I definitely found it worth the investment.

I had a wheel on trainer for a few years, but didn't use it too much. Went for the Kickr Core last October and have used it a lot. And indeed, it's quite good for noise - my fans are probably louder!

After a couple of short Zwift rides, I can say the bike feels fantastic when I get settled into a rhythm. Extremely happy I finally decided to make this purchase. Now the goal is to just get into a routine and keep pedaling.

Not getting much motivation from watching the Zwift game graphics but I turned on the Vuelta today and watched that while I rode. That helped a lot more.

Group rides initially, and now races, are the parts of Zwift that I've enjoyed the most.

For solo riding, it's the collectionist attitude of completing different route badges that has been the most motivating. Especially with linking to Strava and using the Zwift Insider leaderboards on VeloViewer.

But yes, watching TV - especially if it is a bike race - works too!

Merry Christmas everybody!

I know 2020 has been rough for everyone, but I just want to thank the PCM community for keep me sane during this crazy year. Writing story reports and being involved in the Man-Game gave me some sense of normalcy in the midst of quarantines, lockdowns and leaving my job. It's been a whirlwind, but PCMDaily has always been here for me. So, thank you.

Stay safe and enjoy the holidays! Smile

As good a time as always to get this thread moving a bit, mental health is currently being quite a big issue for me. After some years of successfuly getting back from a depression the last couple months have brought back a lot of resemblence from the past, being away from my gf for already a year, seeing her also fall in a deep depression and not being able to help m uch (thankfully she's getting better too!), still living with my family that brings me constant stress and real issues when it comes to some YT/streaming projects that I've wanted to do last few months that could've released some tension and have a goal which to work for.

Adding to that the responsability of limiting social contact, whilst in college I only had to go 2/3 times every 2 weeks during class period so it really wasn't as much as I needed, currently it's exam period and I got to go out a couple times but it doesn't satisfy the need to get out and interact, with still a month to go to get back to that schedule. Then the disastrous health situation in Portugal, the amount of people who don't give a shit and make it actively worst, the rise of a fascist-like presidental candidate/far-right party leader, everything surounding me feels surreal and it's hard sometimes to get over the tough road I'm going through.

Now the feeling of emptyness, not having yet cycling to write about, not having classes, not being motivated at all for the remaining exam, having ocasional psychological blows to the people I love the most, in some days it's really dificult to do anything, and chores I have to do only add to that stress.

With that said we can only keep resisting, things will get better, more patience is needed. I can be lucky my direct family and I haven't been infected (although symptoms do pop up from time to time, including now), the latter part of the year is something Im really looking forward to and I hope the pandemic doesn't ruin all the plans I have. I believe several more here are having similar psychological difficulties, for sure some have it worst than me too, but if it does of any help to share a bit of my current situation to whoever may be struggling than I consider it good.

Hey there, mate, sorry to hear about your struggles. I can give some advices from my experience. Hopefully you'll find at least some of them useful.

Try to talk to your gf as much as possible, phone calls or skype calls or whatever should be better than text messages. At least for me, saying stuff out loud definitely helps me take the pressure off.

If living with your family gives you too much stress and get in the way of your yt stuff, maybe try to postpone that one for now. You are in a place where you need to do things you enjoy, but if they end up giving you more stress it's definitely better to postpone them for now. Try finding some other fun stuff you could that living with your family wouldn't interfer with.

Very important: stop worrying about things that are out of control. You can't control politics and you can't control how other people deal with the pandemic. Vote for whoever you feel like and do as much as possible for you to stay healthy. What others do, it's up to them and you should not take the responsibility of their actions on your shoulders. Look at what you can improve in yourself, not others bacause that's the only thing you've got control of.

I know now it's not the best time, but going outside even on walks (if you are not a runner or a cyclist) and relax should also help at times to give you a better mood. Just enjoy the walk, maybe listen to music, but don't try to think about anything.

Thanks mate really appreciate it Smile I am focused on some of the points you've mentioned indeed they are great advice, what I really need to control is the upset over what's happening in the country which ends up triggering (and affecting family directly), but yeah one can only hope it'll get better and work on the little things possible!

I can say from first hand experience, exercise, getting outdoors etc. are great for mental health. I can thankfully say I've not had any major mental health issues prior to COVID, but now with lockdown I am definitely feeling the effects sometimes. Not leaving the house for a few days can leave me feeling down (or just weird, I dont really know how to describe it). Getting outside everyday definitely helps me, and getting a physically demanding exercise is something I've found to help a lot too. The "runners high" as it is called here is real and I can feel improvements in my mood almost immediately and usually for the rest of that day.

Another thing I've found is trying to reduce "screen time". Normally Im only in front a screen when Im home for the day after school or work and relaxing. Now basically my whole life is through a screen. Spending some time each day to read, work on a puzzle, exercise etc is also helpful for me, although I admit its quite difficult sometimes.

For me focusing on things one day at at time helps, and just making manageable goals each day. Its often my "lazy days" that I feel the worst. Being able to go to bed thinking "I got what I wanted to get done, or I worked towards it" is a lot better than "I did nothing today". As a student I find most of my time is spent in class (on Zoom), working on projects or getting ready for class, but I like to set a goal of walking a certain number of steps everyday and eating healthier (which is also linked to improved mood) and getting X amount of a project done each day. The important thing isn't to compare yourself to someone else though. If you see someone thats running everyday or something like that you dont need to feel bad about yourself if you only run once a week or even not at all, because maybe that isn't a goal of yours or maybe you need longer to recover etc. In general comparing yourself to others is always going to make you feel worse about yourself because theres always going to be someone better than you at something.

Also, obviously things differ based on where you live, but living in Canada I have more or less stopped watching the news and reading reports of COVID case numbers. I know that seeing there are thousands of active cases in my city isn't going to make me feel any better, but its also not really going to affect me or change how I live (since I stay home as much as possible and wear mask going to the store)

The political stuff is tough to avoid, having lived through 4 years of disastrous leadership in the US I don't have a solution for that except hope. Lots of good advice above, I would just add that there are more kind people in this world than you think. You see that in this community and I think help is there in your physical life if you ask for it.

Indeed they really are thank you both! If there are some more people here struggling for sure some good help can come from here!
