Giro dell'Emelia
Buongiorno cycling fans, and especially the managers of the Pro Continental tour. And I'm saying that because I heard some managers of the PCT are reading this exact newspaper! Ha, you didn't think that would be possible, did you?
Tomorrow we are in for another MG classic: The Giro dell'Emelia. A classic for sure, having been won by riders like Damiano Cunego, Ginanni and Kelderman in the past. What isn't classic is the route though, we are racing a new, much tougher one than last year! The main changes are a bit more flat between the final circuit hills and a more mountainous ride to that circuit, too. The winner of this 195 kilometer circuit will certainly be a rider who has a lot of power in his legs on the final climb.
| FL | HIL | ACC | | FL | HIL | ACC | Di Maggio | 65 | 82 | 75 | Bystrom | 72 | 79 | 76 | Kinoshita | 73 | 81 | 77 | Kwiatkowski | 72 | 79 | 75 | McCarthy | 70 | 81 | 74 | Bilbao | 71 | 79 | 75 | Flügel | 69 | 81 | 74 | Prevar | 72 | 79 | 73 | Schreurs | 70 | 81 | 74 | Barrio | 63 | 79 | 67 | Froome | 69 | 81 | 73 | Juul-Jensen | 73 | 78 | 79 | Anuar Aziz | 72 | 81 | 71 | Caruso | 68 | 78 | 77 | Betancourt | 69 | 80 | 74 | Dyrnes | 68 | 78 | 77 | Waeytens | 70 | 80 | 73 | Bellis | 75 | 78 | 75 | Costa | 70 | 80 | 72 | Quevedo | 69 | 78 | 75 | Klemme | 71 | 80 | 66 | Roux | 74 | 78 | 75 | Izagirre | 71 | 80 | 64 | Moazemi | 67 | 78 | 73 |
Top puncheur Lutsenko is missing from the startlist, due to his team not participating in this band. The same counts for Ulissi. This opens up a lot of opportunities for his main rival, Kinoshita, who is now alone in being the race favourite! And with his mediocre season so far, a win will be very welcome to regain his confidence.
Kinoshita has five big rivals here, who all have fairly similiar abilities: McCarthy, Flügel, Schreurs, Froome and Anuar Aziz. All of them are just at good as climbing hills, but miss that acceleration Kinoshita has to break away from others. A good day however can easily mean they can outperform him.
The next five riders on this list all don't seem to perform as well as they should on paper: Betancourt, Waeytens, Costa, Klemme and Izagirre. There's a “battle in a battle” between those names: Betancourt and Waeytens' teams are in a relegation fight and might look at each other more than the whole picture!
Bystrom, the Kwiatek-Dyrnes duo (also fighters against relegation), Bilbao and Prevar should be able to challenge the riders mentioned above with better acceleration or just by having a good day. All others will need both extra firepower in them or great tactics to reach the line as first.
Last but not least, the biggest question mark of this race. Di Maggio from CT team ENI-MOL is here with a wildcard to ride his home race. He has a lot of reasons why he won't perform today, but if the stars align, who knows what will happen?

Good to see the sprint towards the season finish continue, bad to see it coming down to Waeytens to keep us in. Hoping Cerny or Moscon can step us as well.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Top 10 looks like the best I can hope for with Costa, given recent results. He just doesn't attack. Lots of sub-plots in this race is sure to make it interesting.

Oh wow, very tough startlist, not sure we'll get anything out of this. The uphill finish normally wouldn't play in Kadri and Vichot's favor either, though they were impressive in Hanko classic. Hopefully we can get some points out of this, though.

There's no getting around how important this race is to us, even without our top 3 goal. However, Kwiat has had podium consistency in the past here so a repeat should be feasible. Really, really worried that PCM has other plans though.
Thanks for the preview Vien!
btw, this race still has the decent hl/mo ratio right? The preview is written like it's not, but that has always been a staple of this race, so I assume it's as it always has been.

No clue about the MO/HIL ratio, really. We'll have to wait and see.

Don't have much hope of a good result here. Caruso could pull something out of his arse but I doubt it. Maybe I have some hope from the breakaway. Ah well, let's hope for the best!

A good chance for Sven to comeback from his last inconsistent showings and deliver us a decent result to continue building a gap towards the other teams involved in that 5th place fighting

Our only hope is that Juul-Jensen puts in a performance well above his weight, while our competition for relegation do terribly.
I don't see that happening, but there's only one way it can - we have to be very aggressive.

Massive startlist! High stakes race for most managers here. If AA can sneak into the top-5, that’ll be huge to our promotion hopes. Guess we’ll see!

Seriously man, I have a 80 HIL rider who rides like a 77, a 77 HIL rider who rides like a 70, a trained 75 HIL rider who somehow got worse as a result and a 79 MON rider who rides like a 75. And they say ACC is not important! Season's gone downhill since Austria. We're going to end up not better than 15th and that's a huge disappointment.

Another race with totally messed up ratios. :/
I've got mixed feelings here but overall am kinda annoyed. 5th from Kwiat in ordinary circumstances is fine and for a pure hill classic is a fantastic result.
But anybody who looks back at past years could see that it's not a pure hill classic, so it's weird to see the 65 mo Di Maggio on the podium, amongst other results from low Mo guys. Especially given the route got harder this year.
Kinda frustrating to be honest, we've gone from low mid-table to relegating off this stuff already this season and it's the second time we've lost a goal because of it, surely there's got to be some consistency around this stuff.
Now I guess we're reliant on some Prevar level San Sebastien surprise or for PCM to finally stop hating Vantomme again, not good.
Thanks for the report Vien, it was well-written.

You had a top 5-goal. here, trek. So at least that's something. Top 3-goals aren't even possible anymore

Oh. Well, that's good at least.
Not that we'll really have much use for money if we relegate, given all our team plans will have gone out the window.

To be fair, I'm pretty happy with 10th from Caruso and 18th from Zingle. The race wasn't ridden hard so Caruso could use his acceleration and sprint to get a decent result here. Not enough in all honesty but better than I was expecting.
