Not the typical pan-flat, flat classic, this race will have the riders go over four short climbs with steep descents before completing five laps of a circuit with a double summit hill and a smaller bump on the road. It remains to be seen how much the hills effect the result. Last year was the first running of this race and it came down to a bunch sprint. This might be the best indication of what is to come.
| Name | HIL | STA | REC | SPR | ACC | | Thorsen | 54 | 63 | 69 | 82 | 85 | | Lo Cicero | 64 | 71 | 79 | 84 | 78 | | Holloway | 69 | 77 | 78 | 80 | 82 | | Goss | 67 | 73 | 81 | 82 | 78 | | Nelson | 60 | 70 | 79 | 81 | 81 | | Vantomme | 64 | 76 | 79 | 82 | 78 | | Itami | 61 | 71 | 78 | 80 | 82 | | Guerao | 64 | 71 | 81 | 83 | 76 | | Keukeleire | 70 | 73 | 76 | 80 | 79 | | Van Asbroeck | 71 | 75 | 79 | 80 | 78 | | Rowe | 66 | 76 | 79 | 79 | 80 | | Moser | 67 | 73 | 76 | 80 | 79 | | Van der Sande | 70 | 78 | 76 | 79 | 79 | | Haller | 65 | 72 | 76 | 80 | 79 | | Castañeda | 59 | 71 | 78 | 80 | 79 |
Last year's winner, Andreas Stauff is not here to defend his crown. In fact, the highest placed rider from last year's event is Ricki Nelson, who had finished 6th. He should once again be a challenger for the top 5.
Thorsen and Lo Cicero are the top favourites. The former boasts incredible acceleration from a rolling start while the latter is the fastest man in the race. One will be hoping to start his sprint as late as possible while the other will want get things going from a longer distance out. Thorsen will be hoping that the hills play absolutely no part, as going uphill is his glaring weakness.
Holloway is another rider who will depend on his acceleration rather than top speed. Novatek need a good result and they will be hopeful that their sprinter can deliver. Itami is very similar in terms of sprinting, but his stamina and climbing skills give him a disadvantage against Holloway.
Goss and Vantomme are identical sprinters, and similar to Lo Cicero. Their strength is top speed which makes this pair favourites for a podium here.
The likes of Keukeliere, Van Der Sande and Van Asbroeck will be hoping that the hills will come into play. They are slightly down on sprinting abilities, but are the best among the favourites when it comes to going uphill.
The other contenders for this race are mentioned in the table above.
| Name | HIL | STA | REC | SPR | ACC | | Bennett | 63 | 74 | 80 | 79 | 79 | | Hayakawa | 64 | 75 | 76 | 79 | 79 | | Vingerling | 61 | 72 | 76 | 79 | 79 | | Manarelli | 59 | 71 | 73 | 79 | 79 | | Mezgec | 67 | 73 | 76 | 79 | 77 | | Hochmann | 54 | 66 | 73 | 79 | 80 | | Vanoverschelde | 62 | 74 | 77 | 80 | 75 | | Havik | 64 | 74 | 75 | 79 | 76 | | Colbrelli | 61 | 74 | 76 | 79 | 75 |
On a good day, any of the sprinters mentioned as 'outsiders' here can take the win on this race. Their presence in this section rather than among the favourites is a testament to the depth of the sprint field starting this race.

More CT teams here than I expected. Will be interesting to follow and hopefully see them score as low as possible
With so many sprinters some teams may not want to catch a break to see another team taking adventage of it. Therefore I think a breakaway will win this. |

Once again a very impressive startlist. Hoping for a tough race for Van Asbroeck to succeed.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

One of our weaker sprint line-ups, with only Nelson supported by Thomas and Matthews. I mean, it's still a solid core but not the usual level we turn out for flat classics. Wolverine leads the youngsters alongside Dredd, Lily, Kim and Huynh (yep, pairing Wolverine and Dredd... it's a nerds wet dream!).
Top5 definitely out target for this race. Outside the Top10 will be a disaster, lower than that i can't comprehend. Should be a fun one though!

Manarelli, so not expecting much. But I thought the same of Drapac in Thailand so maybe he feels obligated to step up his game.

PS: why do you put the recovery stat in your preview for a one day race? Flat or resistance would be better in my opinion.

Hopefully Holloway's slightly higher HI stat can provide him with an advantage over riders like Lo Cicero and Nelson. Otherwise it's just gonna be another day of bad positioning and a low top 10

Looks like so far I've been smart to avoid these types of sprinter classics and instead get stage wins in bigger stage races. The competition here is always much worse.

Wow, what a startlist! Not entirely unexpected, but not great to see, nonetheless. Hopefully we can luck into a couple decent top 10-15 finishes with Bennett, Hochmann, or Havik.

I don't think the startlist is too bad, it'll just come down to which team decides to form trains and positioning in the end. On paper we're one of the strongest teams by far, so hoping for a podium at the very least. However, I've got a feeling this is the perfect race for Lo Cicero to turn it around in.

Always thought it was required
Didn't put the flat stat in here because of the hills...

Not confident Itami will even get to the end in the front group, but if he does I like his chances for a Top 10 which is really the goal here.

Looking at the start list in these C1 classics, and then races like South Africa, it surely feels like a bad tactical decision for our team.
Rowe need to step it up here, really hope he can get a top 10. One of the better sprinters on the hills, so hopefuløy he'lø benefit a bit from that.

I really need Lo Cicero to perform here, but seeing how the season have gone so far I expect that my team along with the teams of 1 or 2 other favourites will work hard al day only to be to tired to make a proper train thus leaving the biggest favourites on paper struggling to make top 10.

Thorsen for the win! while I don't share the top favourite optimism, I definitely share the enthusiasm for this to be his big day!
This is a rare race for us, one of the few sprinters classics where we send 5 good riders (Reckweg, Mørkøv, Franczak, Sobota, Vantomme) and only 3 talents. Normally our team only has 4 or even 3 good riders, although now we run the risk of Mørkøv randomly deciding to try to steal the show (and failing miserably)
This race suits Vantomme quite well with the distance and given he won Interlagos last year, you'd expect him to be alright with the hills. Really though I just hope that if Vantomme is going to have a bad day, can we get a proper top ten with guys like Lo Cicero, Guerao and Goss at the front unlike Thailand?
Thanks for the nice preview Abhishek!

Goss!
Great result for Ji as well. Eden, you're welcome
Got a bit worried when the first big names got dropped and no mention of Goss in the first few pictures of this rather chaotic sprint. But he came back in style. What a beauty of a win. Glad he's adding another PCT victory to his palmares.
A great report as well. Sad day for guys like Vantomme though.

What the actual f..
Glad to see we didn't get dropped, but Van Asbroeck was caught napping during the sprint to finish a disappointing 17th. Vanbilsen saves the day with a 9th. No clue what Gaviria was doing either.
Thanks for the report!
