas Larsen - 17 points
Truls Engen Korsaeth - 10 points
Jo Kogstad Ringheim - 5 points
Erik Nordsaeter Resell - 5 points
Arturs Belevics - 5 points
Total: 240 points
Franceville Classique
Last race of the month, and what a race it was. We didn't really get much out of the race last year, but this time around we really delivered. Towards the end we attacked with one rider after the other, eventually getting Wisniowski ahead together with Sam Bewley and Joeri Stallaert. In the sprint Bewley won ahead of Stallaert and Wisniowski.
Ignore those gapped riders
Behind Pedersen won the sprint for 4th place, while Laporte and Ringheim followed in 8th and 9th place.
Points:
Lukasz Wisniowski - 100 points
Mads Pedersen - 90 points
Christophe Laporte - 50 points
Jo Kogstad Ringheim - 40 points
Nejc Kosic - 6 points
Erik Nordsaeter Resell - 2 points
Søren Kragh Andersen - 0 points
Nils Eekhoff - 0 points
Total: 288 points
January total: 723 points
Copenhagen-Malmo TTT
We won the this race last year, but didn't really think we could be amongst the top teams this year. But the guys did a great race, eventually finishing 3rd, with the win going to EA Vesuvio ahead of Tinkoff.
Points:
Lukasz Wisniowski - 28 points
Niklas Larsen - 28 points
Benjamin Brkic - 28 points
Ingvar Omarsson - 28 points
Arturs Belevics - 28 points
Mads Würtz - 0 points
Søren Kragh Andersen - 0 points
Truls Engen Korsaeth - 0 points
Total: 140 points
Tirreno-Adriatico
Our riders:
Jo Kogstad Ringheim
Søren Kragh Andersen
Trond HÃ¥kon Trondsen
Jonathan Lastra
Jonas Vingegaard
Niklas Larsen
Fingers crossed for a good prologue/ITT! We don't have big hopes here, but a debut for Vingegaard and Trondsen. Hopefully they can show themselves.
Paris-Nice
Our riders:
Mads Würtz
Benjamin Brkic
Erik Nordsaeter Resell
Ingvar Omarsson
Truls Engen Korsaeth
Arturs Belevics
Another race where the ITTs will be the most imporant. We hope to have Würtz challenging for two stage wins and possibly some decent GC results by him, Brkic and Omarsson.
Classique du Grand-Duché
The last race in the triple header, a triple that's never really been our favourite.
Our riders:
Gonzalo Serrano
Sigurd Nesset
Christophe Laporte
Nejc Kosic
Gunnar Dahl-Olsen
Nils Eekhoff
We hope to have Serrano hanging on well and getting himself in the top 20 or so. This will be his first race as a leader after he got maxed.
Milano-Sanremo
The first monument of the season! We came really, really close to the win last year with Kragh Andersen. We will again be hoping for a well timed attack, and are taking the following riders:
Lukasz Wisniowski
Mads Pedersen
Gonzalo Serrano
Jo Kogstad Ringheim
Søren Kragh Andersen
Trond HÃ¥kon Trondsen
Christophe Laporte
Niklas Larsen
All in all we're very happy with the start so far. With three wins and some great depth scoring, we couldn't really ask for much more. Pedersen is up to 167 points already, already closing in on the 289 points from last year. He will surely surpass that by a good amount this season, even just with moderate results from the biggest races coming up.

I, Per Mandagsfjord, can reveal the wages for the Grieg-Maersk riders that have extended their contract ahead of the 2022 season:
Rider | New wage | Old wage | Difference | Lukasz Wisniowski | 760 000 € | 700 000 | 60 000 | Mads Pedersen | 600 000 € | 800 000 | -200 000 | Mads Würtz | 600 000 € | 650 000 | -50 000 | Jo Kogstad Ringheim | 125 000 € | 110 000 | 15 000 | Soren Kragh Andersen | 125 000 € | 115 000 | 10 000 | Sigurd Nesset | 120 000 € | 150 000 | -30 000 | Jonas Vingegaard | 105 000 € | 50 000 | 55 000 | Benjamin Brkic | 70 000 € | 50 000 | 20 000 | Trond Hakon Trondsen | 65 000 € | 65 000 | 0 | Jonathan Lastra | 60 000 € | 65 000 | -5 000 | Christophe Laporte | 55 000 € | 67 000 | -12 000 | Andreas Stokbro | 50 000 € | 50 000 | 0 | Nejc Kosic | 50 000 € | 50 000 | 0 | Gunnar Dahl-Olsen | 50 000 € | 50 000 | 0 | Nils Eekhoff | 50 000 € | 50 000 | 0 | Truls Engen Korsaeth | 50 000 € | 50 000 | 0 |
At the same time, I can tell that the management are preparing for big changes this off season. The management saw last year that Mads Pedersen had to step into a domestique role for Wisniowski. While the management and Wisniowski is said to have a great relationship, it'x expected that the team will start to shift their focus towards building Mads Pedersen as the next big cobbles star. We therefore expect the management to be focussing on getting in the necessary funds to send the top riders to some training camps ahead of the season.
It's even believed that the management views Søren Kragh as a rider that could get the opportunity to find a new home to ensure the best possible development for the other big Scandinavian stars on the team. As with Wisniowski, Kragh and the management have a very good relationship, and my sources tell me that both of them will only be available if the possible new teams is deemed like a right fit to get the most out of the riders.
For myself and for MagazineBike,
Per Mandagsfjord

Good to see Mandagsfjord at work!
I can only second knockout. Those two + Würtz have been «lifelong» targets. Fingers crossed we can find an agreement this transfer season |

We here at Grieg-Maersk have had an amazing time with the ManGame for a decade. Now the time unfortunately has come to say a last goodbye.
The MG have been a super cool experience. We have taken the ladder from CT, PCT, PT, PCT and PT and it's given me extremely much joy. Unfortunately I haven't managed to keep up with the game as much as I would have wanted this year and I've lost some of the passion I had for the game. While we of course would have loved to close of the season with Madsx2 taking the Rainbow, we can look back at one of our best seasons as a team.
With victories in Sanremo and RvV, we completed the triple of the my three favorite monuments. Wisniowski won Roubaix for us a couple of years back and he will also always be remembered as the man who brought the Rainbow jersey to our team.
We've had legends like Boasson Hagen being a record PCT scorer when he was at his peak, we've tried the GC route with Taylor Phinney one year, and really finding out that it wasn't quite our thing. The team biggest legend is of course Michael Olsson. In 2013 he won the team's first victory when he won the Tour de Bretagne GC. He was a good allrounder, but with his hilly stat of 73 as his highest main stat. To see him winning a stage in Your de France 2018 will for ever be one of our biggest moments.
I thank you all for every good conversation I've had in this game, especially with the likes of ember and bbl, who I've been so closely connected to during a bunch of transfer windows. I hope you at least can get hold of one Mads now.
It's been a blast to be part of the MG for so many years. It's something that I will always cherish, but when I can't be more active, then someone else deserves to get the chance. But who knows, some day I might return.
A big, big thanks to all the guys who have been a part in organizing possibly the best game I've been a part of. SN, roturn, jph, Nemolito, everyone! A big thank you to all the reporters, who have delivered so many exciting stories year after year. And a big thank you to all my fellow managers, who have contributed to making this game what it is.
Au revoir,
tastasol

It looks like the bad news just keep coming these days in terms of dropping out of the game. Sad to see you go.
I definitely wouldn't count your presence this year as inactive, but if you did lose the passion for the game I guess that's what made you take this decision rather than feeling like you were not active enough.
Hopefully you'll eventually come back to the game and it will be sooner rather than later!

No way. No fucking way.
It sounds sappy as hell, but you and your team were legitimately like our big brother for a decade. I absolutely loved your setup, and you were always so great to work with every transfer season. The game will not be the same without you and your team.
I wish you would reconsider, as the game needs you even if your activity is a bit lower, but of course I respect your decision to do what's right in your own life. Best of luck with everything the future has for you, and don't be a stranger!

That Michael Olsson TDF stage win was a very fun one to report and what made it even better was your reaction after the stage - I seem to remember you saying something about getting very excited reading it while in the press room at Gent-Wevelgem or something And of course you sharing the fact you did there of him being your team's first ever race winner was something I wish I knew while reporting the stage, such a cool story.
We didn't come across each other all too often in transfers discussions but always enjoyed it when we did and a huge admirer of you and your team from afar. Congratulations on your awesome MG career and thank you for being an amazing part of this game and community. Glad you got some truly special moments in your final year

That’s a real shame, I’ve always had a soft spot for Grieg. I totally understand losing your motivation or passion, but the game (and the rest of us managers) would always benefit from having you hanging around, even if you maybe don’t have as much time to commit to it. If this really is it for you in the MG, all the best for you in the future and hopefully you re-appear again at some point! Thank you for keeping me up in my first PT season by selling me Bakelandts for an absolute bargain, he went on to win our first ever monument and scored a bucket load of points for us which I’ve always remembered.
All the best mate.

As a Dane following your team has always been a pleasure, even if the two of us generally speaking didn't interact much during the transfer season.
I will echo what the others have said, that if it's because you feel like you don't deserve to be in PT because of less activity then I will say that you are wrong, you earned the spot and I'd say you have had an activity level that isn't bad in any way!

Love your focus, love your history, and love your team, as have been shown in several transfer seasons. Will miss the talks with you about the MG in general, that's for sure.
Must admit I hope this isn't the last we'll see of you in the MG, but I can only respect your decision. |
