Impressive comeback by Schleck!

Abal struggeld here and loosing some valuable time, Kritskiy and Machado was always going to pass him in the GC but if he can hang in to his 7th place it would be wonderful!

Next stage will be critical for him but he have looked good on every hill stages so far both in Vuelta and Giro then its time to deliver on the TT.

Congrats once again SN.

Olivier doing exactly what we need from Haig. Come on. Try!

What a turn of events. Just when you thought Pluchkin would bring the tide of things around, Andy takes this rabbit out of the hat. What a victory and what a way to smash your opponents. Congrats again, SN!

Dombo with his panache and Madrazo with his consistency still with a chance, but the moldovan seems to have settled with 4th.

Abal witha big loss today awakes the fight between him, Kritskiy and Machado, who will surely lose time in the TT, but there's more mountains and hills so who knows.

Thank you for another two great reports, Tamijo!

Must admit I had to laugh when I saw our "train" for Holst Enger on stage 13, with our GC riders Galta and Guldhammer being the domestiques Pfft Seems like we should have done the sprint for Guldhammer, as I thought Holst Enger was left in a pretty decent position, but unfortunately he simply didn't have it to fight for second place.

And then stage 14, which was kind of a little disaster seeing Galta drop around three minutes to no less than eight riders. Suddenly that top 10 overall seems to be in jeopardy, with Lecuisinier, Monsalve and Velits all coming dangerously close.

But good to see us go for the breakaway with Stake Laengen, eventhough we really need to put Nesset or Guldhammer there, seeing the other breakaway riders and their mountain stats. Nesset could be the ideal rider, and then Guldhammer can sit next to Galta (though, that seems like too much to ask, judging by this stage) Pfft

And what a comeback that was from Schleck! Congratulations, SN!

This finish need to be shared; cant understand from words how fast Andy was compared to the other, without seeing it with you own eyes, looks like the other are taking a break.

Excellent report once again... If they weren't so amazingly great, I would've asked to stop this race days ago... What a massive letdown.

What? What? What?

Well König just earned himself hero status, all prior underperformances in this race are forgiven. And Schleck has had his Steven Roche moment, only this one ending so much better, with a win.

Odds of a 2nd rider in the Top 20 are reducing, but the way Schleck is going, supporting him is going to be all the more important. Aker attacking on these stages is looking ominous for the teams classification. Not sure how the TT will affect things there, but if we do see a big breakaway on a climbing stage, we can surely expect them to be in it. And Kittel survives the last mountain stage before the TT. Hopefully he is working for the team on the flat, and with the TTT he already has had his main target for the race. Suspect he will be far too tired when the TT does come, but will be interesting to see.

Thanks for another super in-depth report Tamijo, and for the bonus features. Always nice to see the video of a victory. Baffling that he would get dropped in the first place, even more so that he made it all back up. And thanks to others for the congratulations - both now and any earlier in the race.

Very risky for Olivier to go in the breakaway today I felt, with so much flat, but it's paid off. Surely it's time for other big names to join him too. It's a shame to see Galta lose so much, while Velits not even the best of his team on this stage - not showing anything like his Giro showings.

Now to see if Dombrowski will go as big on Stage 15 as he did on the previous hill stage.

Well, Velits continues to suffer here a lot, but what a ride from Kulhavy, great result and moving up in GC as well! At least some better news as we are without Giogieri and Hirt.

Schleck really impressive. Great to see König being a great help for him. Smile

Wow Andy! Impressive recovery, congrats SN.

Another good ride by Arndt, sticking with his usual company of Abal and one of the Aker boys. I hope Olivier has used up his breakaway opportunities though.

Now for a promising-looking hilly stage, which is yet another important chance of building up a TT cushion to stay ahead of some guys before the final mountains.

Very happy for Prades as he manages to get a fantastic stage win in our home GT! He's been active in the breakaways and arguably deserved that win.
Good to see VDB try something but sad to see he is clearly struggling with injury or he and Olivier could have gone all the way there.
Glad to see Zardini making it look fairly easy in 25th in the GC. Hopefully he is more active on the hilly stages that remain.

OlegTinkov
Thanks for the changes in GC table, nice addition. Kritskiy now number 5 in GC, let's see if he can keep it, or - in a crazy last week - even go up an extra spot!

Nice report and nice idea with the GC changes.

Olivier with a fantastic attack and 3rd is fine and gaining time on others. Still think he should have saved energy for a later stage with more KoM points. Maybe still happening. Wink

Keizer as well with a solid ride. For a moment I was worried seeing him once more behind others but he rode a steady pace and passed some of them in the end again. Still not having seen a big performance by him in this race. So hopefully he saves his energy for the ITT, which I really want him to win, which might be difficult against Pluchkin/Madrazo.

What to say about Schleck? No idea. Even on a "bad" day still the strongest? Dombrowski coming closest and also Madrazo is having a nice GT here for once again. Pluchkin though struggling.

How, this is a top-notch Froome Vuelta impression by Schleck, yo-yoing at the back, falling behind, coming back strong within the last kilometers and winning the stage. Shock

Finally Lecuisinier performed ~on par with what could be expected. Still no stellar performance from him...

Galta with a really bad stage though. Too bad we couldn't take those 2 seconds on him... Hopefully that is something that can be done in the TT.

[PTM] Vuelta a Espana - End of Week Two

2nd Week Review

On Stage 8 from Guadix to Lorca, we saw a 7 rider breakaway take the stage, fastest in the end Taylor Gunman from Jayco - Cobra9, that was also the day where Gianluca Brambilla lost almost 5 minutes due to a puncture.

On stage 9 from Luarca to Ermita de Alba, we saw another dominant ride from Andy Schleck on a tough mountain route, not a lot of time but it adds up.

Day 8 Guadix

At stage 10 from Sierra Nevada to Valdepeñas de Jaén we saw Joseph Dombrowski yet again attack, this time on a semi mountain route, to claim his first victory. Banking some impressive gap’s to the other favorites. A huge blow especially to Nemiroff – ABBYY, Aleksandr Pluchkin losing way too much time on what looked like a fine route for him.

At Stage 11 from Múrcia to Orihuela, we got the first mass sprint of the week, despite a hard climb mid-stage, Sondre Holst Enger fastest in the end to claim his first victory in the race.

Day 10 Valdepeñas de Jaén

At Stage 12 from La Seu d'Urgell to Loudenvielle we had a lot of action, early attack from Daan Olivier, later attempts from Jack Haig, Martijn Keizer, Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier and most effective Yonathan Monsalve, in the end Angel Madrazo taking his first win in front of Joseph Dombrowski, both gaining some time.

At Stage 13 from Andorra la Vella to Lleida we saw Eduard Prades taking it from the breakaway.

And finally yesterday a thrilling stage, from Solares - Lagos of Covadonga where Andy Schleck seemingly in trouble came back in last minute to claim his 4th stage win.

Thanks for that review. Nice little write-up and a nice feature Smile

Can't be unhappy with Haig on 17th and a random breakaway win so far. Would be nice to see us trying again though. Especially Haig should attempt something like Olivier is doing these days. He's certainly in the perfect GC position to do so. Just try and I won't complain!
