I dont know why but I wanted somehow for Nibali to win this Giro. He is a classy rider. Its a pity he did not have better legs today.

Listen, I'm not a MAL fan. Not even close. But honestly, I don't blame him for hitting the spectator. We have this idea that the cyclists are somehow more powerful and should be in more control, but think about the actual power dynamic there. That spectator took him out, cost him the race, and could have severely injured him, all out of stupid negligence. Can you imagine if you were going for a ride and someone knocked you over like that, putting you in danger? Let alone at race speeds with your profession on the line. I'd want to jump the guy too.
Screw that idiot, and all the idiots that impede and mess with the riders. Even with good intentions - remember the Bongiorno crash.

On the actual race, it's disappointing not to see any crazy fireworks, but it's a deserved win for Carapaz and Movistar. Nibali really tried; I just don't think he had the legs this year. Hoping the standings stay as they are, but I'm pretty sure Roglic will get a spot on the podium. In reality, eh deserves much less to be honest. Probably regretting being so cagey with Nibali earlier.
I was disappointed Joe Dombrowski had sucha poor final week after his great first few mountain stages. He crashed hard on stage 16 (?) and has not looked the same since. It's still cool to see him getting 12th on GC, even after he didn't really attempt to stay with the group on stage 12 and lost buckets. At least he's put together a solid GC now. He turned 28, and I'm not kidding myself into thinking he's going to improve and reach his potential anymore. But after the injuries and setbacks (and being at Sky), it's nice to know he's at least turned into a solid PT climber.

The Giro is normally my favourite GT BUT this is the worst designed Giro I've ever seen. The whole thing felt like the "random track shuffle option" when you play a CD on your stereo and the whole thing was made even worse with the loss of the Gavia as well. Even this final TT is only 17 km which means not too much will shift.

At first glance, it looked great. However, on closer inspection, those final climbs were piss poor. A consistent 7% and short yesterday, 6% the day before that and a 3km 8% burst the day before that on a road the width of the Nile. Hardly the gradients or terrain needed to split the race up. I appreciate everyone was knackered yesterday, but I feel the steady, modest gradient was just as much a contributing factor to the break being able to stay with the GC riders to the summit.
Beforehand, I didn't mind the switch to a flatter first week. But, in reality, the lack of flat in the second half gave the GC riders no time to recuperate whereby, MAL aside, no one was really able to attack. |

On the MAL incident:I agree with the majority that he couldn't be asked to hold his nerve in a situation like that, However some sort of closure should be given to the situation, with maybe a press conference with Superman having the time to apologize for hitting the man.
Fans and cycling go hand in hand. There is no cycling without the euphoria of these guys, but then without proper precaution these sort of things will happen. However with that said I have to rekon that if I were MAL I didn't want to leave this image of the "guy who slapped the shit out of a fan", who, despite all his stupidity, was just a guy who was stoked to see his idols on the road.

Who would? I doubt MAL wanted to either, if he had thought about it for a second. But we're talking about the finale of stage 20 of the Giro d'Italia. I doubt he was thinking about that in the moment and with all that adrenaline.

Agree with many that are saying this was a poor Giro planning, I didn't appreciate the choice to put 3 ITT, maybe 2 ITT (first ones) and a sprint stage on last day was pretty better. Another thing missing was a ____/ stage, tipically plugged in first week.
Mountain stages were some good (loved 13 last climb to Colle Nivolet) and some others a total disaster (17, 19 in particular), Stage 16 was quite good, but Gavia removal didn't helped, and imo road to Ponte di Legno killed the race in last kms of Mortirolo
