Adam Hansen will not ride the Vuelta, ending his GT streak at 18. Apparently there's some conflicting reports about an injury or Lotto simply not selecting him.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Quite annoying how Lotto Soudal didnt pick Adam Hansen, its not like he is doing anything, he is an icon. Well, he had a goal that is fairly used in 1920s tour, to finish. Hansen is getting older if Lotto doesnt think it is right, they have a point but they should select him for any GTs by now otherwise it doesnt make sense

Well, I asked myself, what did he do the last few GT's? I think he hasn't shown himself enough to get selected again. Not even close to a breakaway win anywhere. They should get results, not help a rider get his record without getting anything in return.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I would have picked him. You have to remember that even if he's not getting in breaks, he's still doing crucial domestique work in the pack as part of the lead out train for Greipel.

He do got the record right? So what's the point then, if he is not going to help the team win in the end. I get the argument of extending the record and so on, but i do belive the "second" place is 12? And that was back in the 1950's.

Contador just announced that he will retire after Vuelta a Espana. It may have been expected bur obviously, very sad now. Now I hope for some great final performance and maybe a podium.

Yes it was expected since he did not sign next contract during tdf rest day. I think its because he saw during this Tour that its end for him. However i think that he have not been starting this season knowing that it will be his last. I think he realised it only during Tour. Its sad. He could be there for at least 1 more year. Why he does not want to continue? Giro - Vuelta could be good for him

This is not the news I want to wake up with. I hoped he'd ride Il Giro next year. Thanks a lot for all you have given us Alberto! I hope he wins the Vuelta btw. (Before Avin comes-I think he will probably not even win a stage, nevermind the whole GC)

I don't think he is finished yet, my gut feeling says he will still ride the Giro in 2018 somehow. |

A win to the end would be spectacular. He'd be record holder with Heras then.  However I don't really believe in it but of course, Contador has proven me wrong many times, both in the positive and negative.
I think that the decision was made during Tour too. He seemed quite beaten back then despite his numerous attacks and plans. Despite being out of GC contention, he was still the rider imo who did the most for GC racing. That just shows how he and his style of racing will be missed.
Giro-Vuelta 2018 would have been perfect for him. Reasons could be numerous and probably are: Salary, racing schedule, role in team, marketing, lack of results, training etc.

Too bad, but needed. He just didn't have it in him anymore, even the Giro or Vuelta would be hard looking at this year's startlist. He had a great career, but it's time for the new kids on the block now.

Exactly I think that his preparation somehow went wrong. He was riding pretty solid in the spring. And after that short break he came back but not very good Maybe problem is that he does not have a Tim Kerrison by his side  But his decision is certainly final - even if he won Vuelta I doubt that he would change his mind. Its strange since everyone was expecting from him one more year.

i am also sad that one superstar ending career. What amazing rider..even on he's last year. Cyclist ..not some srm junky.
I hope that he will end with style at this Vuelta..not like Purito did. |
