With the voting for the World Championship as it is, and with only one vote cast in the last two days, it has been decided to stop the previous voting and announce the results effective as of now:
Hill - 15 votes
Mountain - 8 votes
Flat - 6 votes
Cobbles - 2 votes
It is now decided that this season's World Championships will be held on a hilly profile.
Please vote for your choice in the Poll above, to determine the specific hilly profile we'll be racing in.
Deadline: 19th June, 23:59:59, Daily time.

Does anyone have the PCM file for this year's WC in Leuven already? It's a bit like Brabantse Pijl and I think it would be a good option.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Might be closer to a "tough flat" route than a "easier hill" one, and maybe therefore best to do it next year or whenever it's flat next, but since I love it so much and it is very possible for a puncheur to win, here is what New York is like:
Spoiler Full Gallery of the amazing graphical work
None of these hills are proper walls really, highest gradient I saw was a 7.6%.
Obviously don't want to give too much away in terms of what results happen but it's something for sprinters and strongmen, leaning towards the former with reduced bunch sprints after aggressive races the usual outcome. I have, though, seen late attackers play beautiful tactics to spring out of the attacks (as in PCM18 the WC AI is vastly improved to see attacks from further out as in real life, and the changed AI in general sees strongmen attack this kind of profile) and reduced group sprints as well in my experience testing this stage with real and MG databases. There is plenty of attacking and tactical play from the tough sprinters, roleurs, puncheurs, classics riders and strongmen, selection over the constant bumps, whilst the sprinters try and navigate the action to be there in the final kilometre. Every playthrough is entertaining in my experience. It offers chances to a wider range of rider than any previous profile I've seen us go for, and yet it may also offer up the most deserving winner.
A very interesting profile which offers something to the strongmen and will make a sprinter truly earn his rainbow jersey by being more than means this will be one of the best possible races we can have on top of being one of the most detailed and graphically stunning PCM stages in existence
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Pretty cool profile jandal! Always exciting to see landmarks on a cycling route that I've actually been to. In fact, it looks like it passes through the neighborhood I'll be moving to in a few months.
Not sure I'm partial to any exact type of stage for this WC. As always, I don't have anyone with a shot anyway. Just depends on the type of riders we want to be there at the finish.

My vote is for a race for the puncheurs (rather than sprinters) since the last hilly one was ruined by crashes, which took out like 50% of the favourites including Kinoshita on home soil. We already had a hilly flat WC two years ago, that Bewley won.
Also the last hilly one had a descent/flat finish, so I think a hill finish would be better personally. Descents and flat finishes on hilly stages are rarely as good as we think it's going to be on PCM 18, with the first stage of Balkans being a prime example. It usually just ends in the peloton not doing any work and a breakaway or late attacker winning, even though the peloton has the energy to chase, but just choses not to.

This, +1
I'm also very much against the New York route as flatter route, as one of the two flatter races was already in North America.
It feels very much time for an incredibly regular WC route with either an uphill finish or final climb in the final ~5km.

I liked stage 4 of the Tour of Britain that I just reported. 204 km, action, really tough near the end and there will definitely be a selection, and the finish is (very slightly) uphill as well, although some people would even say it's a flat finish.

I'd say a WC needs to be 250kms, still hoping someone produces a Leuven file
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Thanks to Abhi's post in RTG. Long enough, hilly and looks quite tough with no rest phases, flat finish. Time for you guys to propose some routes

5 more days to get your votes in. It's still close!
Some route suggestions would also be welcome.

The great thing about choosing a traditional worlds is there are many options. Also they are easy to make and moidfy. Four suggestions below, all hill rated, covering 4 continents. I know the zcts is available for all of these so you could modify the finish to be flat or on the climb if needed (also these are shown in 20 but all available for 18).
I am not arguing for any of these but thought I would throw some ideas out.
I agree the NY course might not be hard enough but Elias' SF is also beautifully done if we want to go with a different great American city.

Unfortunately a (light) cobble race, but I like it!

Ah yes, there's a few cobbed climbs, but we could set them all to 1 star?

Here are the results after an extremely close vote:
Tough stage hill top finish | 33% | [14 Votes] | Tough stage flat finish | 31% | [13 Votes] | Easy stage hill top finish | 19% | [8 Votes] | Easy stage flat finish | 17% | [7 Votes] |
We will be having the 2020 World Championships on a hard course with a Hill Top Finish. Thank you to everyone who cast their vote.
Stay tuned for the final route vote and the rider nominations. Both should start some time this week.
