Welcome to the 4th edition of the Hanko Classic. The Finnish sprinter's classic is a relatively young race on the MG calendar, but the same course is also used on one of the stages of the Baltic Chain Tour. With 201 km in length it's very flat and has always provided us with a sprint finish. Stamina isn't an issue given how well protected the sprinters are for the majority of the race. So expect a battle between the fast men.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
Sprinter | FL | RS | SP | AC | Leadout | FL | RS | SP | AC | Cullaigh | 73 | 70 | 80 | 81 | Bar | 76 | 70 | 76 | 74 | Silvestre | 78 | 71 | 80 | 81 | Hadi | 68 | 70 | 74 | 71 | Bonifazio | 79 | 75 | 80 | 80 | Sajnok | 72 | 74 | 72 | 71 | Manninen | 74 | 75 | 81 | 80 | Ruiz | 74 | 68 | 71 | 72 | Guarnieri | 74 | 73 | 80 | 78 | Breen | 77 | 72 | 73 | 72 | Van Asbroeck | 75 | 72 | 80 | 78 | Jans | 76 | 73 | 74 | 74 | Selig | 71 | 68 | 79 | 81 | Abraha | 72 | 71 | 74 | 72 | Ewan | 75 | 71 | 83 | 81 | Major | 74 | 70 | 77 | 78 | Kennaugh | 77 | 71 | 82 | 81 | Kennett | 75 | 76 | 79 | 78 | Jakobsen | 74 | 73 | 80 | 80 | Ovsyannikov | 72 | 72 | 77 | 76 | Vesely | 73 | 68 | 81 | 80 | Hodeg | 72 | 74 | 79 | 78 | Matthews | 76 | 67 | 79 | 79 | Van Poppel | 74 | 70 | 75 | 77 | Bouhanni | 74 | 69 | 80 | 77 | Colbrelli | 74 | 72 | 79 | 75 | Guerao | 73 | 63 | 82 | 75 | Garcia Cortina | 76 | 72 | 77 | 76 | Vanderbiest | 73 | 67 | 81 | 75 | Krieger | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 |
Young Cullaigh is very fast sprinter, well supported by possible lead out Bar. Silvestre is as fast as the Brit, but also a much stronger rider and he actually has a potential leadout with him. Bonifazio is another strong sprinter, but we'll see if Sajnok gives him a hand or he'll have to fend for himself. The same goes for the home favourite Manninen. The only former race winner Guarnieri has good support, but the aging sprinter is not what he used to be and his team does have other options. Van Asbroeck on the other hand will want to deliver a big result for Philips and has good help in the form of Jans.
Selig is a smaller name in this field, but the CT sprinter has the acceleration to upset the others. Then we get onto the big lead out guys. Ewan is the #1 PCT sprinter, but will Major ruin his chances? The exact same can be said for Kennaugh, Jakobsen and Vesely. The final sprinters here are Matthews, Bouhanni, Guerao and Vanderbiest. They could all be called more as underdogs here, but their setups might also not give them any better chance of success.
| FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | FT | Veyhe | 80 | 66 | 71 | 56 | 78 | 80 | Brockhoff | 79 | 74 | 76 | 62 | 73 | 64 | Sbaragli | 76 | 76 | 70 | 77 | 78 | 58 | Kuznetsov | 76 | 75 | 73 | 72 | 75 | 76 | Konychev | 77 | 74 | 74 | 73 | 71 | 73 | Naesen | 75 | 77 | 73 | 77 | 76 | 64 | Jans | 76 | 74 | 73 | 74 | 74 | 68 | Breen | 77 | 72 | 72 | 73 | 72 | 74 | Van der Haar | 77 | 70 | 72 | 72 | 70 | 76 |
While we think the race will finish in a bunch sprint and that is what history has shown us. There are still some very strong rouleurs here that will hope to suprise the sprint trains. Assa Abloy bring a real army of them and if they don't fully commit to their sprinter they could certainly influence the race with late attacks. Brockhoff is another very powerful flat beast that could be dangerous given the opportunity. The Strava duo along with Naesen have some sprinting ability and could get the freedom given their from CT teams.

Top 5 is the goal as it is for every Silvestre classic and definetely possible in this field. The hope is always for a bit more, but of course less is also possible in sprints. Looking forward to the race either way Thanks for the preview!

Sadly the pressure is on for Bonifazio, but he's facing a tough field.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

8th would be a good result. Harsh on Major who's actually given some very good leadouts to Ewan this year, just that sprint AI is f*cked regardless of who we send. We'll take the low top 10, add it to our evidence for Ewans renewal to somehow fit into a CT wage cap.

So hard to predict this one I'm hoping Vanderbiest can place himself in the top 15.

Jakobsen has had a pretty good time of it against PCT opposition so far so hopefully that can continue.
Either we provide the best lead-out seen this season or I don't really want a lead-out
Good luck to all! Hopefully one of the top guys takes it

If I had known AKA would be such a beast this year, I might have come. It's Scandinavian and certainly suits him as it's more intensive in resistance and flat than stamina.
With that said, you see the startlist and I remember why I avoid sprinter's classics these days. AKA is liked by PCM 20 and might have done well, but the fields are just so incredibly stacked that it's impossible for everyone to sprint. Not much more than luck separating a win from 27th. I've had great luck this year, but in planning I'm still hesitant to expect it. So we stayed home.
Wonder if we'll get any late attacks.

And he delivers! I feared he might have been in the wind a bit too early, but he held on brilliantly! Nice to see him win on home soil after the team working all day. Quispe with some minor points in ninteenth is decent. Ewan on the podium as well is also good to see, whereas Vesely falling back so heavily in the final meters is a shame for Minions, who really deserve some luck/good results in the upcoming races imo.
Thanks for the great sprint report, redordead!

Another 11th place and some minor points isn't good enough in this field. Was hoping for better from TvA.
Congrats Nemo and thanks for the report red

Could have been worse, like not sprinting at all, but these kind of results get us nowhere.
Thanks for the report redordead and onnittelut Manninen ja Nemolito

once again it was proved that it was a mistake to bet again on the sprinters for this season.
My team has been unable to get good results in these types of races despite having the right riders.
Thanks for the report and congrats to Nemolito.

We don't make a train, for some reason, and get our best sprint classic result of the year! Shows to me again how much RES matters and must be properly acounted for come renewals/new OVL.
Maninen i don't missing out to

Mission accomplished I'd say not enough to keep us on promotion pace I think, but that still isn't too heavily on my mind. Pressure's off, just enjoying what this season gives us. Congrats Nemo, Manninen starts to pay off after all! And good job by Ewan, too!

It was bound to happen eventually that Jakobsen wouldn't exceed expectations in a PCT quality race and this was the one. We take a handful of points and walk away from this.
Really great to see Manninen and Ewan do well given they are both quality riders who should be performing well! Congrats to the respective Managers.
Thank you for another great report!

Cullaigh was a bit too far back and paid for it in the end. Still I think 10th is an acceptable result but I always hope for better.
