Indeed - really just Arndt, Bonifazio, Meersman, Bennati, Rojas and Felline? Heck even Farrar can do a podium in this field.
It's not the most sprinter-friendly route, even the 'flat' stages are quite hilly, (pcs actually only rates the final stage as flat and the rest as hilly ), so even if a pure sprinter had come they'd probably only get 2-3 opportunities and they would've had much more chances in the tour, although if one had come they'd probably do pretty well with such a weak field.

Gaviria is said to race Vuelta since start of year, so naturally he should race, although it's not confirmed by Etixx yet apparently?

Oh man, such a shame. He'd have annihilated the competition. What's the reason, to better prepare for the Worlds?

That's true but I thought that Olympic Omnium and Vuelta were his two big targets. Jet lag and travel make the first two days harder but a Grand Tour would have been a great test for him, especially since he'll focus more on the road now. Maybe it's too much for a 21 year old too, he has had his fair share of racing including some nasty crashes.

Hmm, looks like someone is in desperate need of a new avatar
EDIT But yes I think it's rather pointless for him to focus on Worlds when he can smash the Vuelta.

I could've removed the Zakarin avatar I just remembered lel
Yeah, Gaviria would be better coming to Vuelta and win 5-6 stages instead of going to the World's and not finish top 5. |

To be fair, there really aren't no completely flat stages apart from the 3rd week, altho stage 2 really should be categorised as flat.. |

No no cio is right, it's like pcs sees any single Hill longer than 100m in any part of the stage and it considers it hilly, it's the most broken system I've ever seen

Well I count six sprint opportunities and three in first week. Good chance for these nobodies to score a sprint or two. Fabio Catman is my pick he should be Feeline fine after small climbs.
GC will be interesting I like Lopez perhaps, Chavy lacks killer instinct for me like other Colombian ne'er attack man. Of course Bot - Sky will ride poo poo race for rusting Froome bot man which may be a bit of spoiler.
