A bit disappointed on how the rest of the team is doing though, especially Boswell and Herrada. A shame the last climb didn't give any points. I wouldn't mind the KoM jersey
In the end, it's good that Gesink put it one hell of a performance and hopefully this time he took the yellow jersey for good.

1. Congrats alex.
2. Congrats cio. Herklotz is overperforming in the Volta as usual
3. Really lucky day for us. Reis found is mojo and is back on track for a possible top10.
4. What a wacky stage:
The break is caught by the group of GC favourites with 10 km to go.
Vakoc, Sanchez Gil,Dees and Edmondson have got up to the leading group from the peloton. The peloton are now more than 2' behind.
9 km. Huge acceleration from Gesink. He is followed by GC leader Yates, Keinath and Herklotz. Nepomnyachsniy is belatedly trying to bridge the gap.
Behind them, the peloton recover to catch the group ahead of them. The peloton is now 81 riders strong. Most of the riders involved in the latest crash are back in this group.
7 km to go.
Did the peloton recover 2min in 2km?
5. Unexpected burnout from Yates. It looked like Avelino yesterday.

Two minutes?! And an extra one on Yates? That was one hell of a daily form Silvio!
Since we don't actually consider Gesink to be in the same race, that's a great stage win and yellow jersey for Herklotz
I would quite like less rain for the remaining stages, as probably the only factor that could make us lose that advantage. #jinx
The next stage looks like it depends a lot on who attacks first on the final hill, I hope for a similar result as stage 2 at least: Herklotz in the podium mix and Demare adding points towards green for at least a 2-3 there.
Of course, no stage without moaning: why are Bongiorno and Nerz here.

Never a dull moment with PCM is there? Yeah they did. Also I've noticed gaps like 1'30" show up in the info bar when the groups are barely separate, with just about 2-3 bike lengths gap. This was probably the same. I think they caught up on a false flat.

PCM calculates gaps from the front of one group to the front of the next group, so a sufficiently large and/or stretched out group can easily "cover" two minutes on the road thanks to the condensed distance scale.

Congrats to both eBuddy and Puma. What a nice race for both teams.

Consistency is the key I guess. Lundberg has been pretty terrible, but his persistence gives him the KOM lead. I just hope he keeps getting in the breaks and fighting for it. It's really nice to see when you have no leaders to root for going into the race.

The results are just so extremly, extremly poor. No one joining the breaks either. Hopeless. Watson should easily have been inside the top 20, but it's just so, so, so, so bad. Makes me wonder if I've missed a crash or something.
Nice to see Aker winning though! Congrats to ember, classy ride from Teuns

Argh. Wrong rider in the break. Haas, why didn't you join the fun again? KoM lost, as to be expected. A pity Canty couldn't survive until the end - well, he didn't even come close though
Dyball doing fine enough so far - despite his crash yesterday. If he somehow hangs on to a Top-20 in the GC until the mountain stage, it should be a good position to maybe join an early break? Or mid range attack?
Good to see the team joining those breaks. Our only chance to be of significance here, so please, keep attacking!

Next time, I'd like to know when Nerz gets injured. What a waste of RD for our climbers. 27 minutes combined loss.
Good sprint by Herklotz. Bonus seconds are irrelevant, Gesink has this in the bag anyway. I appreciate getting into the mix for green though.
Demare doesn't seem to get enough AI priority in these stages. I do hope he wins at least one of the next two stages and podiums the other.

Perfect comeback as a team there after a rather poor first few stages of the race. Teuns with a monster ride, picking up many KoM points in addition to the stage win as well. Thrilled to see him win it, especially as he should only get better next year Hopefully that stage means he'll join more breakaways with an eye on the KoM classification. That could be a way back into some decent points for us here.
For Beltran, I must say it's disappointing to see him not join the group at 17 seconds, but with Teuns winning, it's much easier to forget about another bad performance from our leader
And thank you, tastasol! |

Hey nice victory, ember, congrats!
Thanks for the clarification Abishkek!
Halfway through the race and we're still going really bad. Reis has had a horrible day, a strong day and a regular day in the hilly stages. Borges and Antunes have had 3 horrible days though.
Maybe Avelino can win the rest of the flat stages

Wow, how can Gesink and Herklotz put almost 3 minutes to the likes of Choi, Reis and Keinath on a climb that is neither extremely steep nor extremely long in just 9 km?
The climb is this:
Sometimes PCM is very unrealistic. Every year in Volta there is a MTF in Senhora da Graça. In 2017 15th place was 1'04 behind the winer. In 2016 the 15th was more than 1'30 behind and in that stage the penultimate climb was Barragem do Alvao, 10 kms at %7 (with some cobbled parts at the lower parts of climb)
In this PCM version the stage is even flatter than 2017 version and top 10 is separated by 3(!) minutes.

Gracias Alberto.

Unlucky for Moazemi to miss the deciding move, but the damage isn't too big. I hope he is more focused from now on. |

I will probably not be able to post a stage tonight so stage 6 will be the only one for the day.

Always a pity to not stick to the winning break. Gunman did well though..

Why not go in the break guys? The horror show continues. Congrats to bbl though, strong ride from Mendes.
