I guess this race needs sponsorship from Specsavers
Not looking at the actual result because what the fruit but Kalaba with a very good sprint against strong opposition. Vesely should take notes.
Thanks redordead for the report!

Uff eislers outside the top 70 as a 3rd/4th favourite. tough start, first three wasted leader race days of the season.

That’s so rough, gotta feel for Aegon and Minions here.

Congrats to roturn, uhmmm, SotD!
Decent result for Bertilsson, like his look in that nice Swedish NC jersey.

Strong start for Zwift. First attack of the PT season produces the KoM and Youth jersey for the time being. Yates active in the sprint is nice to see as well.

I hope this was a one-off so we don’t get these kind of results all the time. I won’t remember seeing it before although there was a photofinish in one of the Continental Championships (I think) where the win was also given to the sprinter I would have Said finished 2nd. That one was very close though. This one seemed very weird, as you can’t even argue that the in game Line was placed different to the visable one.
Well I remember (and will never forget!) Yuri Trofimov being robbed of his world championship victory in 2014.
Will try to remember it when putting together the sponsorkits for next season.
About the race; good to see Kanerva trying to get in the BotD, but more important, just happy the season got started -> thank you for the report redordead!

Nothing lost on stage 1, hoping Pluchkin can limit his losses on stage 2 as well, whilst it being decently selective of course to try and secure a solid GC finish in the time trial

Well, a weird 3rd place for Enger is obviously a nice result and probably the best, what we can get here this year without Bobridge. Christensen was our surprising breakaway achiever a few months ago, glad he at least tried again. A breakaway appearance in the second stage must be our remaining goal for this race and we should have a few possible threats for that task.
Thanks to the reports for kicking off the season, btw! I may help with reporting at some point, but can't really promise a date for this.

Congrats on the victory sotd, no matter how strange that looks :-p
My team is here just for stage 2, so will be interesting to see how that goes. Timetrials is no good anyway this year .-p

Yup, Phinney got this.
Very happy with the performance from Brkic. Nothing special from Würtz, but quite solid through the stage. Hopefully he can show himself tomorrow and climb up in the GC.

AI off to a horrible start, first that weird finish and now Waeytens making the top 10 in a PT race.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I guess I should have brought Van Niekerk for support and minor U25 points but very good result. Pretty much as hoped for us. Coquard snatching enough points to get 5 more + a solid shot at 2nd points. With all points he should be on something like 90 points for 3 RD’s.
Lecuisinier with a good stage bagging some minor points and then a GC top 10 seems likely with top 5 being possible on a good day. If he has a good day he might get a points top 10 aswell.
Will be very interesting as I also have Vlatos just Rolling in waiting for tomorrow.
Depth wise I am dissapointed though. We have some solid overall riders who did nothing at all. But those are mostly random it seems.
Big start for Isostar, but we won’t allow them to move that far ahead already which is nice.

Bad breakaway tactics by Evonik and bad positioning by Taaramae for most of the final but a quite decent result in the end for him. Mostly seeing gaps towards Würtz, Vlatos, Paillot, Cattaneo, Powless, Dennis, Oliveira is pleasing and should assure that we walk away with a good GC result.
Phinney getting a stage win and bonus seconds of course is perfect for him and should seal the race. Tomorrow it seems like it's gotta be Wirtgen vs Tenorio vs Taaramae for 2nd with Leucuisinier, Pluchkin, Goos, Sepulveda and Dlamini (how did he get into a position to finish top 10 GC?) all within beating distance for the podium - though needing a good day.
Hoped to have at least Tvetcov a bit further up the pecking order but he's in the 25th - 33rd place group right now and should have a decent shot at defending a top 30 result at least. Waeytens, Guerreiro, Bardet, Prevar, CF Hagen, Villela and Coquard could all be possible overtakes while the big question mark is how many of that Group Würtz could overtake him. Würtz himself is obviously a lock to do so while there lots of 73-77 TT guys there that could potentially overtake too. How many of those is the crucial question. The other big Evonik question is whether Becis could potentially even climb into the top 50. 69tt for him, if he can perform like a 72tt guy, he could grab those valuable 5 extra points.
Congrats to Croatia and Scorchio who seem like the two big winners of todays stage! |

Guys I know its depressing to probably not get a result but could Bazhkou at least not completely give up and try stay with his weaker domestiques to be within two minutes? Also no breakaways is a shame, hope that's not how the AI will be for us going forward since its our best option at most races.
Congrats Croatia, awesome to get the road stage win as well as tomorrow probably, will be a huge race for Phinney to start the year!

The finish line shot was already looking promising, so then seeing the results exceeded expectations - great by Wirtgen and Goos to make that selection and now looking good for GC Top 10s even on a bad TT day, and within reach of much more on a good day.

Great ride by Taylor and also by the full team to support him. We made the right decision focussing on uphill domestiques and that seemed to do well even if we sacrifice some GC positions with only smaller gaps given. Phinney did what we needed, very good run. Also I really liked the report, good job!

In the end the stronger riders were too strong in the end. No minor GC points this way with any of my TT riders and neither the mediocre puncheurs.
Had hoped to see Barbin a bit further up but it's just one of 1-2-3 races, where he has such free role, not having picked him up for many points.
Hoping to have at least one of mine now on a very good daily form getting into stage points. |

Hopeless GC result, as to be expected. At least we tried, what he had to try: breakaway. A pity that Baily missed the KoM classification though.

Hagen in P2 shows me he still is a very competent puncheur, so I can look forward to the races where it matters. Uran losing minutes is slightly more worrying but I can guess it's due to the presence of Hagen, which won't be the case in the actual races.
New game, same old Phinney...
