World Championships 2016 Route Vote - Part 2

The 2016 World Championships will be for the classic riders as cobbles have won the poll.
Two options were decided by the MGUCI:  Krakow and  Hayborough.
Krakow
Hayborough
The TTT and ITT will likely use some of those parts but are regular WC ITTs. |

I really dig Krakow, not as hilly as Hayborough but not totally flat either, and the section where the race will be won is steep and totally cobbled too, without being too long.

Voted the latter because it's the only race that isn't 95% Bewley tailormade and thus opens for atleast 5 riders capable of winning. Several hilly riders have 68+ cobble which could make it interesting.
A simply cobble race like the first is 95% Bewley, 4% GVA and 1% The rest, which makes the race pointless imo.

Voted for Hayborough. Best route for Trentin, and also in Australia. A perfect fit there, really. Will probably be a Bewley vs Van Avermaet race anyway.

Krakow variant ends on a small hill with lvl 1 cobbles. I believe there will be a quite big chance GVA beats him. Or even Summerhill. Bewley's sprint ability will be gone on a course like that.

Bewley is solo infront before that becomes a problem 
The other route opens for some alternative results seeing medals go to riders like Boasson Hagen, Spilak, Ponzi, Trofimov, van Garderen, McCarthy, De Bie, Gesink, Juul-Jensen, Gilbert, van Stayen, Kwiatkowski, Tsatevich, Guldhammer, Kump, David, Sinkeldam and Boom also. And obviously the cobbled riders with 70+ HI also.
The Poland Route will see medals go to Bewley, van Avermaet and either Summerhill, Burghardt, vanspeybrouck or Baugnies. So not much of entertainment really imo. And seeing as the WC is just for fun, and not about points, I think routes should be picked based on a vast majority of potential winners/medalists, and not just the most crazy route, suited for 1 or 2 riders.

I'm fine with either of them winning, but come on. We have seen this duel, and we know how it goes. Why another? There are plenty of races throughout the season that proves exactly what happens when there are cobbles and short hills and plenty of KM's to ride. Why not spice it up a bit, to ensure that this podium isn't necessarily given beforehand? What's the point in writing a great preview and report if we know what will happen?

@SotD:
While your point of Bewley domination is not totally unrealistic, you must think about another point.
It`s a WC, no team event. Hence the team`s might be totally against the favour of Bewley. Expect Belgium to be stronger than New Zealand.
Also expect other Nations to be a lot stronger. This might change it a bit I guess and makes it less predictable.
In the end though Bewley is easily the best, so a cobbled WC always would favour him. |

Kuurne is hardly cobbled. So definately can't be compared to 40km of cobbles that is Poland.
But I'll accept that Poland is what the public wants. I just think it's boring to have THAT predictable a WC. We had the same last season, which was tailormade for Schleck. Both he, and Bewley are great World Champions, but atleast make it a competition...

I really believe it should be a great race if Krakow wins. Uphill sprint is a bad one for Bewley. All his wins in cobble classics this year were in a flat sprint. This would be different. Plus I believe the depth of his team is much better in Becherovka than he will have in Kiwi NT. Almost only Tom David.

Going for Hayborough, Krakow seems all too guaranteed for Bewley as others have posted. While I think he will win in either event, the Hayborough option at least opens up other possibilities.
Honestly Hayborough might open the door for a Spilak or Ponzi to win as puncheurs, not sure how much the short stretches of cobbles would hurt them on those climbs.

Well, we voted cobbles right? Let's make it a cobbled event then, and not another one for the puncheurs (with cobble speciality)
I think the Krakow route looks fantastic, and I'm looking forward to the race even though I'm not sure I will have a single rider here. Maybe Jack Bauer could help Bewley to victory if chosen? A Kiwi victory in the WC doesn't happen every year either. |
