Toupalik really showing great fighting so far this season resulting in a nice 3rd on todays stage.

Unfortunately Zardini lost contact in the end, but still sitting 25th with a bit room to improve. Also Carboni this time with him while VdP followed in the group behind.

Won`t be a very good race for me in the end but this is okay with a support team squad only.

Not a bad stage for us, as Bobridge was the only one to get a gap to Kinoshita again. Have to hope he can gain some solid time back again, and we could be in for a great race. The most important thing is beating Bobridge next stage, to try and secure the points jersey.

Stage 4 and stage 5 were both disappointing for us; not being in the break of the day. Would be great if Chernetskiy can make it into the break during tomorrow's stage and hopefully we can provide Moser a good sprint train for the final stage.

Zardini was dropped pretty early but in the end still climbed 3 spots and must have passed 20-40 riders in the final again. So I guess not ideally placed but still energy to recover.
Similar VdP, who was with him. Unfortunately the finishes are far too tough for later, who though is still doing decent in the top40-50 for minor points.

Carboni in the break was nice to see, even though not the most ideal day to sit there.

Kwiatkowski being very impressive here. Seeing Mohoric, Bobridge behind him shows, that it`s not really because of his mountain stat, but simply him being a great rider even on pure hill races. Wonder if the decision to let him race with Taaramae here and there doesn`t make him underperform with Taaramae being the leader in those, while Kwiatkowski would be the better rider.

Very cool to see Kwiatek so strong here. Love to see that.

Skujins also looked strong and finally some bigger gaps so im somewhat satisfied eventhough i would have hoped to end up 3-4 places higher in GC or with one stage win at some point. In the end its going to be a slightly below par result but one that is still in the acceptable range unless sth unexpected happens on the last stage.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Declerq again failing to make the break, as the only one of those trying to get into it, just sums it up.

In other news, I think it was an oversight to have this finish give as many KoM points as it did.
We should attempt to find and correct those issues wherever possible.

8th obviously looks brillant from Boily, but all depth fucked up on the last stage, so pointwise it wasn’t an improvement - still, if nothing happens in the final stage we come away with a much better GC than expected. Hardly any stagepoints and breakaways unfortunately though... It does suck, however that he lost that time in the final sprint - otherwise he would have been 5th GC which would have been amazing. And a difference of 35 points too...

I guess Nizzolo is our go-to-guy if we should land a stageresult. But I would love to see Aidan on the move...

Nice to see Kwiatkowski getting his stage win. Happy with Ponzi moving up a bit and clawing back some of the ground he lost in the TT. Mid-top 10 is about what we could have expected in this one and I am pleased. Great race Tamijo, it has been very well written and enjoyable.

Last season the pointsdifference between scoring 3rd best and 3rd worst was just 300 points if that is any comfort Smile

And I guess it wouldn't have been an option to send Phinney to either of the GC races anyway with his program being almost given in advance. So would you have scored better with Mohoric possibly in 3rd or so in Grand-Duché and then no one in top 15 here?

The only thing I would have changed was to put Kozhatayev and Polanc here, as I think they are both well suited to fight for a top 30 here, but the former did pretty well in Grand-Duché and saved a bunch of racedays...

I don't think you are looking to do that bad here tbh Smile

I would be significantly more concerned if I was the manager of Indosat with Bakelants sitting in 35th here while they also scored minimum points in Luxembourg. Keizer could do well in Paris-Nice though.

Too bad Lammertink didn't join the breakaway today. The KoM jersey would have been nice.

Kwiatkowski! Grin That couldn't have been any better at all. Absolutely brilliant timing on the final hill, getting Bobridge's wheel and then proving he even had something left to pass him too. Absolutely great!

This obviously also gives confidence for what we did pre-season, investing in him both wage wise and training wise. He definitely proves here he's a man to trust as a true PT leader the next couple of seasons Smile

Getting the stage win, climbing all the way to 2nd in the GC with only a flat stage to go, and also jumping to the KoM classification lead and 2nd in the points classification, is massive considering our season and Taaramäe's struggles in the mountains (that day in East Java). We need someone to step up and bring in the points if a post-decline Taaramäe can't, and Kwiatkowski showing he can is key.

Thank you for all your congratulations on the stage win, that's greatly appreciated. Now fingers are crossed for a calm and predictable final stage Smile

Seeing the other riders making the top 5 and so in East Java, that looked like a race for the climbers, while so far on the hills (Badaling), I'd say Kwiatkowski seems to be allowed to lead/have a free role. Hopefully Kwiatkowski gets the same chance in the other one day races marked as hilly (they're doing LBL and Lombardia together) with Taaramäe in a free role. Judged by Badaling, I fear it will rather be the other way around, with Taaramäe underperforming compared to what could have been done elsewhere with those six race days. They're finally doing Hallstatt together, which I think is more a race for Taaramäe, due to the 50/50 ratio and last season's edition.

Though, based on the season so far, I think you're right one of them will constantly "underscore" in the races they do together, but hopefully that can turn slightly, if both are given the chance and a free role to chase results.

Not really an ideal stage with Gidich and Brändle dropping some positions and considering the small gaps to better positions but in general I can be happy with both of their GC results. I'm hoping for an uneventful last flat stage now where maybe Hsu can show himself one more time and maybe someone of my team joins tithe break

Also agree that the finish shouldn't have had as many KoM points as it did. It's unlucky for Viviani, but to be fair he could've gotten him some more points as well.

Yes of course that was not the intension - could give a longer explanation why this happened, but wont change the fact that it did.

Already fixed for next season - if the stage should be re-used

Wow, a huge collapse here. Really unexpected, and extremely disappointing. Seeing the names ahead of us, it must have been a -5 day, as Kinoshita easily should have been with the 2nd group 16 seconds down. No way Dennis, Goos, Gidich, should be beating him on this kind of stage.

Should have been a Top 5 at the minimum here, with how the race played out, with a shot at a Top 3 on the cards, so to get 11th is quite frustrating.

Hard to overstate how amazingly Dennis performed here. Massive result from him - and the rest of the team too, starting from Oliveira. Really really happy.

He did almost the same in P-N last year, a 6th place, irrc Wink Happy to see him getting an early good result again though. He's a fun rider to have and it's still frustrating to have lost him in off-season. Obviously I'm even more happy that Bobridge (probably) beats him this year Grin

A pity that Howard couldn't get a stage win here, but at least he made the podium twice. It could have been a perfect race, if he did better.

But... Who cares? Grin a GC win for Bobridge, plus a stage and the points competition is simply awesome. Of course this is always something, that one hopes for (in a hilly race with TT kilometers), but obviously it ain't a given thing - especially since last year. So it's probably one of the sweetest victories we ever had. Arising from the ashes of his career, he delivers such a result. Great stuff! Kinda makes up for my stupid Volta Portugal decision with him.. And since it's probably his last big victory for us: thank you for everything, Captain Jack!

Thanks for the quality reports and steady pace. I certainly enjoyed them for several reasons Smile

Too bad. Had hoped to see Nizzolo get a stage podium here, but looking at the competition he could finish anywhere from 2nd to 8th logically so I can't be unhappy with 5th.

Boily 8th GC is easily better than what I would have anticipated prior to the race, with Aidan van Niekerk probably a little bit worse than expected and unfortunately Ioannidis fell completely out of contention for a good GC result with just one bad performance. Too bad really...

But overall we got a decent pointscoring from the race of aproximately 200 points which is something like 50 points higher than anticipated - and could have even been less! So after our two weak setups of the trippleheader we have secured close to 400 points, which is really good. Especially seeing that we already secured 175 points in Paris-Nice, with 2 stages left that really suit Lecuisinier and quite likely a good GC position (must do!).

Could we beat Puma's 752 points from last season? It seems very realistic at this point! Next target - T-Mobiles 950 from 2018 Pfft - Nah, that obviously isn't possible Smile
