All that work for 12th place, not the start I was expecting

First of, congrats to Bjartne on the win! And thanks for the report Aquarius!
Im very happy with the 8th place here, cashing in on top 10's will be important this season.

WOOW congratz Bjartne who would've seen that outcome
Seems like the puncheur scene is gonna be really exciting this season, very good starter with plenty of riders worthy of fighting for victory and a couple of surprises.

Thanks for a nice report.
Quite happy with my 2nd place. Gautier just went a bit early I suppose but given the screenshot with 700 m to go I expected to lose much more than one spot.
Also amazing to see future legend Helme ripping things up in his first race

Reads like it was a really good race with quite a lot of action from the main teams and riders (and great reporting Aqua to bring this across to the audience, thanks). Would be fantastic if the make-up of the CT puncheur division this year means that the majority of hilly races are as well contested with the clutch of 77-79 puncheurs with good acc and solid sprints taking the race early to the '1-d' guys and Gautier, rather than just waiting on them to ride away in the finale.
Congrats to Compal-Merida and Zaini on the victory. 1st evidence that the '1-d' puncheurs that some have been writing off in this division are in fact the real deal with Di Maggio also right up there as well, even in windy conditions .
From a WCC perspective, we avoided a zero-pointer which is what the main objective was from this outing. R-G in 20th means three years in a row he has been top 20 here. Looking at the top 10, they are pretty much head-and-shoulders above R-G's level. While there are guys further up in 10th-20th places who he would have been disappointed not to beat on his day, there are also plenty of very solid riders for this terrain 20th-40th, so we will take our 2 (! ) points home with us not too unhappy. The strength and depth of the full field here on opening day did make it look like WCC's positioning was pretty terrible from the images in the news report, so while reading we in fact expected worse!

First top 10, I can't complain too much even though it seemed like Siskevicius had a good chance at top 5, but he will get his soon enough |

Great racing! Congrats to all the point scorers especially the winner Zaini from Compal-Merida. We will be present in Gisborne for the next hilly classic
Edit: Of topic... Is there a scoring system posted somewhere? I can't find it.

Thanks everybody and thanks Aquarius for this really exciting race!
A deserved C2-opening race in terms of action. I was 100% sure Gautier would take it in the end of the slope, and that Zaini would fall down to 5th-6th place. I have no idea where he got that final energy from.
Wonderful kick off to the new season for Compal! |

Maillet surprises everyone to snatch 11th place
Nearly fell off my chair, 70 hill! Only sent him as he had some spare race days!
Great report Aquarius and congrats to Bjartne, great way to start the comeback.

Woohoo!!We have the CT season opener!
Would have liked to see more from the team, but given the strength of the Puncheurs in the division, I am sort of happy with the result by Gasore. He was a last minute fill, and he did better than what a lesser rider could have done.
Well done Compal on their return back into the CT

Best rider on 69th place in my first C2 race ever = zero points
Not ideal start, but not a tragedy either. Congrats to Bjartne and thanks to Aquarius for great report!

Maillet showing the RES/ACC power makes me very excited for him this season, and also Debesay for me. Thanks for a great report Abhi, and congrats to surprising (for me) winner Zaini, not how I'd expect him to win at all but maybe I've underestimated him! Looks like this field will be very very interesting this season. All I can say is I'm hyped for Gisborne already
