The profile changed from hill to mountain in the most recent edition and it remained a "mountain" race with the long climb up to Coronet Peak. Hence a good amount of top climbers are here to fight for the GC win.
That said, it`s a 8-day stage race and only the one big climb. Bluff Hill is another chance for gaps but it`s just a very short 3km climb after a flat day.
And the time trials are very short and can maximum change small bits as it`s more a usual and a long prologue.
This means that half the stages are for the sprinters. So it`s a bit for every kind of rider and it might be interesting to see who is able to get the 2016 win in the Tour of Southland.

Nice race
A few guys to cheer for: Scully, Von Hoff, Clarke, Drapac, Gunman. Would be cool to see one former Ozzie snatching a stage.

Top 5 from Salinas, top 10 from Hirschlein, leader's jersey from Scully in his Xero debut and a stage somewhere. Please

This Compal start list remains me of ToME, which didn't go very well
Only chances are Hung or Park who is a little bit more experienced, I guess.
Thanks for the preciew! |

Anton with a chance to get back what he lost. I didn't expect Sella here, might be his race though. Krasnoperov looks superior, hopefully Anton uses his ACC to attack away from him on the climbing stage. Tennant really needs his first season victory here to prove me right that this was a better choice than Duo Differdange.
The preview looks great!

Martinez for the mountain stage and the time trials, hoping he is in the shape he was in at the beginning of ToME. Drapac should hopefully get a win. Also curious to see Griffith in his first race of the season.
Thanks for the preview roturn and good luck to all

Really a race for a jack of all trades, who can climb well hills, mountains and do a decent prologue. Doesn't need to be the best at any, just enough to not lose much time. Podium Ambition have good cards for this race I imagine. A win for Tennant is overdue, so hopefully this time around.

Looks like it's the national champion minijersey and not your teams.
I'm not really sure what to expect out of this but noticing a lack of Garby here makes me think Kung should take the youth jersey then.
@tsmoha, I think you missed Othman in your list of former Oz Riders to cheer on, and there's a chance that he might take the hilly stage if he's designated our leader for it.

Not a race I regret missing out on by not being in the race, there being races with more climbs for Garby and tougher sprints for Docker.
That being said I'm looking forward to seeing how some of my rivals do.

My only C2 race this season. I needed some racedays here to get Leung to Lvl3. Picked this race because of the prologue which should not only suit Leung but also Oba. Other than that stage I have zero expectations here. |

Just hoping that Krasnoperov will take out Coronet Peak, and that he'll manage to take home a top 5 for Spark. Time to proof everyone wrong about him being a gamble!

If we dont do well here, all these f****** gotta go
Seriously stage wins and top 3 GC is what we should be aiming for, heck, Tvetcov should bloody win (in my mind)

Tipping Tvetcov for this one, I feel like that while the TTs are surely not long enough for him to make up about 1 min solely thanks to them, the MTF isn't either to lose said minute to the likes of Sella and Anton.
As usual, great stuff roturn.

Hoping for some high finishes in the sprints here with Steele and a good ride in the TT with Flens. Looking forward to seeing how this race pans out...

Nice to get this one going, didn't expect anything from the stage as we are 1 season too early to dominate prologues and it's too short for Zoidl's liking.
Hopefully we can do something over the coming stages other than giving a couple of youngsters some experience.
