Today's race in Baku was one of the most enjoyable races in the past few, boring seasons (at least for neutral viewer). There were a lot of action on the track, completely different than last years. Stroll got his maiden podium, and finally Alonso scored first points for McLaren in current season. Victory for Ricciardo, who had problems at beginning of the race. I hope for another good race in Austria. |

brake failure/PU failure against brake failure/two electric failures. so much more luck on ricciardo's side
hopefully the success fans will drop off F1 soonish so they don't have to cater to them anymore which means I don't sign every other lap when the commentators mention him.
cause shit like "Riccairdo stole max win here" is just beyond retardation

Yeah.. 10 second stop/go penalty for such a move is a light punishment.. Could understand the anger with Vettel but it was a really stupid move from the German..
Dit anyone notice that if Perez and Ocon hadn't taken eachother out i would've been a 1-2 for Force India?

He should be dq'd for a couple of races. If he did that on the street he would be looking at a driving ban at least. You can't use your car as a weapon in the highest profile racing discipline in the world.
It will be a joke if a 10 second penalty is his only punishment.

Hamilton is a joke, constantly moaning to influence stewards decisions his way, its not the first time he drives dangerously behind the SC he has done it all his career. Good on Vettel for doing what he did. Hamilton deserved the arrogant idiot!

What? A weapon? We're not talking about a kamikaze right here, if anything Hamilton shouldn't have used his brakes that recklessly in the middle of a turn, that was pretty dumb.

Hamilton should have gotten a penalty, not for what he did today, as according to telemetry, he didn't brake when Vettel touched him, he just didn't acelerate, because of his recurrency to do this kind of things while following the SC. There was one time, in Japan 07, when he caused a crash between Webber and Vettel doing something similar.
And Vettel should be grateful that Hamilton's car wasn't damaged when he run into him. If the car had been damaged, he might be facing a one race ban for what he did. And he dare to ask why he was penalized, and also said that this is a sport for grown-up. He seemed like a 12-year-old with that manouvre.
Once again, Ricciardo grabbing the "remains" after a chaotic race, while Verstappen seems to be cursed this season with car failures. Great comeback from Bottas, even it was favoured because of the multiple SC, which allowed him to unlap himself after almost ruining his and Kimi's race in the start.
Stroll, the man of the day. Wow! Altough it wasn't an extraordinary race, he was consistent, solid and managed to stay out of troubles all day. A shame to lose the second place in the final hundred, but i guess he won't care.
Big mistake of Ocon not giving space to Perez, which destroyed the real chances of a Force India maiden win, even a 1-2, but at the end he picked some points.
Alonso finally in the points! Hopefully he won't resign with McLaren, unless they get a Mercedes engine.
This was a eventful race, clearly the best of the season, but stewards were clearly afraid of "getting involved" in the Championship battle

@Ste117 and @matt:
Did you watch the race and listen to the Radio conversations?
HAM wasn't moaning, that things were against him, but that they can't properly warm-up the tires, which has lead to several crashes. He was right all along.
And then the VET thing. He didn't brake. Also he's allowed to drive at that low speed, since the track is that awkward, that you could easily catch the SC on the long straight. He just left the space. VET just saw it WAAY to late and fucked up. That can happen, but driving besides someone and ramming him on purpose, should be a definitive DSQ from the race. It's like punching someone in the face in a football/soccer match. It's unsportsmanlike and it deserves a red card(and maybe a 3 game ban)
And before people start. I can't stand HAM. But he was right all along. VET even talked around the questions in the interviews later. He always does that, when he knows that he fucked up. He just cannot admit it. He never could. That's sad. He started to grow on me again.

It seems some people are letting their personal feelings towards Hamilton cloud their judgement in what is a clear case of dangerous driving and what should clearly result in a race ban of some description.
I can't believe you are actually condoning Vettel's actions and applauding him for deliberately driving a vehicle into a fellow driver.
What did Hamilton do wrong in this instance? Replays have confirmed he didn't break. Vettel simply misjudged his speed and drove into him by accident and then deliberately rammed him. And yes, he was using his car as a weapon. Anything you use to hit another individual is a weapon.
Hamilton was well within his rights to go at whatever speed he wanted. I find it amusing how Hamilton is being labelled as arrogant however Vettel has at no point admitted he has done anything wrong in this whole instance. That is the very definition of arrogance.

And now Vettel takes out half of the field and yet still no punishment.
It appears the powers that be simply want anyone other than Hamilton/Mercedes to win this year.

The only one to blame for the crash is Vettel. He was the only one to leave his racing line to block Verstappen, without knowing that Raikkonen was also in parallel with Verstappen, which caused the crash.
About getting away with no penalty, I don't think that FIA/Liberty wants Vettel to win the WDC, it's more about keeping the Championship fight until the very last race

I wouldn't even blame Vettel, and it's not a secret i don't really like him.
Kimi got an awesome launch and went into the gap on the inside of Verstappen, totally fine. He was then trapped down on the inside, nothing was his fault.
Verstappen got jumped by Kimi so had nowhere to go on his inside. He also got a good launch himself to get on terms with Vettel, leaving him nowhere to move on the outside. He was stuck in a clasing gap he didn't make or chose. No fault there.
Vettel got an ok launch, not great, and cut left to squeeze Verstappen into turn 1. Classic racing move we've seen from numerous drivers overthe years. He didn't do anything wrong. But he could have been less aggressive, but then he wouldn't be Vettel or a multiple world champion.
Absolutely classic racing incident, aided by the triangular profile of these 2017 cars (wider at the back than front). This is why the contact came at the rear end of Kimi's car, because that was where the space ran out. Kimi had nowhere to go. Max had nowhere to go. Vettel didn't make contact with either to cause the crash and wasn't driving hard across, just squeezing the space. No-one's to blame singularly, things just happen.
It's Alonso i feel bad for. Great start, as per usual, around the outside. Would have been clear into third behind Hamilton, and that McLaren had good pace. Genuinely thing he could have hung up front for a podium finish, or at least McLarens best finish in 4 years. But he got tagged in a moment of bad luck and that sucked.

IMO the drivers would actually want Verstappen to be banned at least for one race. They did it with Grosjean and he isn't the walking crash disaster anymore.
