The premier event on the calendar for the U23s is upon us. The course is, as always, one for the climbers, with three mountain stages and a ITT looking likely to be the deciding stages.
| Name | MON | HIL | TT | STA | RES | REC | ACC | | Herklotz | 81 | 75 | 72 | 77 | 78 | 76 | 75 | | Borisavljevic | 75 | 72 | 72 | 72 | 72 | 73 | 64 | | Carthy | 76 | 71 | 64 | 74 | 74 | 74 | 67 | | Lopez | 73 | 73 | 68 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 72 | | Mohoric | 70 | 78 | 63 | 76 | 71 | 71 | 75 | | Faglum Karlsson | 73 | 70 | 69 | 74 | 71 | 71 | 66 | | Ranaweera | 73 | 70 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 70 | 64 | | Shirota | 73 | 73 | 58 | 68 | 67 | 71 | 76 | | Moscon | 71 | 74 | 65 | 71 | 75 | 73 | 69 |
With last year's winner Merwahi Kudus ineligible to participate this season, the door is open for Herklotz to reign supreme in this race. He is the most complete rider on the startlist. His climbing prowess on the mountains is unmatched by the competition. It would need something extraordinary for him not to win this race!
In what looks to be the battle for the next-best, Borisavljevic and Carthy look to be the best equipped for the podium battle. The former is better on the hills and in the ITT, and it is the latter skill which might give him a slight edge in this battle. The latter will be hoping his slightly superior skills on the longer slopes gives him enough of an advantage over three stages.
Lopez looks to be a wildcard for the lower podium spots in his first season in the MG. He has made a excellent impression this season so far, but is still far from the finished product, even at this level.
Faglum Karlsson, Ranaweera and Shirota are comparable climbers to Lopez, but they either lose out on the hills or are not fast enough against the clock to really feature in the podium battle. They should be in the battle for the top 5 though.
Mohoric and Moscon are two riders who will be hoping to make best use of the hill stage to gain time over the stronger climbers. It is unlikely that they will be able to hang on to the pure climbers on stages 5, 7 and 9. Despite this, the former is a genuine op 5 contender, while the latter should be aiming for a lower top 10.
| Name | MON | STA | RES | REC | ACC | | Herklotz | 81 | 77 | 78 | 76 | 75 | | Carthy | 76 | 74 | 74 | 74 | 67 | | Seboka | 76 | 61 | 67 | 71 | 65 | | Borisavljevic | 75 | 72 | 72 | 73 | 64 | | Lopez | 73 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 72 | | Faglum Karlsson | 73 | 74 | 71 | 71 | 66 | | Ranaweera | 73 | 71 | 72 | 70 | 64 | | Shirota | 73 | 68 | 67 | 71 | 76 | | Sembukutti | 73 | 66 | 67 | 71 | 69 |
Herklotz is head and shoulders above all other climbers in this race. His only competition is likely to be himself and staying upright on the bike. He should breeze through the mountains if he manages to stay upright. Just like in the GC, the battle on the slopes behind Herklotz will be a close one, with several similarly capable riders.
| Name | HIL | STA | RES | REC | ACC | | Mohoric | 78 | 76 | 71 | 71 | 75 | | Herklotz | 75 | 77 | 78 | 76 | 75 | | Moscon | 74 | 71 | 75 | 73 | 69 | | Gebrezgabihier | 74 | 69 | 72 | 70 | 64 | | Fritsch | 74 | 72 | 67 | 70 | 69 | | Ludvigsson | 74 | 73 | 69 | 67 | 74 | | Lopez | 73 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 72 | | Shirota | 73 | 68 | 67 | 71 | 76 | | Borisavljevic | 72 | 72 | 72 | 73 | 64 | | Turgis | 72 | 69 | 75 | 67 | 70 |
The punchers list throws up some different names but Herklotz is still one of the top riders in this field. Mohoric is the strongest puncher, and along with Moscon, are the only ones to have serious GC ambitions among the riders in the above list. They'll need to ride a perfect hill stage if they are to achieve that.
| Name | SPR | ACC | | Ewan | 81 | 79 | | Willwohl | 77 | 76 | | Bauhaus | 76 | 73 | | Gaviria | 75 | 80 | | Kemboi | 74 | 76 | | Lutsyshyn | 74 | 76 | | Kamberaj | 73 | 72 | | Contreras | 73 | 76 | | Silva | 73 | 74 |
The sprint field is similar to the climbers field, with Ewan being much stronger than the next best sprinter. Behind him, it is expected to be a close battle between the likes of Willwohl, Bauhaus, Gaviria and the rest. However, sprinting doesn't exactly play out like climbing, as form on the day plays a bigger role. Can someone really spring a surprise though?
| Name | TT | | Mullen | 78 | | Würtz | 75 | | Politt | 73 | | Leung | 73 | | Herklotz | 72 | | Borisavljevic | 72 | | Per | 72 | | Daniel | 72 | | Van Niekerk | 72 | | Zakarin | 72 |
Mullen is the strongest TT rider. Those behind him are barely separable and separated by just three stat-points. Herklotz and Borisavljevic can be expected to achieve a high position in the ITT among the GC contenders.
| Name | PRL | | Mullen | 78 | | Leung | 77 | | Herklotz | 76 | | Andersen | 76 | | Kemboi | 76 | | Faglum Karlsson | 75 | | Schomber | 74 | | Van Aert | 74 | | Jiang | 74 |
Here too, Mullen is the strongest, although the competition is much closer. Herklotz is strong enough to get the win here and realistically hope to keep the jersey till the end! The likes of Leung, Andersen and Kemboi will be hoping they can change that.

Great that this is finally happening.
Hopefully we'll be able to help Faglum Karlsson get a good result!

A race I always look forward to. With 7 of our own riders and 1 Ayubowan rider we have a really good team this year. Just a few of those OP lvl4 in the race will hurt our chances of a stage win.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Always annoys me how there are 1-2 OP riders in every discipline, ruins it for me a bit, as we have a really awesome varied battle, for 4th place instead of first.
We have an good breaks team at least though and I'm pretty sure Pedersen and Bengtsen aren't nearly good enough sprinters too stop that. Would it be too much to dream of a repeat of Veyhe's awesome queen stage win last year? Answer: Yes.
Awesome preview Abhishek, thanks!

No competition for Herklotz. I'm still pissed that I wasted Haig's last Avenir previous season..
Jayco/Garmin with a breakaway line up. So go on the attacks!
Thanks, Abi. It's an U23 event though

I'm sorry.
If everything goes the normal way, feel free to treat second place as the real winner. But this season, I kinda need this.
In advance, thank you SotD and fjhoekie for your riders' support.

More like 4th or 5th, but if it means anything, I'll cheer for Herklotz for best Level 4+.

We have a bunch of guys here for the first time, but none of them will be good enough to compete. So hopefully they will showcase as great breakaway guys and domestiques!

Hopefully we can get some nice performances from our riders. Würtz will probably struggle in the TT after the mountains, but not sure how that will work out. SKA probably our biggest hope in the prologue though, since Würtz sucks a little bit in the prologues compared to ITTs.
Together with Grøndahl Jansen, I hope they can do a good job for Willwohl in the sprints. Should be a decent train on this level, but will be hard to beat Ewan in the sprints anyway.
Same with Herklotz, should be unbeatable.
And while I'll cheer for Würtz and SKA in the PRL/TT, I wouldn't mind seeing our former loanee Ryan Mullen grabbing a stage win.
