I´m glad my team dont focus on cobbles Pfft

Nice signing with Waeytens, actually thought about bidding on him myself.

Man I just knew you'd go to make life miserable on the cobblez for me. Pfft

Hehe, our rivalry continues thanks to that last minute promotion Wink

But overall, you have the better team though, even if I give Vanbilsen the slightest of edges over Baugnies.

Sprinter madness

Our next round of signings just came in, and they're good ones. First of all, we are glad to announce our 3rd rider from the ashes of Quickstep, Tom Van Asbroeck. Tom is a 26 year old sprinter from Belgium, with some cobble ability as well. He'll be our lead sprinter for the next season, freeing up Matteo Pelucchi and Kevin Peeters for other races.

The next signing is a big one for us as well. He's not Belgian, he's not Italian, but he was pretty much the top draft pick. The 22 year old Fernando Gaviria from Colombia is a very talented sprinter with great potential. It will take him a few years to develop, but then we have a world class sprinter on our hands.

After these two signings, we are looking for a couple more talents from a list of 6 names. It looks like it will be a bitter struggle with a few other teams, so it might take a while before we can announce the final names.

Wow gratz on getting Van Asbroeck and Gavriia. Gavriia will crush in no time. Van Asbroeck is really scary versatile. Frown

Last two signings

The last ones are always the hardest they say, and they were right! Blood, sweat, tears and way too much money, but we'r epleased to announce our last two signings, Gianni Moscon and Niccolo Bonifazio. Both are very talented riders from Italy, making our Italian sponsor happy. Gianni is a puncheur and Niccolo is another sprinter for the team. With that we have 20 riders, just enough for the Pro Continental Tour. A deeper team overview will follow later.

We are proud to announce our 2016 team roster. It's a huge change from last year, we know. We lost veteran Greg De Winde, he had 2 good years with us, but the step up to the Pro Continental Tour at his age was too much for him. Francis De Greef got the chance of a lifetime at Gazelle, we just couldn't refuse him a spot in the Pro Tour. Jens Debusschere had to take a year off after a disappointing development, we hope to see him back next year, stronger than ever. Edward Theuns and Lierse - Pizza Ullo just wasn't working, so we transfered him to Generali - AXA, where he can continue his career. Domagoj Breznik returned to Croatia to spend time with his dying father. Arthur Vanoverberghe wanted to try a career change, he's a car salesman now. Dial 015-ARTHUR for the best deal for your used car. Finaly Michele Viola said in an interview he didn't really like pizza, so we were forced to let him go. We would like to thanks all these riders for their hard work in out first two years, we won't forget what they did!

Of course, that meant we had to bring it at least 8 new riders. We wanted 2-4 team leaders to fight for our spot in the Pro Continental Tour, while we also wanted at least 5 talents for the team philosophy. We are happy to say we succeeded in both. Of our leaders, Kenneth Vanbilsen was our top pick for leadership on the cobbles, so we're glad to have signed him. Zico Waeytens will get leadership on the hills, an area we were seriously lacking in. Finaly Tom Van Asbroeck will be our main sprinter. In the talents section we have Fernando Gaviria as top pick. Other promising sprinters we signed are Niccolo Bonifazio and Jakub Mareczko. Gianni Moscon could become a great puncheur and Wout Van Aert will kick ass in the cyclocross season, while he'll also ride a few road races.

Of our riders, 40% is Belgian, 35% is Italian and 25% are from other countries. Our average age has gone down to exactly 25. Our sponsors are of course very happy with these statistics. We hope to announce our races and goals as well soon, but this is it for now, thanks for your attendance!

A Monument and a Grand Tour

While we can't give you our full calendar yet, we can give you the news that caused a few tears of joy in our HQ today. We hav ereceived wildcard to 2 great races. First of all, we will ride the Ronde van Vlaanderen in our first year in the Pro Continental Tour. The organisation recognised our Belgian focus and really wanted to give Vanbilsen a chance to shine. For a Belgian team, this is the biggest race possible, we hope to show ourselves.

Secondly, and this is world news, we also got a wildcard for the Giro d'Italia. Our Italian sponsor is extremely happy, as he can count on international coverage for 3 weeks. We may not have the best team for this, but we do hope for some breakaway success!

The first win

After some nice results on the cobbles, including two top 10 results in the Pro Tour, it was time for a good result in an absolute classic: Gent-Wevelgem. Why this race isn't in the Pro Tour is beyond me, but anyway, we wanted to control the race and succeeded, still 6 or our riders in this reduced pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Gent/mg2016_gent_PCM0038.jpg

And we kinda needed them, as Strava was attacking as usual, sending groups of 3 riders to the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Gent/mg2016_gent_PCM0047.jpg

After their last attack, we went for a team attack of our own with Vanbilsen, Van Asbroeck and Verhelst, Summerhill also following.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Gent/mg2016_gent_PCM0056.jpg

All of this resulted in an elite trio with Baugnies, Summerhill and Vanbilsen going into the final.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Gent/mg2016_gent_PCM0068.jpg

And the race would be decided in a sprint. Vanbilsen is the fastest, but was forced to go from the worst position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PCT/Gent/mg2016_gent_PCM0089.jpg

That doesn't stop him though, what a win for him and the team! It took us a while and all in all we didn't race much yet, but the season can really start for us now. We don't have to fear the rankings for a while now and can look forward to the coming races!

Gratz to the win, good race.

Please change Gaviria's flag from Argentinia to Colombia, Ian will get a heart attack if he thinks Gaviria is Argentinia and he missed out on him. Pfft

Giro d'Italia

It was time for our first Grand Tour, ever! A bit nervous we sent a squad without leaders, hoping for some breakaway results. The start of the race was for Jasper Stuyven, who often attacked and had the mountain jersey for a few days.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/GiroItalia/PCM0209.jpg

We left our best sprinter at home, but Pelucchi made the most of it, getting some top 10 results in a Pro Tour field. The guys did their best to help him as good as they could.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/GiroItalia/PCM0453.jpg

Then it was time for Daniele Dall'Oste. He attacked not once, not twice, not trice, not, well you see where I'm going with this, he just kept going, fighting for every mountain points he could get his eyes on.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/Races/PT/GiroItalia/PCM0544.jpg

And what a Giro it was for him. In his home country, in the country of our co-sponsor Pizza Ullo, he won the mountain classification with a landslide. Fantastic work, a bigger result than we could have dreamed!

Stayin' alive

After a great first half of the season, the second part wasn't as good (less cobbles!), so we dropped a bit in the rankings. And kept dropping unfortunately. Occasioanly was had a few wins to cheer us up again.
