Yes but i doubt that contador himself is keen to lose more time on purpose.

Wouldn't say on purpose, but he's not going to dig extra deep to make up for it either.

Really, Matthews sprint reminded me much of Nizzolo's at the final Giro stage 2016. The road went left but Matthews right.

Its just not typical for rider like him to ride like that. Its tough to watch. Hope he will try to save it at vuelta

Quickstep really left Martin out to dry there by sending every back to stick with a sprinter in crosswinds when you have a guy top 5 in GC. That's just stupid. Now, Martin has never been good with positioning, and that's on him, but still, that's a reprehensible call by the DS.

Yeah, its awfully easy to play armchair QB after the fact. I think I would have done the same - but very bad outcome nonetheless. It also needs to be said QS are pretty slim atm, Gilbert is out and a few of the guys are sick. |

Laporte 5th, he's a very strong rider in the crosswinds, protecting himself as the only Cofidis rider in the group while the four riders ahead of him had a lot of support, the strongest rider of the day.

Not sure how sending your team backwards in echelons is protecting the green jersey since at that point he has no chance to score points today anyway. It's not like he would be eliminated with a grupetto that big anyway. So that's hardly an excuse. Green did not require those teammates today, top 5 in GC did.

I would have left 1 more guy with Dan Martin and that would be Stybar. Lets not forget there are 7 guys left as Trentin and Phil are no more.
Aru somehow managed to not miss it despite being a 1 man army too |

I was told Vermote and Stybar was sick, so no easy task |
