Tour de San Luis
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c2hc/c2hc_tsl.png

The new month kicks off with a prestigious race in the CT: the C2HC rated Tour de San Luis in Argentia. Being a part of the MG calendar since 2010, the race goes into it's 8th edition this year. It started with six stages in 2010 before adding a seventh stage in the next edition. Since last year, we have eight stages. Two timetrials, two flat stages and four hilly stages. We will see many different types of riders racing for some glory here. Obviously, the puncheurs with decent TT skills should be expected to fight for the GC victory.

There's some fame to be gained in this mission for yellow (which as actually green colored here), as the winner would join some spectacular names on the list of past race winners: Rui Costa (2016), David Zabriskie (2013), Alejandro Valverde (2012) and Rein Taaramäe (2010 and 2011) as the biggest champions from San Luis.

Puncheurs with good timetrial skills are actually hard to find and so the list of riders, who can do both hills and TTs is rather thin here: Boily, Diggle as the only premium puncheurs with 70 TT. Which could make them the top favorites for the GC, even though the 20km long ITT won't give them a huge advantage over guys like Chaves, Monfort or Pellaud.

Tvetcov, Durasek, Hollenstein and Zoidl as clearly the best TT riders amongst all 75+ (Zoidl 74) puncheurs. If someone like Tvetcov does well on the hilly days, he's surely a threat for a high GC result as well.

Roux leading a strong Xero squad, which also features the already mentioned Diggle and Bennett/Nzeke. Definitely a force here - and they will certainly hope to avoid further dramas like just happened in Andorra. Squire a strong support or co-leader for Chaves. And Repsol comes with the ever dangerous legendary duo Gilbert/Cunego. Some interesting teams for sure.

Grippo and Lejman won't like the TT kilometres. Rodriguez Galindo, Vichot and maybe Othman (another timetrial hating puncheur) as some riders to watch out for. Of course there's also Hollenstein, Wyss and Gaimon, who can be possible Top-10 contenders when they are in shape.

The prologue will be Chavanne's stage to lose. The clear favorite and he delivered in the Tour of Langkawi earlier this season. Really hard to see someone else stealing this one.

Mullen, Hofer, Grabovski, Ma and Hacecký as the favorites for the 20km ITT then. Some possible threats like Vandousselare, Van Zandbeek, Kneisky, Vandewalle or Cruz. And of course Zoidl, who could be will within a GC contending situation then.

As for the flat stages, we do have five 80 SP sprinters: Haller, Nizzolo, Salleh, Castaneda and Kip. Havik, Clarke, Vingerling and Lay as the biggest challengers, while Gatto and Kruopis may also aim for the less challenging hilly stages. Particularly Gatto as an interesting rider here, as his HIL deficit against the best puncheurs actually ain't that big.

At least stage 6, maybe also stage 3 look like the mountain stat would've been a nice addition to the favorites table. Will be interesting to see if that's a correct assumption.

jandal7
Well shit Bennett is our leader... absolute best squad I've ever fielded with three top puncheurs, three top climbers, Juodvalkis and a lone sprinter. Goal is top 5 which Diggle, Roux and Bennett could all do. Plan is to have roux or Bennett in yellow by the time trial so they get a boost, and pray Diggle can hang around in the hills to use his good TT stat. Thanks for a nice preview tsmoha, let's hope your PC treats us less like Andorra, a little more like Gisborne Pfft

Damn tsmoha, you're reporting so many of my races that you're practically deciding my entire season Pfft

First stage race for my puncheurs. Hopefully the MO stat won't affect us too much. Aiming for a top 5 with Monfort; anything below top 10 will be a disappointment. Also keeping an eye on Kip and a potential yell.. green jersey after stage 2. We'll see.

Aquarius97
Hopefully Cunego or Gilbert can slip into the top10, but i believe that Kneisky in both TT is our best shot at scoring points in this race Frown

I hope that Boily can get away with the win, for our own rankings situation, but it would be cool if Xero can take the win after so much mis-fortune lately, and especially in the mountains Smile

Hard to predict what will happen here. Jaser is unfit for the sprints, passalacqua won't be with the big guys in the hills. Clarebout and Uwizeyimana can perhaps fight for a Top15 if in very good shape.

I hope to god after Andorra, there will be good news here. Tvetcov is a nice outsider here for me, and honestly this may be his best chance at a GC win all season for him.
A few nice results here would do nicely to put our season back on track Smile

Expectations are very low here, see as we seem to do better without a leader and unfortunately we sent Chaves here.

We have a team built to lead Haller to a few stage wins, hopefully we deliver.

And who knows, maybe durasek pulls smth off in the GC considering his nice TT and Hill abilities

We need another over-performance from Wyss to have a good result here.

Thanks for the preview tsmoha.

Tsmoha, back at it again with his killer preview tricks.

We’ve thrown caution to the wind with this lineup, shooting for stage wins in the time trials and hopefully a sprint to make up for Vichot’s inevitable decline throughout the race. This may be one for his punching partner, Hollenstein, to take on an eventual leadership role.

That being said, watch Vichot prove me wrong and handle the time trials/recovery deficit with ease, cruising into a top 5 finish. I’d be thrilled with that, and Hollenstein chipping in with a top 15 GC result. It’s been a good run since the beginning of June, keep those summer delusions of grandeur going, squad!

Crossing by fingers to see good performance by my former riders such as Marcel Wyss, Hakon Frengstad Berger and Aidis Kruopis! Smile

Didn't you have Clarke for a bit or is that one of my other guys?

Congratz Sauber! Sad that Chavanne stopped Uwizeyimana from the U25 lead but he will wear the jersey so it's not so bad.
Good start but it's a very short prologue so it may mean nothing.

Very nice performance from Ma. Now looking forward to see what Kip can do in stage 2.

Grats to Sauber for their 1-2!

Well then, Mullen and Hacecky, you're both bums.

Congrats to sammyt and hopefully the rest of the race doesn't go like this prologue.
