Cacak Classic
Category: C2 | 168,7 km | terrain: bumpy | Serbia |
The first addition of the new Cacak Classic found it's way on the calendar for the 2017 season. Over 168 kilometers it rounds a circuit 4 times, until the final uphill kilometers decide the race.
The ciruit does not seem too selective, hence we could well see a rather big group coming together to the final few kilometers. A good mixture of a fast punch good uphill legs should probably do the trick for the riders that aim for the win here.

Of the favourites of course the trio of Chaves, Roux and Boily stand out. However, Boily may have the best of chances out of them, as he has a decent sprint stat on offer. All 3 got a fast kick anyway. Roux has the advantage of the strongest team to set him up.
Of the other puncheurs Vichot stands out with his furious acceleration. Also Anderson can offer some fast finishing speed, which may help if Rybakov, Smukulis and Gaimon bring him into position.
The possibly interesting team here is Lufthansa, having riders for every scenario. The two best climbers here with great attacking stats, a fancy roleur to attack in van Emden and a great captain in Wyss with Costa as support. Depth advantages also may go to Sauber for their attacking hill depth. Further interesting attackers are there in Pozzo, Kneisky and Bernas.
Wiggle also offers a good set--up for captain Haussler, that has some nice support in the names of Delage, Dowling and Finetto to have a sprint race, of that also local hero Mezgec and dark horses Kruopis and Juarez would benefit.
Favourite Check:
Boily
Roux, Chaves, Vichot
Diggle, Anderson, Wyss
Bardet, Juarez, Haussler, Pellaud, Hugentobler
Mezgec, Kruopis, van Emden, Bernas, Gilbert, Zahni, Delage, Destribois

My current confidence on my hilly squad has decreased so much recently, that my best chance to score something in this race might be through Kneisky. And he being mentioned in the preview hopefully means that a rider like him, despite his not high hill stat (67) could attack from long range.
Great preview Croatia!

Well we've had a torrid time in the last two months, here starts a crucial time for us to not fall further behind as lots of teams could all go past us this month if we do bad here and meh in Euskal.
Have a feeling this will be much more like a classic from last year than the excitement of this year, with us in 12th in a boring race finishing in a sprint. Desperately hope I'm wrong for everyone's sake Hoping for Roux to be in a select group, preferably without Boily, to contest the finish as a solo seems unlikely. For us we have to win here but without a major final climb it's hard to predict: could easily see a KBK situation but in the hills. Down to Nzeke, Lloyd, Davison and Diggle to make the race hard and set Roux up for a winning situation. I wouldn't mind MTK for a shot at a minor result so long as we drop all the sprinters Thanks for a detailed preview Croatia, love the star graphics and the analysis of different race situations!

Not in for this one, but interesting to see another hilly battle. I've got a feeling on Roux although this is not at all a race that suits him perfectly.

Does MON stat really matter in that route?

Aiming for a top 10 here, but I think it will probably come down to positioning in a 20-30 man bunch sprint which is normally a little bit of a lottery so we could easily miss out on that target.

We got our puncheurs out in full force here.Seeing the quality of the competition a top 5 or even a win if we are super lucky shouldn't be off the charts. A Smukulis miracle could do the bits as well.

Bit of an XP race for us, but I'd like to think either Bernas or maybe even Pedersen could pull something out of the bag in the right circumstances (for Pedersen I guess they'd need to be really really perfect ), otherwise, please a man in the break (not Kolev ).
Roux or Jaurez to win, depending on how it's raced. Thanks for the great preview Croatia - nice to see you reporting again!

My optimism about Chaves has significantly decreased with his lack of results in other punchy races. To the point where simply hoping for a podium seems to be a reach. But hey at least I've sent a full squad to this race... maybe that will make the difference.

Very happy with that races considering we didn't bring van def hugenhaben because we thought we could utilize his MO stat in better races for his abilities
Luckily kratochvila and durasek did great and picked up the slack with 2 top 10s. Hopefully this is the start for our push to regain that top stop that we lost a while ago. |

The finish was kinda weird but i love the results. Wyss is one of my favourite riders in CT and Lufthansa one of my favourite teams so i love the winning move. Congrats Abi!

Still only 1 point out of C2 for us.
Good day for Kanepejs in the break for us, just a shame Bernas didn't try anything, I'd say that we were visible though and that's a success.
Really cool to see Wyss take the win, gratz Abhishek! And thanks for the great report Croatia!

Yay Wyss! It wasn't to be for us so glad he win in fine style too!
Disappointed by the result but not by the performance! Roux with great intent there, unlucky to have no companions/a headwind. However at the same time we have to say this was bit the start to the "Maynaissance" we wanted, and to be honest, st this point the one we needed.
Thanks for a lovely report Croatia, good to see you back!

This result just shows me that Wyss still has it after his strong year with Vontobel a couple of seasons ago and that adding him, Hollenstein and Pellaud to my Swiss Puncher core should be a long term future target.
Got to say I'm not too happy with our result here but at least we continue to keep the ball rolling and pick up minor points in every outing, even when we have a disappointing one.
