Very very dissapointing race from Lecuisinier to finish even behind teammate Bongiorno, while he should have been up there with the likes of Pluchkin, Spilak and Herklotz - or at the very least close behind.
Also a surprising turn of events really... I was looking at when the front trio would collapse to lose it all to the top climbers with decent cobblestats, but no. Wisniowski is also a pretty cool world champion I must say.
The B worlds with Aidan winning, and the A worlds with the perfectly rounded cobblers fighting for the win made this a somewhat more acceptable WC than I would have thought - that being said: No way in hell are we doing this stuff again! A WC race needs to stay open for a very long time, not excluding 95% of the peloton by more than 30 minutes. IMO an unnaceptable choice of route, but if that's what the peers want I guess that is what we get - but for me a WC is an open route that can have multiple winners from the preview and will also keep the race open for a very very long time.

Thanks guys!
To be honest my expectations was kind of low going into the race, and I was thinking it would be a race for the best climbers with decent cobbles skills or the good cobblers with a better MO stat than Wisniowski, like Polanc or Kruijswijk. As the race went on I could see the chance increasing more and more, and the final was just brutal from Wisniowski. He must have been on an amazing day.
I wasn't 100 per cent sure of keeping Wisniowski, but now that he's a World Champion, he surely has to say!
A good WC all in all for us, with Iturria also taking gold in the TTT. Not a medal for Phinney in the ITT, but it was always going to be hard on such a course. Thanks for all the reports!

We decide on a mountain WC, get this abomination in the second vote, and yet the fastest climber in the B race wins, and the fastest climber in the U23 wins, but the fastest climber in the elite race finishes fourth. And of course it's Herklotz.
I'll need a while to forgive that.
Congrats to Wisniowski and therefore Grieg though, he was the strongest on what we've given the riders, and who am I to blame him for that. Enjoy the jersey!
On the bright side, Ganna rode two great U23 races and takes a deserved silver medal in the TT. He'll be amazing once maxed.
Thanks to all the reporters!

Aidan has 71MO - Definately not the best climber of the U23

Besides the fact that Aidan was far from the best climber in u23. Also worth noting that Pluchkin wasn't just the best climber in B-Race he was by far the best rider in general without any competition. Also no real comparable cobblers to the top of the A Race field, with Pedersen being the strongest candidate I think.

Pretty surprised Vanspeybrouck didn't even get a look from the Belgium selectors. Seeing the winner and podium, looks like my inclination was right. Would have been a good race for him most likely.
Really interesting stuff this year with the crazy route. Congrats to tastasol and thank you to Marcovdw for a tremendous report!

I loved these WCs, awesome action, awesome reports, interesting results. A shame Polanc and Spilak couldn't combine for the win, but Slovenia did a very good job in all the races. Thanks to all reporters!

Big congratulations to tastasol on the win! That was quite a ride from Wisniowski, what a rider he has been this season.
Also thank you for the exciting report and the well-covered action, Marcovdw! |

Ahh so so close! Was a bit hurtful to see Summerhill finish runner-up to the rainbow jersey but life goes on, big congratulations to Wisniowski and the cobbled specialists who had their chance to success!

Guys, I said the fastest climber in the actual race, not the best climber on paper, with the distinction being determined by their better stat between MO and COB.
B and U23 race won by climbers, and the entire elite podium were cobblers.
Just let me be salty for a day! :P

Congrats Wisniowski!
I expected more from Kruijswijk, guess he didn't have a great day.
Nice try by Madrazo.

Wisniowski with one of the worst MO stats from the bunch beats the best climbers? No way.

Too bad Polanc couldn't pull it off, still 2 in top 10 for Slovenia is solid

Martin "The Goddamn Legend, National Hero and Cult Icon" Grashev For the 32 year old Bulgarian to finish in the Top20 of a World Championship is absolutely incredible! Completely justifies bringing the worlds to Bulgaria and really puts the full stop on what has been a long long project
All the way from Boeing-Bulgaria Bicycling newbies, cobbles defined my team and Grashev was more than excellent support to Geraint Thomas (also now departing the squad, more on him in my HQ soon) and to Burghardt and to Altur. Guiding all of them to exceptional results.
He may only have claimed a National Title for himself, but on African Cobbles (yes that's a whole unique category i've decided) he made himself known. Completely bucking the trend to finish on the podium in multiple years of different events, as well as single handedly trying to prevent relegation in the Tour de Faso 2014 (i hope it was 2014...). Martin Grashev, he will never be celebrated like Pate or Kagestad or the MG legends like Cunego or Bewley. But he is without question one of the finest bike riders around.
Martin we, the people of the MG, your loyal supporters for 7 years, and you country men on home soil, salute you!

Truly they should build a statue for Grashev at the foot of Torfeno Branishte.
