Jeez, pretty much every WCC rider involved in the crashes on stage 2. The prologue had also been a little below par as well considering a number of the squad have 70+ prologue stat, but no-one in the top half. My, my, things even worse on stage 3. Pre-race I really thought that both Visconti and Armee were good shouts for top 10 overall, but half-way through, our 'leading' rider is not even in the top 70!
I recall that stage 2 also caused carnage with multiple crashes in last years edition. No wind (at least this go round), so not quite sure why this repeat performance would be the case.
One ray of light was Sanogo giving his NC jersey a good airing on stage 3, looked awesome for one of my favourite development riders .

When Rinner crashed I just though fuck it all is over.. But he finished in the front group Flaksis is injured I think it's obvious and he won't be able to do anything in the cobbles I'm afraid

Ooou, 2nd place for Kasa in the first stage. I didn't expect that. But I think that he can't be in top 10 at the end of the race :/

Its been an odd race so far
Glad we still have someone left for the GC in Ford, flying under the radar a little in the top 10 so far which is good, hope for a good result from him tomorrow as well but who knows what will happen? Thwaites should do well in the next stage as well but you can never tell
Hope someone who is better than Robert joins break aways though, he is just sooooo bad when the road rises a little

Let's go Arthur mate! Great to see one of his attacks finally stick, just a shame not to pick up a gap on the field. Still though, 3rd is solid but we have the cobbles coming that should throw a spanner in the field.
Also, Garmin, what is going on over there
Cheers for the report Croatia, keep up sending the wins Arthur's way!

Stunning team performance! Shame Roux couldn't finish it off and there weren't many gaps - bye bye GC!

GC-wise, things are going perfectly at this point. Only Gatto and MdVP have a higher COB stat than Gilbert of those who are within reach of GC, as it's awesome for us that Hugentobler and especially Schoonbrodt have their GC hopes almost over.
If the fourth stage is ridden hard, we should see high gaps to the pure puncheurs like Roux, Vichot, Monfort... (taking as reference Geraardsbergen-Bosberg, with a "similar" profile to this stage, where Gilbert was around top30. So then the pure puncheur will have to ride S5 crazy to gain time, which can benefit Gilbert over riders like Gatto, MdVP and Reus, who could end up in the same group as Gilbert in S4.
Great report again Croatia!

Really happy with Reus' showing so far, a stage win on stage 1 and still holds 2nd place, hopefully it continues and we can hold on to that first place in the CT |

Yeah, i'm sure he'll still be a threat in GC after S4 with his 52 in cobbles

Two top 10s followed by a stage he'll surely lose minutes in, then a hilly stage? It's San Luis 2.0
Seriously though more hopeful for Jams naturally if he didn't tire himself out too much, since he's clearly stronger than most puncheur-cobblers in the hills and, on paper, on the cobbles Gilbert is my pick though, what a great boost for Repsol it'd be. Speaking of which, I shouldn't have revealed my Jams hopes...

The fact that anyone is guessing the outcome, shows that the composition of the race profile is perfect me like

That was a pure shitty stage I just hope for a decent stage in the hard hilly one left...
And for once we are in a breakaway, it had to be Rodriguez who is completely useless in cobbles and was dropped almost the first
And i wouldn't bet anything on this race continuing in next season's calendar

Yeah. Cobbled hilly stages. We're working on it for next season.

the thing is: the first 70 kilometers the race was straight awesome...riders falling out here and there, and I was almost sure I lose my control riders on the stage...but the longer the race went the slower was the pace...

I'm proposing a massive cobbled downhill mountain TTT classic. Preferrably ridden on the moon. Can't be much worse than this. I do appreciate the reports though, thanks Croatia
Anyway, with Schoonbroodt having lost time before, this may have been a best-case scenario for us. If there will be time gaps in the final stage (and that if is a big one this race...), we should be able to finish with two riders in the top 10. Not the riders I expected to be up front, but it still hypes me up for the final stages |
