I know. Kelderman even said so last week that, while he like the short steep climbs and long shallow climbs, he doesn't like steep climbs that last longer than 2/3km..
Nibali doesn't like em either

I'm not even sure Miguel Angel Lopez likes them, as he seems to have a bit of a bulky build for a colombian climber.
Leaves Chaves, who is already 6 minutes behind and not in topshape.

And Zakarin didn't do well on blockhaus (9/10% for long time) either. So I'm not sure the fight wil lcome from him either.
It looks kinde hopeless

Zakarin could do well, he wasn't great on Blockhaus but he is form and has been good on the steep stuff in this race so it wouldn't surprise me to see him in the thick of it. Lopez and done well on long steep climbs in Suisse and in Austria but that was obviously against weaker opposition. In saying all that it does look like Froome is just playing with them.

I'm pretty sure Zakarin either had a mechanical or crashed right before Blockhaus and that played a role in his performance. Or am I confusing him with another rider?

I think it was only Landa, Thomas and Yates who crashed ahead of Blockhaus?

No idea what you're referring to, but I'll take the 4 world championship titles and 5 TdF stages please.

Obviously a shame, but this is the best timing at least. He got to give it all in the TT and has enough time to heal up for Bergen, where he's planned to ride the TTT and U23 RR.
Personally, I hoped he'd be nominated for the U23 TT too which is one day after the TTT, even on such a double-effort he'd be the top favorite imo.
The RR really suits him as well though, the profile has a Montjuic vibe to it where he finished 18th.

I was referring the fact, that Tony has well known knee problems since around 2011.

What I definitely miss in this Vuelta is Tom Dumoulin. I would love to see how he would try to deal with Froome and SKY.

Fair enough, I realized myself after posting. Though 16 stages of a brutal Vuelta for a 20yo rider whose longest effort so far was an 8-stages Tour de l'Avenir are bound to bring issues with them, that shouldn't be an indicator.

Indeed. Why is he out anyway?

This stage is crazy. Rain, wind, mountains, dangerous descents and crazy steep climbs

Kämna is a very powerful rider for his weight he can sprint relatively well and is quite capable of sustaining long efforts.

He is very comparable to Kelderman in my opinion, he came arround with the same age with very similar abilities, and their physical stature is very simillar (and ideal for a climber/time-trialist).

Also noteworthy that beeing able to ride like this in the third week of an incredibly hard Vuelta only aged 20 appears to be another weapon on the deck.

Also you have to take the change of wind into account, since Kämna rode in strong annoying sidewind and best GC guys had tailwind. So who knows maybe he could challenge even top5 with different windy conditions.

Was that actually the case? I checked the weather in the morning and it predicted a steady tailwind that if anything would only get slightly stronger for the later riders.

Indepentely of today's result. I think the stage where Froome has the most chances of beeing put into danger is actually tomorrow. It has Contador written all over it and the constant up/down (with possible rain) and dangerous alliances (that may include Nibali).

Direct confrontation nobody will take serious time on Froome. If Nibali wants the win it's tomorrow that he's gotta try something. Given that if it doesn't work, the final 2km climb won't bring tremedous losses for him also may encourage others
