Aru hanging out to a top 20 is good. As expected, Van der Velde's KoM campaign was due to fail, but I'll take 2nd as well.

Finally a good stage from Morton. 6th on the stage is, where I expected him prior to his crash festival. Well. 16th in GC is the usual result for Morton in our stage races in the past years, so no news really. At least he managed to not being seriously injured despite falling down three times.
Still one chance to crash though

Wow, that stage had me really worried right until the last screens with no sign or mention of Herklotz before the finish line...
Luckily, he was right where he needed to be in the end, overtaking Guldhammer and fending off Alarcon by a single second. He should never finish behind a 79mo rider in a GC though, but I'm happy for jph and Yates definitely deserves this.
Bongiorno and Nerz did very well too, just missing out on second team place (Kruijswijsjksjk with a monster performance) but gaining one respectively five GC places.
Bevin likely adding one point to our tally from the KoM rankings, too bad he crashed out of contention for the Cat.1. Maybe he can try his luck again tomorrow and make up for that. I'm really happy to see one of our climbers go for breaks though, it's usually a rare sighting.
So I'm just hoping for a crash- and echelon-free stage tomorrow to seal those GC positions, but on a good day that is ridden hard, maybe Herklotz can ride slipstreams and be visible in the sprint.
Also it's long overdue to congratulate Ticos Air for their race, what a depth!
If you were able to score points here, 13th 17th 21st 23th actually give more points than 4th in a PT stage race!

Did Barguil know that it was a mountain and he had a top 10 shot which he has now threw away.

Would have liked Barguil to get top 10 after being so close but I hope this depth can prove us well in PCT this season.

And now Madrazo is even failing in pure mountain stages Missing out on the podium is very bad, especially considering his luck in avoiding crashes and punctures.
Second in Team GC is a small consolation though. Kruijswijk and Bibby did a nice job.

First time my rider tried to escape and.... crash in the BOTD
Tenorio at least tried, but at the end was able just to defend his 10th place. Not good enough for 84 MO guy. At least he could keep his ass on the saddle and avoid any crashes so far.

8th is okay seeing the original startlist here. Still looked like a lot more was possible especially when Dombo with a similiar skillset podiums here.
Whats really frustrating is seeing the rest of the team do nothing. Slagter and Carapaz especially should really be capable of alot more here..
Congratz to the dominant winner and to the other lucky managers who really punched way above their weight here.

Dombrowski is a (much) better rider, though. Alarcon is just a climber, whereas Dombrowski is much more of a GC rider (like Schleck).
70FL vs. 69FL
75HI vs. 73HI
71TT vs. 66TT
80END vs. 71END
78RES vs. 74RES
78REC vs. 73REC
72DH vs. 66DH
Only place where Alarcon matches Dombrowski is his MO - and then he's slightly better ACC. In a race with 2 hilly stages and 2 mountain stages his FL, HI, END, RES and possibly even REC will be of some effect IMO.

6th? 6th? Am I imagining things?
Yates has been outstanding throughout this race, and provided any disasters are avoided on the final stage then this may be the result that we look back on as being huge for our survival chances. Massive overachievement, if he keeps this up throughout the season we'll be in a great place. |

Well, Tirreno turned out to be a wasted of race days for Kritskiy. Hope he will have more luck the rest of the season.

Oh well, Polivoda was an outsider at best...
Scarponi up into 28th is good.
But, most important, we took our 2nd ever GC win, and I believe our very first KoM... Amazing amount of points, will surely give is a bit more of a chance to stay up.

Chaotic final stage with no important gaps in the end.
Won`t lie. Seeing the startlist I had hopes for more than one 4th with Groenewegen. But he had no real support, hence must be happy with it. At least the final stage went to the sprinters and Enger is a deserving winner, just like Guarnieri earlier on and former loanie Vesely also did became a nice sprinter.
Dekker`s 14th is really nice. About what I expected in this field. Doing this with 2 crashes early on and a time loss afterwards is impressive. Shows that without crashes, he could have been around the late top10 riders Guldhammer, Herklotz etc. Maybe even up to overperformer Yates and gives me confidence on later races.
Boom did well and exactly what I wanted. Breakaway and KoM hunt. Not successful unfortunately but he tried. Just like Koep. Between Top50-100 is his area and as he will be the main mountain support in many, many races/stages there is no breakaway goal for him anyway.
Congrats fjhoekie for this expected but hardly fought and deserved win.
Phinney hugely impressive in this startlist to finish 2nd. Big gamble to send him here without a long ITT but worked out hugely in the end.
Then the good old Santander duo seem to no longer get the extra stuff and both back to human levels in the post-Santander era.
Thanks for the reports. Was a nice read and well covered. |

LN Hansen is a beast
This race has been a bit disappointment. Seeing nothing from Siskevicius om the hilly stages was bad and makes methink that I might have screwed up his planning for the season as I did 1-2 more gambles like this.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

A good race for us. Nice to see Bayly attempting to get something from here aswell, and a very surprising 42nd GC from him. Just 2 minutes away from getting into the top 40 also. Pretty strong.
Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier were among the better riders at all times, and was lucky to not hit the deck, so 5th was achieved along with the U25 competition (which equals 3rd GC). Taking the points achieved during the race he is going to score almost as much as getting 2nd in the GC (deducting all stage, KOM and PTS points).
Quite a lot of riders dropped there in the final, luckily Vasyliv and Novak was where they needed to be to get a few more points from 21st and 36th. Really nice depth results from 77MO riders.
Getting an average of 200 points from all races in the tripple-header is usually an indication of a good one (and will give you a top 5 rankings wise), so scoring 250+ here gives us a little bit of leeway in the Paris-Nice and Grand Duché double.
Thanks for swift quality reporting! I really hope we can keep it up, so the 2018 season will start relatively early in the 2018 calender year.

Decent to finish this off, obviously the one time we're in a break in echelon circumstances, the break gets caught.. To be fair, Sütterlin would've only gone backwards in a sprint anyway.
Too bad Herklotz didn't make the split and get some extra points, but absolutely nothing to complain from our side about his race. Important points with the other two races being failures so far.
Congrats Nemiroff, and thanks for great and steady reporting!

Another close fight between Guarnieri and Holst Enger. I truly enjoyed that. Guarnieri probably should have won considering the effort from the team, but nice to see a Norwegian win. Congrats ember!
Good race overall, congrats on a big win for you fjhoekie
