I really was pulling for Abbott obviously but also has to be tough for Longo Borghini, she basically caught Abbott by herself.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

She seems pretty happy with bronze, if she looked around she might not have got any medal at all

Longo rode for her medal, which she achieved...if she didn´t pull she would´ve been 4th...

I'd even say that van der Breggen deserved it the least of the four, while Johansson and Abbott were the strongest at the climb and Longo Borghini pulled the most in the flat.
Just my opinion, maybe I overlooked a bit.

Its not a matter of who deserved it or not, the dutchies played the others fantastically with Van Vleuten on the attack which had allowed her to sit up for a while. Still she chased on the flat and certainly deserved a medal, she certainly didnt wheelsuck to the line...

agreed, van der Breggen spent most of the time at the front on the final 5 kms...

Happy for anna but emma would have been great too. Emma was lucky to get back on the climb, partly due to Anna not working. Gutted for Annemiek but is good that she is ok.. i feared the worst

Good to hear she's relatively allright. Terrible crash to watch!
Happy to see her teammate win after that one and great to see my second country with the second cycling-silver.

Interesting couple of races sadly tainted by the treacherous descent. I think it's disgusting that a course like that could be used with no attempt to warn riders of sharp corners or make any attempt to protect riders who did hit the concrete ditch/wall that seemed to run along most of the road. It appears to have been organised by someone with no experience of organising a cycling race.
One point I did think about. Why don't all the members of the winning team get a medal? Are there any other team events where only one person gets a medal? |

because there is no winning team, it's an individual sport. if it was a real team sport then there would team sport like actions such as mid race replacements

But you can't win a race without your team. Teams lead riders up mountains, they lead out sprinters, chase down breakaway's, collect drinks and pace riders back to the peloton if they crash.
I know only one rider wins, but the team gets them there. I know in normal circumstances of cycling only the individual gets credit, world champs for example, But this is the Olympics. It's a team event so the team should get medals. |

if you start giving medals to cyclist who helped getting the win for another rider within a team then you also need to give medals to cylist from other nations that helped that nation medals for getting them there (e.g HTC riders helping Cavendish). then why shouldn't the trainers and staff of the national teams also get medals because they helped riders getting ready, then why shouldn't the staff of normal teams get medals because they helped riders getting ready. it's an endless loop wihich can be traced back to gymnastics coach people had in grade school.
