MG New Riders Suggestions [2018]
tastasol
Some Norwegian suggestions coming. I noticed Halvorsen being added in the DB post transfers last year, so that's already taken care of Pfft Biggest talent in Norway atm (born 1997 or earlier) is probably Tobias Foss, but after getting top 10 in Avenir last year, he's having a rather tough season due to some issues (health, probably). Will therefore wait with him, and hopefully he'll be top 10 in Avenir again this season Smile Riders like Torjus Sleen and Erik Nordsæter Resell is also two very nice talents, but think they'll all benefit from being added later on.

So, first out is the Norwegian champions, Rasmus Fossum Tiller. Won that after a long breakaway and beating Sven Erik Bystrøm in the sprint, after being the only one who was close to following Bystrøm in the last hill. Very impressive when he's at his best. Showed himself best as a sprinter in his early days, but is now more of a "beast" type. 3rd in Gent-Wevelgem U23 last year, and came in with the group that contested for 2nd place in RvV U23 this year. Very, very impressive in Tro Bro Leon, where he was on his way to a solo victory before crashing a few kms before the finish. Got 5th place in the end there. Just raced the Peace Race, where he won the prologue, so a quite good TT rider as well. I'll suggest him here as a cobblist, either with a good sprint (the normal cobbles option) or with a good TT (Fabian option). PCS: https://www.procy...eason=2018

Also from the class of 1996 - Syver Wærsted. A good sprinter that also can tackle the climbs pretty good. Won Ringerike GP earlier this year and also got a stage win in a race in Rhodes. PCS: https://www.procy...eason=2018

A rider who's won Ringerike GP earlier and Scandiavian Race Uppsala (which Wærsted won in 2016) this year - Trond Håkon Trondsen! Showed great form in the Tour of Norway recently, finishing 5-10-4 in the first three stages. Already 13 times top 10 this season, which is because he goes very well in the hills and has a good sprint. PCS: https://www.procy...eason=2018

Another rider who looked very good in Tour of Norway - Kristian Aasvold. Would have been top 10 in GC without a puncture on the last stage. Been very steady this season and seems to have taken another step. To be honest, the stats I'm suggesting is more what Carl Fredrik Hagen deserves, and the stats Hagen has is probably more what Aasvold deserves. PCS: https://www.procy...eason=2018

Last one. Herman Dahl is a relatively classic sprinter - big and heavy. Goes fairly decent in the hills though and has really been impressive after switching teams over the winter. Especially in Tour de Bretagne, where he won a stage and got 6th in GC after a generally exciting performance. Won two stages and Baltic Chain Tour overall last year. Here are some Swiss riders. Also, looking at Patrick Müller in the post-transfers database, his birthdate is incorrect at July 8 1992, when it is actually 18 April 1996. Maybe it is just there as a placeholder?

Fabien Lienhard - He is currently in the DB as a pretty bad rider at lvl 2.50 that I don't think anyone would want to invest in training. I suggest we improve his stats a bit and advance his level to make him a possible future leadout man or better. He does have some very good results from the past couple years that would warrant an upgrade and it seems like he can sprint and handle hills well enough.

2018 Results - 3rd in 4 Jours de Dunkerque including a stage podium, 7th in Circuit Sarthe.
Also 21st in Amstel Gold Race, 17th in both Brabantse Pijl and GP Cholet - Pays De Loire

I actually would put him a bit different. More an allrounder with strong puncheur skills and some decent cobbles/Sprint as you have him. Less mountain though.

More like mountain -5, hills +3, cobbles +1/+2.

He looks like a very good allrounder but those mid 70`s would make him rather useless or a pure domestique while I think, his results show that he is surely capable of some better results by himself as well on hilly terrain.

Like always I'd like to suggest some Greek riders, as I find it increasingly difficult to create a team based around Greece, even when doing so from a domestique point of view.

Georgos Tzortzakis is on his way to decline, and the strongest rider to take his place is Stylianos Farantakis maxing out at 79SPR

Charalampas Kastrantas was added when Ioannis Tamouridis started to decline, but since then, the riders have become much stronger and there are currently no greek riders in the DB that can max at more than 76MO, and that certain rider is useless as he only have one good stat. There is a few 74-75MO riders that are not entirely useless, but at PCT or PT level, they are not good not - not even as domestiques.

Perikles Ilias, who have been one of the few usual contracted riders is 32 next season, are no longer interesting for other teams, and his 75HI is to low to even use as a domestique. Mavrikakis who was added to level him out, is not good enough.

Panagiotis Vlatos was added as a supertalent for the TT, but turning 28 he is reaching the end of his career, and if we want another top talent from Greece, this is the time, so we don't have a couple of years with absolutely nothing on offer. Also, as Polychronos Tzortzakis and Neofytos Sakellaridis are reaching their late years, and 75/76TT is no longer useful, I find it reasonable that we again add a decent chrono rider from Greece, aswell as a prospect for further use.

There have never been a greek cobbler in the game, the best is Karatzios at 73, who might have been useful as a domestique at CT level.

Therefor I suggest to add/change the following riders.

I have suggested that Zisis Soulios keeps his current stats, but have his potential raised from 2 to 5. This will make Zisis Soulios the best ever greek climber, but in Man-Game perspective, nothing out of the ordinary - and something that are added multiple times every season. Maxing out at 77MO, could be used as a classical climber, who is also helpful as a hilly domestique, or developped as a GC rider with 72TT.

Being 22 years old in the upcoming season, he is also a rider for potential development/training, if wanted, but will never become a PT leading material.

I have suggested using Michail Mavrikakis as a base, as most of his stats are useful to build a replica of Ilias/Kastrantas. I have upgraded his useless acceleration, given him slightly higher fighter, resistance and recovery and downhill aswell as upgraded him to potential 5.

He will be very similar to Kastrantas, but with a slight inflation on his key stats, although less strong in flat, fighter and much worse in downhill.

This is a young rider, who threatened the likes of Tzortzakis, Kastrantas and Farantakis in the national TT championship, while being just 19 years old. He have also proved to be relatively good in the uphills, both this season and the previous. In real life, he is probably nothing out of the ordinary, and in MG he will also be less good than Vlatos, and will be ready to take his place once he steps down.

Finally, I have taken Karatzios from maxed to level 3.00. Nothing else have changed. This will make him a decent cobbled domestique for a couple of years, before he decreases again - and by then we can hopefully see a new greek talent move up as a new cobbled protegé.

I hope that this will be the year where it will become possible to build a base around Greek riders, instead of having just 2-3 riders and calling that a "focus area". Rather than picking up similar riders from obscure nations for 50-100K, I guess this could be as good as anything else. And would add quite some joy for me when rebuilding my squad. I have tried to make it semi-realistic, and not too extreme *Caugh* Sri Lanka *Caugh*

Universally, all categories were designed when acceleration had much less importance in PCM, so a fair comment.

One thing I've been pondering, is how to handle that in new additions - including with category changes. Treat it like flat, where the majority are probably in the high 60s low 70s range, and some higher - or continue to spread it around. This 'higher base' may punish existing riders more, but prevents new riders from being unintentionally useless.

Sprinters aside, it's evident that previous additions did get quite a lot of variance here from me. But give every new rider a good base, and add it to more development categories, and it takes away a factor that can distinguish between otherwise similar riders.

Don't see many folks commenting on this, but presume admins have had a decent discussion. My preference is we stay as before - acceleration is a differentiator between similar riders. With the new 'OVR' formula, it looks like riders with higher acceleration will end up with higher wages in renewals, and as everyone now undestands it's importance, can factor in their own thinking in transfers/FA signing.

What will be important is that a handle is kept on the addition of new riders all with OP acceleration (just about to comment in reply to follow!). The existing spread creates character. If we make everyone similar, kind of negates the purpose of having the stat!

From a Colombian perspective, Alvaro Hodeg is the potentially 'big' rider in the 1996 crop. His neo-pro season is going very well, but still not clear just how good he will be (compatriot Gaviria good, or 'just' Viviani good!). As a high profile young rider, assume will already be incorporated into the new DB. In that context whether he follow the stats of Gaviria or more likely becomes a replacement for the aging Catenada in term of DB balance is in the hand of the admins.

On a more general note, it appears of significant importance that our MG DB admin team stays on the ball in terms of incorporating everyones new suggestions that have been proposed in this thread. From an over-arching perspective, a great job has been done to get us where we are today in terms of our unique DB. There have been minor abberations (e.g. the recent Sri Lankan invasion springs to mind; I guess it would have preferably been spread out over a few more years a la some of the African nations history to reflect development due to sponsors in region building a rider base over time). On the whole though we seem to be in a good place. If we were to incorporate all the suggetions thus far without any balancing though, would be a step in the wrong direction. Positive the folks in charge of the DB are on the ball, but thought worth highlighting just in case.

New riders thread is alway an opportunity for folks to propose OP for favoured rider/nations. Some of the most glaring examples have already been commented upon. Flavour of the month for this year is obviously every rider proposed has aweome ACC, come on guys!

I also found it amusing that in one season a whole shit-ton of flat beasts would appear in Slovenia (would be 4/5 of the top flat riders in the country all in one go, more than one on a par with some of the best in the DB). Similarly in response to the 'guidance' from SN

I would imagine that 80 will be the maximum potential stat

We get 3 sprinters proposed for Germany, sprint stat 79, 80, 81.

Amusing also that feels like 90%+ of riders have at least one 'main' stat of 78+. Obviously no future in this sport for domestiques Wink. Always great amusement for me each season in how folks try to 'justify' stats: "He beat me 3 weeks ago in the sprints for the 30 sign, must be 80 sprinter". For top riders that we all recognise, past results make sense. Trying to paint finishing top 20 in a stage of a 2.2 race as a future WC sprinter with green jerseys hanging on the wall come retirement is bonkers. In that situation, much better (imo) making a case of why a strong rider for a particualr terrain type makes sense in the MG narrative/DB balance and then suggest potential young riders from the nation who could 'inherit' those stats in our MG 'reality'.

OK, that's probably long enough for a wall of text rant. Smile.

[Side-note, DB working for me again, very odd abberation but thankfully seems to have magically fixed itself].

In my mind, makes sense that Bernal is left until next season (is only 21 for 2018). He has already shown flashes that indicate that he may well merit being a super-star, but like with Lopez previously, make sense to give a chance for more confirming real life results before commiting to MG profile. Perhaps lvl 2 introduction in 2019. Otherwise he has the potential to end up being 'that guy' who at 23 is super-OP lvl 4 for e.g. Avenir if introduced for this upcoming season. Of course for the DB crew to decide.

I don't know why you felt the need to make such a targeted attack (given that I'm the only one that suggested any Germans at all and it isn't even my team's primary focus). We were told that we need to suggest riders for them to have any chance of getting into the game at all. I don't know as much cycling or the MG as you maybe, but I put in a lot of work to find these riders and make the suggestions. I don't get any races telecast here, and most streams are geo-restricted, so pardon me for not having a PhD on the subject.

Question for admins: Does every rider that people report in this thread get in as suggested?

From what I've heard it's not the case. You've been in the game longer than me and I think you are well aware of that yourself. So I don't understand the need for this ridicule. Also I don't see you making any suggestions, so please don't mock others' efforts.

And some new talents to be added. I have tried making the ones that deliver on multiple scenes versatile, but without excelling in any case. Good riders, but not superior by any means, also means some puzzling from the managers are needed.

Some of them might be too soon, I'll let others judge that. In that case, they can be saved for next season as a base to look back on, when re-assesing their 2018-19 season.

And maybe Tiesj Benoot needs an upgrade Wink

If any of these have already been mentioned, I apologize, but maybe it still makes sense to tweak Smile

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

And I'll put in a few more talents in play for the DB:

Seems like a relatively talented sprinter, much similar to his old man, but he can not TT nor prologue at all. He doesn't seem good on cobbles either. I have tried looking at a combination of Appolonio and Guardini as a base. Most italian sprinters are relatively old, and only Bonifazio is really upcoming.

Leonardo shows some potential in several areas, but nothing out of the ordinary anywhere really, so I have added him as a rider who can develop into numerous types, which gives a nice puzzle.

Kämna is an undisputed talent, who have his primary quality in the timetrials, but I definately believe he could become a good GC rider/climber aswell... So here he is as a mini Coppel/Ignatiev who are both on their way back. Or as a talented GC rider, or a relatively strong puncheur.

Cosnefroy is a brilliant talent, who have some amazing U23 one day results. He also seems to be a relatively fast sprinter and can TT well - BUT... To me he seems very much like an attacking kind of rider. So I have tried to replicate that, while knowing that other options are also likely to be chosen.

Doesn't seem very talented, but only recently started riding releatively big races, and seems to cope OK. With some freedom I expect him to become better than he is now. I have started him out at level 3 due to his age.

I believe Léo Vincent is missed quite badly in the DB, and should have an upgrade. I have used Warren Barguil as a base, and downgraded him to match up with Romain Bardet, only better backup stats, and TT.
