Geraint Thomas is voted the British Sports Personality of the Year.
Wonder how Froome feels about this
2011 - Mark Cavendish Wins
2012 - Bradley Wiggins wins
2013-2017 - Chris Froome wins 4 Tour de France titles and Andy Murray wins SPOTY 3 times for losing to Djokovic, Nadal and Federer week in, week out.
2018 - Geraint Thomas wins
He never even got on the podium in those years

Naturally the best way to express pride in your nation is to pick another one.

That's Mathieu van der Poel on the cobbles and/or Ardennes!
And he just announced his program:
Nokere Koerse
Handzame Classic
Gent-Wevelgem
Dwars door Vlaanderen
Ronde van Vlaanderen
Brabantse Pijl
Amstel Gold Race
We all saw van Aert's performance last year, and I would be surprised if Mathieu wouldn't match him. While Wout is still looking for a team, I see Mathieu really win one of these races. That finish in Nokere is made for him and Brabantse Pijl is probably what a race would look like if he could design it himself. Ronde will probably be too hard for him, but Amstel with the new finish?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Good news. Unfortunately he joins a little late as I would've loved to see him from the start of the season BUT he will be there for RVV and Paris-Rubaix (fingers crossed)

Actually he won't miss much, Omloop is March 2nd so in theory he could start there. As we all know, any race before Omloop is irrelevant.

I didn't want to show this, but I had to show you this: On the CyclingWeekly comment section, some user claims that the only reason Denifl left was due to some "positive doping test" and Denifl was nothing but a fraud comparing him to the likes of Benhard Kohl. Here is the entire comment - see it for yourselves:
It’s obvious that the guy has had a positive (or has been caught in something ) . As a man of this sport I said on these blogs a couple of months ago that this guy was a red flag walking .
Last year he was the best climber in the vuelta he won on the steepest climb dropping world class riders and putting time on everyone except for contador . He won the Austria tour .
Simply astounding and incredible to witness .
But never ever he repeated himself this year
The guy is a fraud (in the mould of the other great Austrian guys kohl and luttenberger )
Do you think Denifl left because he was caught or it was something personal? As far as I'm concerned, he has left due to personal issues. And the team also said it so in their statement.

Denifl's year was poor due to a knee injury sustained at the beginning of the season, irrc, he stood out for at least three months and only truly started racing in May at the Tour of Norway. Though his results in 2017 were, to his standards, outstanding, I don't think it has anything to do with those achievements being enhanced by some substance of kind and usually teams send out a statement regarding positive tests. Unless CCC are trying to protect themselves from controversy right before they start riding. |

It reminds me of the Joni Brandão case, but tbh I never related Denifl to any sort of controversy.. The guy's comment "Last year he was the best climber in the vuelta he won on the steepest climb dropping world class riders and putting time on everyone except for contador" makes it clear that no he doesn't really know what happened or even watched the stage so I wouldn't even consider him.
Something personal is that grey area cause it can actually be something private, but yeah it's one of those things you won't really know.
