Third edition of this classic. Which consists of 6km laps around Tampa totalling to 179km, hard cobbles (and an interesting name for the victor’s palmares) make this race. Last year’s champion Van Wyk doesn’t defend his title but the other winner De Haes returns this year.
Favourites | CB | FL | | CB | FL | Thomas | 79 | 75 | Kurth | 75 | 73 | Bush | 78 | 74 | Grashev | 75 | 68 | Drucker | 77 | 74 | Turgot | 75 | 71 | Hristov | 77 | 72 | Marcos | 74 | 74 | Boonen | 76 | 76 | Walsleben | 74 | 72 | Lindeman | 76 | 73 | Nuyens | 74 | 72 | Østergaard | 75 | 74 | Field | 74 | 70 | De Haes | 75 | 73 | Ingels | 74 | 73 |
Thomas is the first name to mention given it’s flat and cobbled. Bush, Drucker and his teammate Hristov are the next best cobblists. But really Boonen is the big name today, given he can sprint if it comes down to that and ride the flats strongly. Many names really can take it out if they are feeling good on the circuit today however!

Flat and cobbles? Gotta be for Thomas. G is the big man here and the top favorite, he better deliver the result to match. Or Hristov or Grashev could take over. And Wolverine i hope shows himself on home turf.

With a startlist that short I wouldn't be surprised about a back to back break win like last year, especially if a rider from Podium Ambition, Carlsberg, Chiquita or TVM is in it.

Van Wyk wasn't a break win, he won it with a powerful late attack fair and square
Good memories of this race, a really surprising win back then. Nice preview, looking forward to the race report trek

Oh yeah didn't exactly remember how it went, but yeah if there's not enough teams relaying behind such a scenario could repeat.

Race could go anyway given the startlist. Hoping on a good (depth) result from my cobblers.

It seems to have been ages since we last raced so maybe the rest has done us good but with only 13 teams taking part we may be lucky |

Bush still has less points in CT than achieved last year in PT as an unmaxed rider - really hoping that he sorts himself out for racing on his homesoil. He couldn;t really ask for a more suitable circuit for his characteristics. Usual support riders in Backaert and Naesen, and a stagiare debut for this season's recipient of the WCC Asia continent scholarship, Thanawut Sanikwathi from Thailand (his name alone was worth a spot on the roster!).
Thanks for reporting trekmbc.

Important race for us. We've always been a somewhat cobbles oriented team, and this year has been a bit of a disappointment on that front.
Still, we have a top 5 goal here. If Boonen shows what he has the last few times out rather than the first few, that should be possible. Our team is strong, and Boonen has the flat and sprint to back up his cobble. Hoping for the best.

There/s one certainty in an ever-changing world- that Giaux will do nothing.

Well that's at a least a successful goal, but a quite strange and disappointing finish. We had the numbers advantage in the selection but didn't push it, and just like Quickstep in 90% of real life cobbled races, it lost us the race.
Lee out of all of my guys was definitely not expected to finish 4th, with De Maar and Boonen having looked good in the final kms. I guess I'm forced to be appeased with another round of 4th, 7th and 8th, but I just wish my team would make a train or do something effective with those numbers for once, and maybe I'd be able to actually get a good result somewhere.
Nevertheless, I can't be too angry. Thomas was always going to destroy the race, and when Boonen wasn't active in those moves throughout the races, I lost any expectations. Congrats to TMM and Podium Ambition, and thanks to trek for the report.

Job done. Another win in the bag and Thomas continues to live up to expectation on the CT cobbles. As usual he does it the slightly unexpected way, using up energy when he could have used teammates and sprinting from the front. But G is the man!
Grashev also in the Top10 is good to see, plus Hristov and Jyme in the Top15 shows our squad depth on this terrain. Had hoped for a bit more from Wolverine, that's the only downside.
________
On another note, wtf kind of finish was that? For a race with 5* cobbles to come to a group sprint of 29 riders was unexpected and not good AI at all.

Second place for former winner De Haes, great result for the team given he crashed earlier. Also some good results from the secondary riders. Scoring about equal to Carlsberg to defend fourth place.
Congrats TMM and thanks trek for the report!

Fuck it, you can't say Drucker didn't try, but was it the most clever of racing tactics? Doubtable. 6th is just too bad, especially how unexplainably good Carlsberg and Chiquita scored here. Scorchio, what did we do wrong here again?

235,000 Euros for an constant anti-climax. If I wanted one of those I'd have just withheld it from the ECB for as long as possible.

Congrats to TMM delivering when it mattered.
Great team work to get Kurth back in contention but he didn't deliver so a bit disappointing to finish outside the top 15 with 4 Podium Ambition guys in front!
