Time for the third edition of the Rider of the Year. The idea is not necessarily to pick the best rider of the year, but rather the one that stood out most. This can be due to having the best results, but it could also mean the most overperforming or most attacking rider, or fantastic domestique. In any case, I'll have you decide on what you prefer.
Any rider, on any team, any division is eligible. The manager of the team does not necessarily have to be active, it's the riders that count.
First up is the rider nomination. Some riders will be automatically nominated, but others are up to you to nominate.
The riders automatically nominated are the rankings leaders of each division, as well as the PT monument winners, world champions and GT winners (including America).
The other nominations are up to you. You can nominate two riders by sending a PM to me, please mention the team name as well. You are allowed to nominate riders on your own team.
Any rider who has received at least 3 nominations (or 2 if low participation, will be decided after the deadline) will be officially nominated. Nominations are open already. The deadline will be next sunday (30 April) at 18:00 CET
As soon as all nominees are announced, voting will be opened. You are able to vote for 5 riders, in your preferred order. The first will be awarded 8 points, the second 5, the third 3, the fourth 2 and the fifth 1. To vote, fill in the voting sheet below and send it in table form as a PM to me. Voting for your own riders is not allowed.
| Rank | Rider | Team | Points | | 1 | Rider 1 | Team | 8 | | 2 | Rider 2 | Team | 5 | | 3 | Rider 3 | Team | 3 | | 4 | Rider 4 | Team | 2 | | 5 | Rider 5 | Team | 1 |
The deadline will be announced later on.
As soon as the voting closes, I will announce the winner. This rider can proudly be called the ManGame Rider of the Year 2016.
Who are allowed to participate?
Both nominations and voting is allowed for everyone, including those who don't have a team (anymore).
What's the point of all this?
It's just something fun for the offseason. Plus it hopefully stimulates interaction between the division, which is what we have hoped for throughout the season.
Yes, it is. In fact, I even recommend it if you want to nominate a fantastic domestique/attacker.

1. Is there need of a poll?
2. Where is Angelo Madrazo?

1. It's nominations at the moment
2. He's not had a great season from what I remember he didn't win a race (might be wrong)
Struggling to think of many more nominations for the PT there was a lot of the favourites winning so Schleck, Bewley and Phinney won most of their races
So probably just Trofimov left to nominate |

I have decided to nominate two of my own riders. None of my riders are nominated at this point, and winning the rankings, through several great rider performances I thought we should atleast take a look at some of them.
Panagiotis Vlatos for having a spectacular season with some very strong results:
Stagewin in Tour of Qatar
2nd place in stage in Tour of Northern Europe
Overall 3rd in World Championships ITT
Overall 7th in Chrono des Herbiers
Overall 9th in Tour of Qatar
Also a top 100 position in the PT rankings, being the 3rd best timetriallist after Jerome Coppel and Mikhail Ignatiev.
Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier for his massive efforts in the Grand Tours. Moving from 12th and 13th in the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, he ended up taking 4th in the Vuelta a España, also winning the Young Riders competition ahead of riders like Alexei Lutsenko, Merhawi Kudus, Daan Olivier and Lachlan Morton. But also for keeping Simon Spilak in contention in the Tour de France after dominating the mountains - and even more the descends - for him, even taking 7th in the GC himself beating the likes of Romain Sicard, Tim Wellens, Sergio Henao and Martijn Keizer.
In the overall Ranking he was the 2nd best U25 rider throught the season, despite being just 23 years old.
I also opted for Jerome Coppel who scored twice the amount of points as he did last season, winning two Tour de France stages having ridden 5 days in yellow, he also won Tour of Tasmania aswell as a few other top results. But I guess / hope others might nominate him.
From outside my team I would like to give a heads up for Joe Dombrowski, Nikias Arndt and Davide Villella whom I think had great seasons, despite being very different-levelled riders.

Thanks for doing this again Selwink, great all-division initiative
Yes, it is. In fact, I even recommend it if you want to nominate a fantastic domestique/attacker.
Only one response to that, campaigning to nominate Jamalidin Novardianto!

11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Long shot with this one, but I think Gaeten Bille performed really well this season (yes doesn't look it points-wise) and could get a cheeky nomination. Loyal domestique to Dowsett and spent time in Yellow during the Tour of Britain when punch well above his weight.

Have nominated 2 riders who have excelled thanks to some amazing planning, being Thomas Dekker, who has been life saving for Compal and Damiano Cunego, the ManGame legend who singlehandedly has brought my team to a higher level, very likely even promotion.

the second nomination was a close tie, but I decided to go for Jerome Baugnies over Aleksandar Flügel and Tosh van der Sande to honor their great effort in their teams stellar performances

I think Hugentobler could be in with a shout for a nomination this year as he took the fight to the elite punchers in the CT division despite being only 75 Hill.
He managed to win Benelux and had 3 more impressive top 10's gained through attack and beating guys that should have been stronger and claimed a couple of youth jerseys and his over performances were the difference to help us gain 2 Teams classifications aswell.

Don't you all forget about the most consistent puncheur of the CT Barbin! He was meant to be the best and he definitely delivered taking his team to the division victory.

If you want to talk CT it's gotta be Kiril Yatsevich, he was awesome this year.

Yeah, just nominated Yatsevich and Lo Cicero.
When I edited all result from this season in too the race profile I felt that Kiril Yatsevich won very much, Copied his teams name often I learned to write his name
And Lo Cicero was the best sprinter in PCT, unfortunately |

Let's not forget about Krasnoperov, winner of the toughest mountain race in the CT.
