Van stayen missing the top 10 is far from ideal but i take this as an actually very promising start. The echeloms were awesome for us. I claim to be partially responsible for it to happen and all 8 Evonik guys finished in the first group which especially is good for Stoltz chances for a nice GC.

Getting a leadout is what i hoped for when deciding Van Stayens training and is a great sign for the season. Too bad it blew up which might be due to Mansilla who is not ideal for this and apparently already worked a lot in the first half of the stage which is obviously not clever.

Thanks fpr the report. That was an excellent sprint coverage!

Indeed... In hindsight GVA could have probably been the difference between van Stayen top 5 GC and him winning the race, though.

Yep, looks like a planning mistake right now. I wasnt expecting getting a leadout against everybody else so i just send some kind of emergency option in Mansilla. But lets wait for other stages before drawing too quick conclusions...

Id rather say between top 5 and top 10-15 because winning the race doesnt look possible with that PRL Wink
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

So Ahlstrand thinks he is some kind of Cancellara does last km´s?
8th is okey but with some better tactic he could have done better, with okey I mean that some other topsprinters is out of top 10 but not nice being beaten by Bar, Zabel & Kennaugh.

And to top that my two decent TT Haugard and Campenaerts lost time.

Not have this race needs to go for us.

That's a rather worrying start from Ciolek, I must say, not being able to even try his luck in the sprint. Hopefully he improves on the next stages. Good thing to see us have both Oss and Gjølberg in the front group though, in addition to Ciolek and Holst Enger, as who knows what can happen going forward from here. Such a strong wind on the first stage probably means we'll see more crosswinds.

Unfortunate that Paillot couldn't hang on, as that would have been brilliant considering the epilogue and the bonifications he picked up. Though, I guess that would have been too lucky if he had actually crossed the line together with the first group Pfft

Big win for wildcard Degenkolb, and solid performance from Coquard and the Festina squad. Much more worrying for Swift and roturn, as they'll need to strike back from this.

Well, my team leader isn't even important enough to get a mention when he gets dropped, thanks for that.

Didn't expect our only source of points to become irrelevant after stage 1 already. All those years we had a double focus with a sprinter around, Sütterlin was just fine. Rolling Eyes
Oh yeah, and how bad does our team have to be to consider participating in the breakaway battle?

Seems like Weinstein has to become our leader here now. 73PRL wouldn't get him anywhere in the GC, but some minor points in the U25 category suddenly become a possibility. Surely he'll get dropped tomorrow though to make this an actual 0-pointer.

Bonifications is easily the biggest impact. Coquard won 30 seconds over the worst prologue riders last season, and Coquard is easily the best prologue rider. Degenkolb lost 16 seconds, with Swift and Bewley losing around 10-12. So you wouldn't need to lead by that much to land the win really.

Not much difference with Kennaugh and Ahlstrand though. I agree with Zabel and indeed Bar...

I'm sorry about your team leader, sometimes MG can be cruel but, I get a split of 89 riders. I know I have to scroll through the entire split to look for casualties, as PCM only shows one riders name, everyone else considered unimportant by the game.

In the race there is 57 riders with 76+ sprint
48 riders with 77+
38 riders with 78+
32 riders with 79+
22 riders with 80+
So how many should be looked up and mentioned, I have to screenshot every single one.

Some may know what riders are “important team leaders”, but I either haven’t been around long enough or am just to stupid to remember. This is voluntary work and I honestly don’t thinks that kind of remark is needed if you want people to report.

Thanks for reading my report.

Somehow thought Kennaugh was 81 SP 82 ACC not the otherway around. Nevermind guess I will have to settle for 5-10 all season long for Ahlstrand anyway. Pfft
Next stage most likely atleast Swift, Van Stayen and Grosu will beat him and Zabel co. will be after him so still a 8thish place Pfft Or worse.

I don't think cio meant it in that way, but I will at least say that the work from the reporters and other working behind the scenes is truly appreciated and a part of why I like MG so much! Thanks for all your work, Tamijo. I imagine it was a hectic race, and as you say, you can't name every rider that gets dropped. Looking forward to your further reports Smile

I love picture of celebrating Degenkolb so much.

Thanks for great and incredibly detailed report Tamijo! Interesting how many prologue specialists already lost their chance for decent GC place.

@Tamijo:

Sorry man, that comment was too harsh indeed. The day I stop getting annoyed by the ManGame is probably the day I died.

Historically the Qatar GC has 82+ sprinters make up the Top 10 and 80+ TTers make up the Top 20. So I personally would rate the 5th-10th best TTers way over the 30th-40th best sprinters, but obviously I shouldn't have said it like that. I apologize and indeed loved the rest of the report.

It’s OK, no worries.

Just wanted to point out, that even though trying your best it is very hard to cover everything, let alone make everyone happy, you get basically NO help from PCM.
Not to mention that you can easily miss a screenshot by mistake, etc.

Strong start for Zabel. Maksimov couldn't hang so Zabel picked up the slack. That's exactly why we got him. Very pleased.

Argh. Howard looked well placed early into the sprint.. A disappointing result then. If Kennaugh can win a stage, we certainly should expect at least another Top-10 from Howard here!

Nice to see Edmondson in the finale. Obviously no result out of it, but he's been positioning Howard quite well, imo.

Cool sprint! Once again, Boeckmans started his sprint from a poor position. Looked like he had a decent sprint, but too much ground to make up to get inside the top ten. Can just hope that he takes another step in the right direction on the next stage, cause when Kennaugh can win here, Boeckmans should be able to be close to him.

Thanks for the report!

Nicely detailed report there. Afewerki just out of shot despite a nice 20th place finish. Hopefully makes it into background viewing in a future stage.

Painful reading for Swift and Aegon though, no reason for them to be so bad.
