Lots of people have had chances to lead Sky at grand tours and all have failed.
Chris Froome is the only Sky rider to finish on the podium of a grand tour since Uran at the Giro in 2013. And the only time Froome has failed to podium in that time is when he's crashed out.
There is a reason why no-one else really gets a chance at Sky. Even Landa has ridden in 10 grand tours in his career. He's finished 3rd once, 4th once and failed to get into the top 15 on any other occasion. He can't say he hasn't had chances to ride for GC at Sky or throughout his career.
Not so many people lead sky, just because the occasion is once a year...btw I agree to everything you say, and for now the best placement of an ex-Sky domestique is 5th in a GT...
I'm sure that Landa can get podium with Movistar somewhere, but if tha main problem is, what he could do in this tour, I don't think better than he got by beeing Froome domestique
Wait, what about Uran? He just finished 2nd in Le Tour and had 2 2nd place finishes in the Giro, first with Sky then the following year with Quickstep.
Uran wasn't a domestique in Sky
Yes he was. Him and Henao had to wait for Wiggins in the rain in il Giro.
Incredible scenes that was.
Uran also lost loads of time there but gained it back on the next MTF when the others let him go.
Uran left Sky after two years where he lead the team in a GT

He was not the leader that Giro. He was a domestique for wiggins, had to wait for Wiggo when he stopped bothering in the rain and only became team leader after Wiggins pulled out.
The year before he was team leader at the Giro eys

He was free to win a stage before wiggins left the giro, not really domestique

They make us tough in Birmingham
Never too sure why Martin chose to ride for Ireland. He was born in Birmingham, England to an English father who represented Britain at the Olympics.
There is some form of link to the Roche's so I guess that may be the answer.

Yes, Uran was a domestique in that Giro. Wiggo just stunk so hard that Urán finally was allowed to do his thing. |

He was also a domestique in the vuelta's during that time even if he got team the giro and didn't have to do at the tour he was still working for the British leaders whilst at sky when he wasn't getting his chance to lead the giro and it is not really any different to land a getting to lead the giro but be a dom in his other grand tour.

Didn't knew that bit - so this means that Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche are 1st cousins. Oddly enough they've never been in the same team at the same time, but this could happen in the PCM universe isn't it?

Yes, they are first cousins, and yes, they could be teammates in PCM. Check out my Team Guinness Cycling YouTube series for confirmation of that.

Nah mate, Giro 2010 and 2015 still better, the Vuelta was awesome that year, but it was literally 12 ___/ stages and the spectacular Fuente De stage. It was the best GT in history for catching 20-30 minutes each day after school or watching hihgligts on youtube tho |

I am of course exaggerting. Both Giros, especially 2015 (despite its weak result in the Grand Tour Elimination Game) were awesome. And discussion about best ever and what not is fairly pointless, all of them were amazing after all and I'd gladly see the Tour step up to this level of awesomeness just once in a decade.
Vuelta 2012 had for me this special feel of the spanish armada wrecking Froome in the end of first week, battling it out in the second one between themselves, and Contador's coup d'etat on Fuente De and bringing it somewhat home against a Purito in form of his life. Sure it was ___/ stages all around, but when you have those three demigods on a bike and crazy spanish fans on the sidelines, what more than you need than 30 minutes bliss.

Yeah, it was awesome to see the 3 best spanish riders in their prime (or very close it) and fresh battling it out each day. Each 3 of them could have made a good argument of thsmselves as the winner, altho I still feed very bad for the Purito in the form of his life somehow losing that Vuelta. He was just that fucking good. And I wont forget Valverde's victory on La Gallina anyime soon, check it out those that haven't watched that, its awesome. Or Puritos display on Mirador Ezaro. |
