Giro d'Italia Discussion

Congratulations, Avin! Pluchkin has this one in his bag, which makes the final year even more amazing. What a champion!

Good stage from Stake Laengen, nice to see him make the top 10. Guldhammer with a not so great stage, but it was always going to be 8th place overall after he lost it to Wellens, so it doesn't really mean much, as the gap down to Olivier must be safe.

Thank you for the report, sgdanny Smile

Wow Jose and crapzado virtually tied for second. Not sure about this guru saving from relegation but it certainly should be giving some if the other bottom feeders food for thought.

Pluchkin has been pretty boring bastard wheel sucker this giro, let's face it he looks like he can't be arsed to dominate like he should. Crapzado races like his daily form is at least -3 80% of the time, meanwhile Jose flies pretty much every time there is a mountain ignoring his supposed recovery stat that never seems to manifest itself too badly.

Tomorrow team let the break F off down the road.

As expected, Henao drops to fifth. Hopefully no time gaps between the GC favorites tomorrow.

And we need someone in the breakaway to make sure the teams classification is ours Smile

Congrats Avin on the GC and Pluichkin finally getting a stage, would've been disappointing for the race winner not to take one. Smile

Final stage looks like it could have potential to be exciting given Madrazo only needs 2 seconds to move up a place, but most likely it's just not quite tough enough with that flat finish- maybe more of a chance if the finishing roads we're cobbled like they are in real life (assuming this is one lap from the stage the EP used as a WC Pfft) - hope at least the break doesn't take it, or is small enough because it would be a shame not to see Van Staeyan win the points at the end of this. Great Giro Danny! Shame for Alarcon, Pluchkin too good but still a wheelsucker, would have been nice for the Venezuelan to win it.

How can 13th from a 71TT rider not be a great result? He have riders with 73, 75, 76 and 78 right behind him.

This is a very strange looking top 15, when riders like Brambilla and Kruijswijk can be there, we are a bit sad that one of our "breakaway" type of riders (Novak and Campero) couldn't have done something like that, but in the end they are about where they were supposed to be, if nothing crazy happens tomorrow. Novak a bit under where I would have liked to see him with his decent MO/TT combination.

Btw. i think for the future, the TT specialist would deserve more chances in the GT for a stage success. Anything against the clock after stage 10 is not for them at all.

Zmorka seemed to put up a fantastic ride, given his advantage on the other TTists, but still zero chance to break top20 in the stage that is all about recovery (ofc the hill also didnt help). Or maybe they need increased recovery? In real life, it is not a problem for many TT specialists to top10-20 a very long TT in stage 20, because they save some energy during three weeks and stages prior to TT.

Like the Vuelta? (Stage 3). Or The Tour? (Stage 1).

You just picked the wrong Grand Tour to send Zmorka to - I guess you sent him there for the TTT to support Pluchkin more than for his chances of individual succes,

That really depends on the difficulty of the TT though. Often you see a few TT riders save themselves for a TT, and then mix in with the GC riders, but I don't think it is possible for TT riders to be that smart in this game. And clearly the recovery stat should count aswell, not that I know whether it does or not.

Ignatiev would probably have done well on this TT seeing that he has a great recovery stat and a good hill stat. +15 in terms of Zmorka.

The problem is that most good TT'ers are actually not that good in Grand Tours because they have limited stats on most terrains. Of the top TT'ers I think both Coppel, Ignatiev, Fiedler, Cornu and riders like Reus, Tennant and Goncalves would do well in a TT past stage 10, even if it is slightly bumpy. The rest - Not so much.

Two chances for a stage win in three GTs, not sure that is enough. Wink

That 6kms long prologue can go to anyone above 78 prologue with superb daily form anyway...that is not just for TT specialists, as it uses prologue stat.

Zmorka was just an example, he had another purpose like you have mentioned, i knew he has no chance in such a late TT with hill. I am even surprised he survived until stage 20, i am rather discussing it for the future and whoever will manage Zmorka and similar specialists. You know, i care about you guys. Grin

Btw. Zmorka is also going for Tour de France...together with Ignatiev. Coppel will beat both i guess. Pfft

Btw i doubt that even Ignatiev or Coppel could crack top10 in the recently finished TT...

Bringing your A-Game for that TTT I see Pfft - Let's hope my A-Game can beat yours then Pfft

You really should stay in the game for another year, just to sell my Zmorka Grin

Not A-Game, rather B+ because of one 65 and one 59 guy, hopefully they wont slow 82-80-79-77-76-70 much Smile
It will be a lottery anyway...

You will have to fight for Zmorka, sorry...and Pluchkin, Grosu, Ignatiev (declined), Karnulin and others. Pfft

To stay on topic at least a bit, looking forward to the conclusion today. I am quite nervous, if we will really make the history happen. Another question is the point jersey and 2nd place, but i guess that later fight is settled.

Funny that Pluchkin seems to wheelsuck but still has the point jersey. Cool

Van Stayen needs to win to take the points competition, I think. I think you have got it - Both the win and the points competition. You need that though, as Pluchkin haven't scored that much during the race. Before stage 20 you were actually not that superior. Both Evonik and Red Bull have scored better.

Well, not really a big score issue to win points competition or come second there, just 30 points difference. I got 18 for every day in pink (almost 300 hundred for whole race for Pluchkin now), so just two days in pink are bigger gain than difference between first and second in points competition.

Also 500 points for the win erase all the problems, but we have not won yet!

And i dont care much about points this year anyway, just enjoying the roleplay side of things and prestige of possible winning the competitions. Smile

I think Pluchkin just won 3 GTs in a row? Congrats Avin on the Giro win!

Thanks for all reporting throughout, have not commented here so far, but really enjoyed this race, especially Alarcon was quite cool to see this time. Pluchkin was at the very least the smartest in this race, so a deserved win for him.

First thanks for the great coverage of this Giro, sgdanny! Was a nice read and always good to have the consistent evening reports!

Result wise my team obviously did pretty well. 2 stage wins, 9th in GC, 2nd in KoM and U25.
Daan Olivier showed what I was hoping for back when I signed him as level 1 talent! Same for Villella, who also had another 1-2 good stage results.

Quite funny actually that mainly the youngest of mine survived the Giro. Olivier, Villella, Groenewegen, Koep.

De Bie obviously is wasted 21 race days but couldn`t care less right now.

Congrats to Avin for the 3rd GT win in his career. niconico surely must be shocked after years of trying with Pluchkin.

Also congrats to all those that had a good Giro. Probably Smowz and Count surely must be named as Alarcon did excellent and made it the most exciting of all GC riders while Bpost had great stage sucess and with Wellens and Kruijswijk 2 good GCs.
Mre with two break wins also on the better end.
