The Japan Cup once again serves as the season-ending soiree for the PCT class of 2018. A lot of things still to be decided in the division, with the three-way battle for relegation making the headlines in recent times. The race for promotion is not done and dusted yet either. Podium Ambition, Ayubowan and Kulczyk still in with an outside shot of claiming automatic promotion, but it does look like a long-shot. The relegation is as close as it comes though. Carlsberg in 21st and Netia in 23rd are separated by 30 points, with Lierse almost exactly splitting their difference, sitting 17 points behind Carlsberg currently. A lot of the final positions still to be decided too among other teams, with season standings goals still up in limbo for certain teams.
Name | HIL | SPR | ACC | Lutsenko | 81 | 72 | 81 | Kinoshita | 81 | 68 | 77 | Schreurs | 81 | 71 | 74 | Ulissi | 80 | 74 | 75 | Flügel | 81 | 68 | 74 | McCarthy | 81 | 65 | 74 | Juul-Jensen | 78 | 66 | 79 | Bystrom | 79 | 68 | 76 | Betancourt | 80 | 67 | 74 | Caruso | 78 | 70 | 77 | Bilbao | 79 | 71 | 75 | Pichon | 79 | 63 | 76 | Dyrnes | 78 | 65 | 77 | Barbin | 78 | 71 | 76 | Waeytens | 80 | 66 | 73 | Froome | 81 | 53 | 73 | Anuar Aziz | 81 | 67 | 71 |
FA star of the year, Lutsenko, starts as top favourite for the climax of the season. His closest challenge for the win will come from Kinoshita and Schreurs. With Meiji mulling wrapping up in their current avatar, this could be the last time we see Kinoshita in their colours. What a way to go out it would be if he could grab a win on home soil.
Ulissi, for the champions Generali, is a leading podium contender for this race, and could very well pull off a win if he gets it right. Kraftwerk have performed really well in the second half of the season and Flugel will be looking to finish it off in style. McCarthy has a huge responsibility of his team on his shoulders, who's season looks to be heading towards disappointment, after being pre-season favourites to promote to the PT.
Juul-Jensen, likewise, carries the burden of keeping his team's nose ahead in their relegation battle with Lierse and Netia. Speaking of whom, Dyrnes and Waeytens are the designated hope for their respective teams, as both look to overturn a deficit and ensure a miraculous stay in the division!
The likes of Bystrom, Betancourt, Caruso, Bilbao and Pichon will all be fighting it out to get a Top 10 result.
Froome and Anuar Aziz are quite low in the favourites' table, due to lacking maybe the final punch to make it up the final ramp. Both teams are the ones in danger of losing out their direct promotion place in case one of the chasers can pull off a stunning reversal.
Name | HIL | SPR | ACC | Quevedo | 78 | 65 | 75 | Prevar | 79 | 67 | 73 | Dowsett | 80 | 66 | 71 | Palini | 78 | 68 | 74 | Boily | 78 | 68 | 74 | Roux | 78 | 57 | 75 | Moazemi | 78 | 65 | 73 | Chaves | 79 | 58 | 72 | Barrio | 79 | 65 | 67 | Mehr-Wenige | 78 | 66 | 67 | Levarlet | 78 | 62 | 66 |
The likes of Dowsett, Prevar, Chaves and Barrio are strong punchers but lack in one or more of the aspects required to be successful in this race on paper.

Ah, the end to my suffering is near. I don't see us (or Netia) beating Carlsberg anymore, but it's always nice to have some excitement in the final race.
Prediction for Waeytens: 16th
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Dear Kristian,
When I offered you a stellar wage to be on our team, I wasn't expecting you to be a huge star. I wasn't expecting you to be a star at all, in fact, I would've been happy with a few top 10s and a lot of top 15s to get a few points on the board. Except you didn't really do that. I also thought that just maybe, maybe, if I got lucky, you'd have one stage where you broke away and got a nice result. Unfortunately I forgot that Netia would be the least lucky team of the season. The result of this is that, our entire future is now in your hands and you're still going to not care and finish 19th.

Yep, there's no way we're catching up, will be interesting to see Carlsberg vs. Lierse for the last spot, best of luck to the both of you.

Considering this is our win goal, everything we will do here is going to be considered a failure. Looking forward to getting this eason over with and rebuild in CT tho.

As outlined in the latest PCT standings update, WCC's target is to gain 40 ranking points here in the last race of the season to breech 2500 points overall. This will likely need Betancourt to break into the top10 and Boily and/or R-G top 30 for additional minor points. Reading that back, doesn't sound that likely given how we have generally underperformed in the 1-day puncheur races this season, where what is outlined has been the absolute best case, and some recent outings (Emilia f.e.) have ended up zero-pointers.
Whatever the case, the report will be studied with great interest to follow the various end of season battles that culminate here.

This is it! A top 10 should in theory be anough. I just hope that a breakaway with one of the challenging teams will be our end, so let's see and hopefully Froome attacks on the right moment

Haven’t been online much in the last few weeks due to my trip but this is always my favourite race of the year, so hopefully we can end the season on a high.

Would be nice if Bystrom gets a similar result as Froome and Anuar Aziz to finish in the PCT podium the season, but not really a problem otherwise. Just waiting to oficially celebrate our promotion!

Well here we go. The race to end all races. It all comes down to this. One thing cannot happen. JJ rides at the back and comes home in an anonymous place in the low 20's while his rivals gain just enough to pass us. He has to really go for it. The whole team is here to support him. We've brought every puncheur on our payroll.
And of course, if JJ falters, De Maar has the green light to work his magic one last time.

I mean, surely we’re gonna be alright. Ridiculous field and zero chance a break will stay away. I don’t care what happens, I just hope AA’s there and our promotion rivals aren’t.
Thanks for the preview.

To stand a chance of making our top 10 goal we only need Flügel to beat Lutsenko, oh dear

Would love Dyrnes to make himself a hero with a huge performance but really you can't look past CJJ, even if Carlsberg were slightly behind he could pull it back. Sad that two more relegations will be confirmed
Would enjoy a Roux top 10 or attack in his probable last race for us but not expecting too much in such a strong field!

We only need 8 points to climb to 6th, and first disbandment position. Surely we can do that? Simon's been pretty good so far this season and whilst it's a stacked field the course isn't too bad for him and he loves to overperform! Fingers crossed we can make that small move forwards and secure a future for the team

Must say I agree with most here, this is Carlsberg's to "loose". However, to at least get your hopes up, Dyrnes best result came in the very last race of the 2016 season. And when he back then beat Gastauer, Bakelants, TvG, EBH and all other world class puncheurs except Ponzi for second place in Lombardia, surely he can at least put up a fight in Japan?
As a spectator, I just hope we get a thrilling race for the avoid relegation fight, where there will be tension deep in the final. |

Another top 10 for Bilbao would be great and for him to show his Spanish NC jersey one more time would be great but no pressure!
Hope for Anuar Aziz to secure promotion for Indosat so we can continue our Southeastern Asian rivalry into PT
Also rooting for Carlsberg to keep the other teams at distance! |

Carlsberg has done it! Probably the best escape artists in cycling! Had this not been a win goal I would have been very happy with our racing here,we helped animate the race and make it enjoyable to watch, now its time to figure out what to do to set us up for a promotion next season!
