Nakhon Ratchasima Trophy Discussion

Welcome to Thailand for the third edition of this sprinter's classic. The race consists of 12 laps around a 15-km circuit around the city of Nakhon Ratchasima.

The race also happens to produce surprising winners, as the two winner are two riders that you wouldn't consider between the favourites in any flat race for PCT teams, with Nacer Bouhanni winning in 2016 and Damion Drapac doing it in 2017

The main favourite should be John Degenkolb, one of the best sprinters in the world. His season has had ups and downs, usually performing better when the field was stronger, like winning Tour of Qatar against all PT sprinters.

Caleb Ewan and Erik Mohs are very dangerous, and while the young Aussie has only won a stage in TDU this year, Mohs comes from winning the Down Under Classic in the season opener.

Mark Cavendish and Matthew Goss are both having great seasons so far and will hope to continue with their good runs in this race, where Goss finished second last year.

We never know what to expect from Ivano Lo Cicero, who is win-less since the Italian Championship in 2016, so needs a win now to get confidence to back at his best

History shows that Kenji Itami should be considered a favourite here, given that he's finished on the podium in both times the race was held before.

Oscar Guerao should be a rider that fight for the win here, but his year so far has been awful, after a very succesfull 2017 season. As for many other, he needs this race to be a turning point in his season.

We can't forget about the two past winners, Damion Drapac and Nacer Bouhanni, who will be looking to add a second win here to their palmares.

Some riders like Luke Rowe, Tom van Asbroeck or Sebastian Lander will be looking to use their superior flat skills to get an advantage for the sprint, or if the race is affected by the wind.

Lahcen Saber, Matti Mattinen, Moreno Moser and Ismail Kip will have something to say in the race for sure, same as Ricki Nelson, but the latter might have to support his leader Ewan

Another tough race, please Smile

Ewan could be doing slightly better, now's as good a time as any to start stepping it up a level! No idea what Ricki will manage, he's rather underperforming this season. Between the two we're looking for a Top5, ideally two in the Top10! Lets keep our decent season rocking and rolling

Maybe Top 20 expectation was a bit optimistic, but at very least we should have someone in the break. Can Kruopis or Dzervus overperform? Come on babyyy

I can't expect sadly anything here. King can do something special and finish in the top 10 according to his previous performances against top sprinters... Yet more probable way is that I'll not be in the scoring place.

Flat C1 classic, I must have done my season planning while under the influence.

Anyway, the profile suits Drapac more than any other classic so maybe it isn't that bad, but the opposition is mega strong so I'm not counting on a top ten.

Have to think Itami finally ends his run on the podium, with a finish outside of it, although I am still hoping for a strong result.

Purposely avoided this race think I could find easier sprinter fields elsewhere. I've lost out in some of those alternative options, but I don't really regret it after seeing the field here.

Well, top 5 is probably out the question, so top 10 is what we are aiming for. Saber did well in DUC and hopefully can repeat that.

Thanks for the preview Smile

Please, I really need victory here to strenghten of my self-confidence. Tough and windy race seems to be an ideal scenario to deliver good result.

Hoping that the Bouhanni & Moser combination works for me here.

Decided not to bring Vantomme after last years mess, so it's LNH's chance to lead, but based on his season so far I'm not expecting heaps, maybe Reckweg?

Rowe's high flat stat is giving him the win, thanks for the awesome preview! Smile

Time for a random breakaway victory and a Mitchelton boy as part of the winning break.

Podium from Caleb, spot on what we were looking for from this race! Finished strong. We don't have a great leadout set-up in the team, something to work on this offseason. Ricki freelanced nicely until the final sprint, collapsing from the group of sprinters to 47th in about 1000m! If that doesn't sum up Ricki's PCT career i don't know what does. A CT team could do very well taking him off our hands Wink

YES LO CICERO

It's about damn time that he grabbed a win. This continues a really nice streak of goodish finishes by him, but its awesome to finally see a greatleadout + him finishing the job

thanks for the report Aquarius!

Well, King scored some points. Not many but still. Congrats to the winner, and thanks for the report!

Another nope, I'm actually glad we're not getting ranking updates anymore.

Thanks for the report.

I can live with 2nd place after that horrible leadout for Mohs, not that bad considering

I am so happy that Giaux turned out to continue his great leadout work at Carrefour, awesome win!
