Perfect answer by Démare after yesterday's bummer - and even with a gap!
Sicard already showing his strength as well, Madrazo will have to watch out! Looking forward to a great fight

Anonymous stage by my team which is totally fine on this terrain even though going for the break might be an option as well.
Velits attentive and 19th of the day is fine. Can`t expect him to attack and finish around Sicard/Madrazo etc.
All but Lopez will finish ahead of him in the end anyway, so just losing on one direct opponent for the GC.
Demare with the needed win, well deserved and good to see him going for it. |

Good second stage. No stage podium by Lopez as i had outsider hopes but gaining some seconds on important rivals can be crucial and already claiming white are some nice points (although he probably will lose it again on the TTT)
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Great effort from Stauff here, but definately not ideal for Lecuisinier to lose time to this many rivals already!

Well done Madrazo! Very attentive to go with that attack and 20 seconds is a nice reward.
Dominant win by Demare. Also Tinkoff having a good time so far. Congrats!

Well, here we go!
Loved the preview. Very nicely done with an extreme amount of (interesting) facts. And I obviously also love the fact that you just had to move Sicard higher up among the favourites
It's always been a dream to win the Tour. Obviously not the top candidate for it, but well... great start on that 2nd stage. |

Yzeiraj! Brilliant to see him try again, proving himself as the rouleur he already is, only getting better next season.
Dominant from Demare, as you would expect on such a stage this early in the race. Congratulations, cio! Also interesting to see gaps created among the favourites. Feels kind of hard on Phinney seeing how little the gap to Aziz actually was, but that's how PCM rolls. Very nice to see Guldhammer able to join the select group, must say I cheer for him here, considering his history and T-Mobile's struggles this season. |

Lovely read, a fine mixed stage this early, funny to see the mix of riders in GC top 20 after this one, with some GC riders moving up already but still mostly sprinters able to survive the hill and due to the split from yesterday (maybe unrealistic but somewhat cool in this situation)

That is EXACTLY how you bounce back from a day like yesterday!
Thank you guys! I know I don't always make it easy to cheer for us.
That is our first yellow jersey in the team's history, and a culmination of my team and training plans of the last 5 years.
6 Giro stage wins were amazing, but riding into THE yellow jersey, as a Frenchman in France (only the fourth Frenchman in yellow ever!), after such a dominant display in the final kilometres...no bonus second cheesing over an entire week, no sum of placements countback, just pure strength.
We achieved our big goal for this TdF one day late, but with a way bigger GC gap and way more style than we could've expected.
I hope we can stay in yellow and green until the TTT now.
Lovely to see Cavagna take 5 points from the KoM in his home GT (plus 5 more points guaranteed tomorrow) and Niu take one from the U25 with his ever-impresssive consistency. I think I might have to calculate how many points our unmaxed riders took at the end of the season, it's been impressive so far.
Tomorrow looks to become as difficult as the teams want it to be.
It could be a snoozefest with only a couple of escapees again and a full peloton sprinting for the win, but the terrain in the last 30k certainly gives us and EA the opportunity to make the rest of the sprinters suffer at the least, and get caught out behind splits at best.
With us leading the race, the relaying train should consist of strong climbers and puncheurs when we get to the crucial part of the race, which hopefully points towards the latter, and Demare in yellow should keep him very safe up front.
Then it'll just be about creating a stronger train than in Bruxelles, potentially replacing Arndt with Cavagna or Wackermann, or just about better execution of the leadout.

I will second this. The Tour is not lost yet, obviously, and a hill stage doesn't suit Morton that much. But it's still not ideal to lose time already on second day..

Just 4 french riders to wear yellow? Really?
Demare, Coppel, Moreau and Sicard?

Very good stage for us; first controlling and later attacking at the right moment, hopefully we keep riding like this!

Obviously we want to perform the best possible when we are there in the end, and thus 7th is a little below what we can expect from Stauff...
But because of the accumulating points from being 2nd in the GC and points competition too when we expected him to drop far back in the GC atleast yesterday, it is very good points for him - and us.
Lecuisinier seemed to ride it safe here, but he needs to be much better tomorrow than he was yesterday. For now I'll just be happy that Stauff is wearing a jersey tomorrow too - he will likely lose it tomorrow. I can only hope we don't use any team mates to keep him as high in the GC as possible as it's definately a waste of effort. And we need every bit of energy core to perform as good as possible in the TTT, which will determine what we can expect from Lecuisinier.

Perfectly executed by Puma and Demare. Congrats!
Also another good stage for Tinkoff.

Demare with the next win, well done.
Groenewegen again a bit behind the best. 4th is okay though without support even though there is always 1-2 riders ahead, that isn`t stronger really.
Dumoulin and Frison hopefully make it in time on the next stage.
Already in doubt they can have positive impact on the TTT seeing them working a lot and already deep in the red. |

Puma basically did the same as on stage 1, except there was no headwind today - and they might have been slightly more vigorous in their leadout. Démare seems to be in a great position to keep green until the end of the tour, which - along with two stage wins and two days in yellow so far - would be quite massive points. Let's see if Madrazo, Sicard & Co. can at least do something about the "yellow" part tomorrow

Great to see Van Poppel on the podium. He was in great position there, but I'm guessing Demare actually opening up a gap made Van Poppel lose just as much energy as the Frenchman while sprinting.

Busy opening few days for ISA - Hexacta youngsters Sanogo and Restrepo representing T-Mobile here as part of their season long loan agreements. Both have now played a part in a significant BotD, Sanogo fighting hard to secure the KoM jersey for a day, and both (fleetingly for now!) sitting in strong GC positions which is reflected in 2nd and 3rd in the white jersey competition. Can only expect things to get harder for them from now on though.
Next few days should see the race start to settle and take proper shape in the various key competitions. Echoing every other respondent, I was blown away by the pre-race preview. Hopefully the teams/riders reward our reporter and all the viewers by meeting the standard in terms of high quality racing to keep us on the edge of our seats all the way to Paris.
