Amazing win for the team and Gautier. Now onto defending the GC.
Great start to the season

Gautier tried something like this quite often last season, but then he always followed by Hagen and van Garderen so it's really great to finally see it happening for him.
If the first couple of races is anything to go by it will be a wonderful season.
It will be hard to keep the GC lead all the way through but it sure is easier to get a good GC placing out of a 1st place than a 20th place.

That was a great stage! Very nice win from Gautier, seems like Valio is going for that title!
And Ulissi doing an Ulissi special, how come he never learn?

At least we tried. 18 seconds to Gautier is just too much, but happy with 2nd place here. Kom jersey is a nice bonus
Now let's see how much Willunga hurts the sprinters

Seems like Prevar may actually get somewhat of a result here! Unexpected, but looking good so far.

Very small group in the front a few second behind Gautier and two Repsol riders, with Roelandts and Bystrom. Great to have them both, and now we have two riders in the GC Top15. A shame that Roelandts didn't have the legs to sprint neither in the first day or yesterday, as he could have been way higher in GC, and also Bystrom not taking any bonus second so far hurts a little, seeing that Froome, McCarthy, Ulissi, Yates, Edmondson all have taken bonus seconds.
Now i'm not sure of what i'd like for the Willunga stage. I think it's going to be too hard for Roelandts, but if we wanted a high GC result, he's our best hope, with the possible bonus seconds in S4 and S5. If the stage is too selective, maybe even Bystrom can't stay with the favourites, so a tough choice. A very slow stage coming down to a reduced sprint probably would be the ideal result for the team, as Jurgen can take more bonus seconds and rise some places in GC.
Also, congrats to Atlantius for that impressive win of Gautier. Surely you would rather have a performance like this last year trying to escape from relegation, this will help a lot with big points for him from the first month of the season

Yes, that really was a bummer. Wirtgen totally smashed it on the way up but Bellis was not behind him... |

Interesting to see such aggressive gameplay on that stage, more than I expected. And given the conposition of riders, the race can still go many ways.
Standout performance for Gautier of course, while it was amusing to see how terribly Barrio finished.
Great riding by Wirtgen though, too bad that Bellis missed the move he should have been all over.

Too bad that there wasn't a few gaps within that, but very interesting route this, with both puncheurs and strong sprinters in the mix. Podium Ambition seems to have a very good combination here. I would have loved to see Alaphilippe make the cut also, however.
Great ride from Gautier. He was the puncheur I would have like instead of Hugenhaben, but seeing him win stages (races) like this is almost equally satisfying.
Also great to see Wirtgen already proving his talent. He will be a great PT fit in a few seasons.

One thing is for sure - Bole may not get extension for next year.

Cool race with such a mixed GC in the top10. It should favour puncheurs in the end with Willunga still to come, but you never know.
Congrats Atlatntius, nice start to the season for Gautier!

Congrats Gautier and Atlantius, always nice to see the CT grab something in the PCT.
Gaviria to be our leader then? He's got the support he needs but how will PCM react? I guess a lot will depend on the next stage, if he somehow can get a surprise result things could get interesting.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Expecting a hell of a lot from him to be in the front group there with 73HIl & 75SPR/73ACC with very average back ups when compared to the riders who got in there Also worth remembering the quality of other riders who also missed out.
Btw Roturn, haven't mentioned it. Thanks for the great quality and frequency of reports as always!

Eiking with a nice ride in the break, and Quevedo smart enough to join the attacking group, though no bonus seconds unfortunately.
Congrats Atlantius, good to see Gautier doing well for once.

Great to see Gautier doing well (and not just because it takes points away from my PCT colleagues). Love that Valio is off to a great start, and hopefully a solid January will continue throughout the season. Would be great to have the fat cows back up in the PCT, where they belong.
This is shaping up to be a very interesting race, well done to the Admin team to create this race - I'll be keen to see if/how well riders like Roelendts, Gaviria, and Ewan can manage to hang on to their GC positions, or if the Bystroms/Prevars of the world will take their spots.
The reports are quality, roturn, thanks v much

Very aggressive and entertaining racing here - the opposite of what we wanted
We'll have to fight for stage results and minor GC points then. Hope we can do well on stage 5, as the other two stages probably are too flat for Kreder to get involved. De Bondt could maybe climb a little bit in the GC if he gets in another breakaway or two as well.
Impressive performance by Gautier. Valio is already looking good for the CT title. Will be interesting to see whether they can hold off punchy sprinters like Ewan to win the race.

What a start for us here! Holloway bothering to sprint and almost immediately our first win of the season GC still within reach though with stage 5 still coming it looks hard to get it, especially with Schreurs messing up stage 3.
